As many of us sense it, let's discuss it. We are not going after a top flight guy, arguably not a Tier 2 but young guy either. But I 100% feel we will be a player in Free Agency at the interior DL position, and perhaps especially for run specific type guys.

Granted while I feel we may wait till after the draft...someone may come our way there...a few quick names I feel could realistically be looked at locker room to help Clark in the trenches are:

  • Snacks Harrison (Age:31) ...For years snacks was one of the better NT in the league. Regression hit as injuries did last year. Is he done...or does he still have a healthy and worthy year or two in him? Defenitely a guy worth looking at for the role discussed.
  • Michael Pierce (Age:27) ...His age and potential may make him just not be there for us given bigger spending needed elsewhere, but is ankle injury and a down year could assist us making a play. A true NT, his role would be to plug and stop run. He offers a longer future, but I'd argue the same level production as Snacks (if healthy).
  • Domata Peko (Age:35) ...am I a huge fan of him at this point...no, but the dude has been a testament to consistency having played 16 games all but 3 of his seasons in his career. For just purely plugging the middle he could still serve a purpose and worth a one year.
  • Al Woods (Age: 33) ...of the over 30 guys I saw his games more being a Colt for two years and then last year with the Seahawks. He would serve how we need him to and appears to for a trench warrior have above average health typically.
  • Tyeler Davison (Age:27) ...Tyeler is a guy that shocked me didn't get a better contract after his rookie deal expired in 2018. The Saints let him walk, and the Falcons got him for sub-$1Million. With the way he performed in ATL on the one year deal...I am unsure just what it would take to grab him...but he has my eye.

Plenty of others....just a few quick ones.

Peko is a good reliable veteran player. I like Danny Shelton & A'Shawn Robinson. I'm really dissapointed in Montravius Adams (2017 DT drafted was a sh*tshow). I think packers will probably draft one. I liked Mike Pennel as NT clogging up the lanes but we left him go.

Pennell is a Free Agent and for the role we need I could see that discussion occurring, and nearly added him to my list.

To be honest I didnt include jefferson as I wanted to stay or attempt to stay in realistic price range options. We aren't spending that much

I am as well, but didnt include because I fear his cost.

Yeah it's hard to know where he will land in that regard. He is a young player and a former 2nd round pick. But he's a run defense specialist coming off of a down year. I could see him being cheap.

Linval Joseph is going to be released by the Vikings. Not sure how he would fit here but he is a solid player

Joseph, Michael Pierce, Snacks Harrison, should all be looked at. Pierce probably being the favorite bc of his age, but all 3 are good and would help.

Snacks has been on my radar for a long time. I concur Pierce offers the most and longest, but that could price him out of our team.

I like Allen coming out of the draft. I think I mocked him in some of my drafts. Of course WI bias ;) but I really liked what I saw from him on tape. Glad he's turned out to be a solid player. Id like him for our team.

Jags just dealt Calais Campbell to the Ravens for a 5th....damn why can't we get in on this action? I think Campbell is like 32-33 and to my knowledge his health has been excellent.

Is there anyone taller than him in the NFL at 6"8? That's alotta body to plug up the run.

Bc they're going to sign Calais to an extension, and we ain't got that kind of money.

He's due $15 million for this season. We just can't swing it.

He'll be 34 right around the start of the season.

Why are the Packers not in on this action? Start with Campbell's $15 mil base salary. That's going aginst the Raven's $3 mil in cap space. It might be worth looking at who they will cut to make room for that. Regardless, it looks like they're going all-in while their QB is on his cheap rookie contract.

I'm not going to conjecture whether the Ravens could or should tack some years on and push the cap hit out. Regardless, starting at the $15 mil base line, that's a tough pill to swallow.

Campbell has been a favorite player of mine for years, underrated until he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2017. He surely has gas still in the tank. But he would have been entirely unaffordable in the Packer scheme of things. Under the topic of "Realistic DL Free Agent Discussion" trading for Campbell wouldn't qualify.

That makes it even more of an enigma why Jax traded him, without knowing their cap situation....if they dump Foles, they should have had some cash to pay Campbell and make a small move in FA. As a Jacksonville guy myself, he was beloved greatly by the city, both on and off the field. They're going to be picketing all week for this one.

Dumping Foles would cost them almost 12M in cap space. It would be a negative cap move.

They are rebuilding. Teams generally don't rebuild around 34 year old players except for a franchise QB. Knowing they are not swimming in cap space futher supports the rationale. I would not rule the decision being mutual. Campbell goes to a top contender. In the end, it is a business.

As for those picketing fans, if there are any, forgiving and forgetting for the vast majority comes with winning if Jacksonville can manage it in the not to distant future. As it stands now, they can't even fill their stadium.

Lots and lots of talented iDL options still out there.

Shelby Harris, Gerald McCoy, Linval Joseph, A'Shawn Robinson, Maliek Collins are some of my preferred targets.

Michael Pierce, Jarran Reed, Ndamukong Suh, Damon Harrison, Andrew Billings, Derek Wolfe, Danny Shelton, Quinton Jefferson, Nick Williams also on the market.
