CaptainWIMM,

Regardless of what you or I think, Rodgers is not playing at the same level, or anywhere near it, as he has over the last two years. That drive, determination, and dedication to working hard at making things happen just isn't there. I've played the game, coached, and been around it for so many years that I can see when things aren't clicking.

People are spending way too much time blaming others for what's happening out there, when it doesn't matter, because the show is closing. It's over. The Rodgers era has come to an end. Live with it.

It's not just him. It's also a lack of talent on the offensive line, and at WR. This is deadly. Add to it, a QB who knows the party's over, and guess what? It is over. We need to admit it, and get past the denial stage in this divorce. It's time.

Going all in on Rodgers. Going all in already meant we're going to be cap stressed when Rodgers leaves. There's nothing left to give. You don't send a guy with a roll of tape to a dam site to plug holes. All we have left with the cap is tape. Why make it worse for years, after Rodgers is gone? It's like throwing money away for nothing gained.

You mentioned as long as Rodgers is around? He's already left the building. I figure he did last January, and it became official, when Adams signed with the Raiders. Since then, Rodgers has been overly outspoken, and is now confronting fans who are holding him and the players accountable for their poor play.

I've been a Packer fan for over 70 years, and I've watched a long list of QBs come and go. Some bad, some good, some very good. But one thing I do know is that the day comes when each of them are replaced. In Rodgers case, it's time to let him walk away.

Well said Voyageur. It's shocking that the decline happened so fast and it is in stark contrast to the last three years. Should anyone be surprised? No. You detail what ails this team, and really this generation for the Packers. Moving on will be painful for a few years. So the sooner the better.

The question now is can the FO, the same FO that has thrived behind a generational QB, rebuild a new and ideally better team? This FO and HC are about to be tested as they've never been tested, as is the fans' patience.

This is something too many people gloss over. They will say "Hey, we had one of the best offenses in the league, no improvements needed." Well perhaps the Packers offense would have been just that much better had the Packers invested more in the WR's and TE's that Rodgers has had the last 5 or so seasons

Davante Adams has to be smiling a bit. Since he, MVS and Patrick are really the only thing missing from the last 2 seasons offense.

Yup....but I wouldn't call him a crucial piece of what is missing from the offense. I would actually say Turner was just an average right tackle at best, while in Green Bay. During his 3 years with the Packers, Turner allowed 116 pressures and 13 sacks and made it clear that pressures will always be there with Turner as he has consistently had a high rate. His run-blocking grades were between 60-65 each year.

In Turner's most recent season, where he played all but 56 of his 866 snaps at right tackle, he was average compared to the rest of the NFL. He was 19th-most (of 44 tackles) in pressures allowed with at least 500 pass-blocking snaps, had the 14th-lowest pass-blocking efficiency, and the 17th-lowest in PFF pass-blocking grade.

As for Turner's run blocking, among the 47 tackles with at least 300 run-blocking snaps, he was the 11th-lowest graded overall, the 10th-lowest grade in zone concepts, and 17th in gap concepts.

You described it perfectly. EXHAUSTED.
Amen. We watched with our own eyes Preston Smith huffing and puffing on the sideline (when he finally got a breather!) our last contest when they were on the field for 38 minutes. No one needs to convince me that he was fresh and sparky or that T.O.P. is not an issue.

It’s a major issue keeping your D out there all day. It’s not a coincidence that teams are Running at us hard in the second half of games. We look tired and if we see it? They see it

Our Offense We had 47 snaps!! 47! Let that sink in for a minute. That should be 70 area when we are 2:1 Passing the ball.

It’s not working, don’t keep forcing the exact same thing. Use your veterans more.

I completely understand this sentiment. It just might time, if we are statistically eliminated or get to like 3-7 to 4-8 area.

However you know as a Coach that you exhaust all options before giving up. We’ve been 5-5 and made the playoffs recently, 4-6 and made playoffs. The rest of the NFC also has problems.

If our Defense was also bad? I’d admit defeat. However while our D may not be that top 5 unit from paper. They can be a respectable too 8 IF our Offense starts clicking. That’s a big IF. Just go get a WR we’ll need one anyway next year. Who are we relying on in 2023? Cobb? Lazard? That’s a shaky proposition!

That puts us at 5-5 with 7 games left. That’s a ton of time to pull out a 10-7 type season and sneak in on a Wild Card with momentum. We can’t give up too early and that is all the motivation this QB needs, he feeds on proving others wrong. Haven’t you noticed? #6 seed wins SB, Run the Table, RELAX, what’s the common denominator? A QB who plays better when nobody thinks he can win. Do we remember the second half of the Bears in game 1 of our season where #12 broke his knee? He feeds on adversity he almost welcomed being an underdog

It's not a question of giving up. You don't do that. You continue to play hard. But, you don't go out on a limb for years into the future, to grab someone who will only help you some, to do a little bit better this year, and be gone next year. That's both cap money, and draft picks that needs to be conserved.

The Packers problems go far beyond getting a WR. They lack depth, because of cap restraints, and they have two major factors on our offensive line seriously hobbled, and playing sporadically, and often, at level below their capability, because of injuries. The line is in constant turmoil as to who is playing, and where. No consistency.

How would a WR help? It would take someone at least two or three weeks to even have a clue as to how to fit into the system. They don't practice football like they did in the old days, by running plays with pads. They play ring around the rosy, and "walk through" practice, which is like teaching dance steps, but until they play the music, you are just going through the motions, and rest assured, when the music starts, all those walk through sessions mean nearly nothing.

It's time to continue trying to win, but looking ahead beyond 2023. It's time to think about how they can start retooling, to return them to the top. Be it with Love, or someone else through the draft, or a trade for a promising younger guy, I don't know. But I do know the end of the Rodgers era is here.

Obviously I didn’t see who suggested this choosing a player that would cause historic cap concerns for years to come.
That says there are options at WR that are under contract past ‘22. There are even options on their Rookie deals, so $$ on those players doesn’t prohibit us from acquiring them. It might take significant draft Capital such as a 2nd Rounder.

I promise you if you put a DJ Moore. Jeudy or even Claypool in a game and reduce our weakest link it changes a lot.

While we do have ? On OL (like just about everyone else) conceivably the OL gets more continuity as the season progresses. How many Sacks did we take against a very good Washington front 4? All I heard all week is how we would get dominated upfront and it really wasn’t nearly that bad. WTF played the Run excellent, but we all knew that was probably going to be the case.

0 sacks

and that was without #69. We must be looking to shore up our weakest link. WR or OL

Agreed. and to Voyageur's point about the end of the Rodgers' era, it's also the end of the Bakhtiari era. I hate to say it, but the ACL tear and 3 surgeries have pretty much put him out to pasture. Who knows what went wrong? It may be as simple as a torn meniscus. A pro athlete, especially the guys over 300 lbs, can't play with a partial meniscus. My guess is that some parts of his knee are bone on bone. That hurts like hell, trust me.

It Sucks. We’ll do good to have Bak as a reserve LT for 2022.
After that he needs to retire

I guess what they try to do with old fogies like us is inject that gel now to act as a cushion so we can get up and down stairs. But the pounding of professional sports is so much different.

This is why large contracts for quality players on roster, and free agents, are like playing Russian roulette. Take a look at the cap hits we still have, with Rodgers. Bringing anyone in could just extend the pain, and that's not good judgement. They gave Rodgers way too much in concessions, and now it's going to hurt, big time. There's absolutely no room for more hurt.

Here's Bakhtiari's cap figures. Add his with Rodgers, and you see why we need to think about essentially a total rebuild, without dipping into the expensive free agent pool. It's going to have to be done using wise draft decisions. If we see a couple of 3 or 4 win seasons, so be it, the draft capital could make a difference down the road. Add to it the fact that Love is going to be at the end of his contract, and it becomes another issue all together.

It would be nice to have an average NFL right tackle this year.

Some believe that short offense t.o.p. shouldnt hurt the def

People should just watch his throws to the rb, or 5 yard throws.. Low, high, to long etc.

He still has the ability for throws like to Jones for the TD last week.. But to me, he is having accuracy issues with easy throws

I don't agree Rodgers is done by any means. He's seven games removed from being a two time consecutive MVP.

The front office has failed him by surrounding him with a terrible wide receiving corps, topped by a lack of talent at tight end.

Why do you ignore that the game against the Commanders was the first one in which the Packers' defense played more snaps than the offense?

Bodda Book. Bodda Boom! HE gets it, Captain!

The defense was on the field too much against the Commanders. They haven't been in any other game this season though.

Since he likely won't be here 25/26; what will that do to the chart?

If the Packers move on from Rodgers after this season there won't be any money counting against their cap starting in 2024.

If that happens after the 2024 season the team will take a cap hit of $76.8 million of dead money counting against their cap.

The cap situation can be solved within a single season.

I notice.

Time of possession is terrible metric to evalute how much a defense is actually on the field. Especially for a team struggling throwing the ball.

I totally agree. Take the single season hit, and move on, when it comes to the cap. But, you aren't going to reassemble a Super Bowl contender until you restock the shelves. Having money, is one thing, but there's never enough to just automatically buy all you need to win immediately. the NFL is not the Yankees of the 40s and 50s.
