I was having a debate with buddies about who will win the SB this year. I always pick the teams with the best QB so I’m saying Mahomes, Allen, or Lamar will get the win this year. A lot of them said you don’t need an all time great at QB to win it all so I looked it up.

Counting Rodgers, Brees, Mahomes, and Brady as HOFers, 40 of 58 Super Bowls have been won by Hall of Fame QB’s.

The only other two time SB winning QB not to make it to the Hall of Fame is Jim Plunkett. If Eli Manning and Big Ben get in, that‘s 44 out of 58 Super Bowls, or 76%. We will continue to see outliers I’m sure but that’s a bigger percentage than I expected.

Some also think Russell Wilson will get in which pushed the percentage of Super Bowls lead by HOF quarterbacks to 77.6%. That’s a pretty strong argument that you need a truly great QB to win it all.

Some damn good ones, at least in the years they won, are Plunkett and Phil Simms.

The Brad Johnson’s and others like him are outliers.

Funny stuff. We are truly like a Gouda aged Cheese in here. :coffee:

Just going back doing some film review. The first matchup in Brazil was really hard to judge lots of slippage.

First half. A couple notes:
-we scored a TD on the first drive that was erased. 12 men on the field 1 player from each team hadn’t touched the chalk. Erased a beauty TD throw by Love. Then a flag put us out if FG range and we punted. O points

-Alexander oft played 6-12 yards off. He had just 1 PD might’ve been more a drop imo. but 2 more he whiffed on a tackle big gainer and just got handled a bit by AJ Brown. Played D+ C- grade mire lip than actual action. Couldn’t play much worse that Week1 Alexander. AJ made him a bottom 5 Defensive grade.

-on D we handled our Run lanes pretty good. Walker got caught out of position a couple times (possible footing) and so did McDuffie trying to stay with Barkley on a TD pass. I think Walker played good as far as aggressive but didn’t have a very good game. Hit wrong holes etc. Cooper playing more will 100% help. I think this is a big deal having Cooper playing more.

-Evan Williams. He’s an underrated Rookie Safety that’ll give us a C+B- floor and plays physical, plus good ball tracking instincts. He didn’t start last contest. This is a guy that if he recovered 100% could really influence this game.

-Watson did play but was largely ineffective. Missed on a Love TD underthrow in the paint when we sent him against their rookie. Love puts more on that it’s 7 points imo. I just don’t think he affected the game at some high level. It’s not like AJ Brown here.

-Wicks. Boy he was not good at all skipping and dropped 2 really crucial 1st down pssses. I’d given him a 44.3 grade first half. Wicks actually hurt us because he’s a very good route tree guy but HAS to finish better. I thought Wicks missed the easy part. Catch it! We obviously think highly of him he’s out there 75% of the time.

TJ was blowing up their LOS. actually our D front was playing good and I think better than their O front. We rushed but had to stay in our lanes because of Hurts. It worked we had him throwing it away or running short gains etc.

-Reed was lightning in a bottle. I’d get him that ball simulator. He plays fast.

-Kraft needs more opportunity. He’s a very good TE. Get these TE’s some medium-short passes.

-Musgrave was underutilized. 2 targets 1 was an impossible high throw
0 yards. 17 snaps won’t cut it. Get him 25+ snaps and get him going on a few crossers.

-After rewatching both Halves of San Paolo I’m watching Brenton Cox Jr. If he comes off injury he’s been playing on fire recently. I think he could really help for Pass Rush

-Stokes missed a key tackle for a short very short gainer instead it was like a +15 play. Overall seemed to not give Hurts any leverage though.

-Nixon had good coverage and made a great TFL on Hurts. Savvy player. Plays with intensity.

Narvy misses a crucial 43 yarder. Changed the scope of the finish needing a FG.

-Alexander gets burned again 3rd Qtr. But redeems himself with a INT in the paint. He generally played better in 2nd half.

-offered TWO critical 1st downs to Philly on their scoring Drive by penalty.

With Watson clearly out, I believe there will be a lot more sets with two TEs.

Another shorter note. I’m watching Brenton Cox Jr. If he comes off injury he’s been playing on fire recently. Might even be an upgrade off Preston Smith. Smith was quiet but did show good lane integrity and pursued Hurts out of the Pocket some. If we get Walker, Williams and Cox Jr this is impactful imo. I think it could erase Preston Smith and J’aire being out.

Stokes missed a key tackle for a short very short gainer instead it was like a +15 play. Overall seemed to not give Hurts any leverage though.

I think Valentine has really come along. IMO he’s not much of a downgrade from how Alexander played if any. I just like Valentine is a better tackler and above average in coverage

Nixon had good coverage and made a great TFL on Hurts. Savvy player. Plays with intensity.
I totally understand why they kept Cox around. He's developing nicely. He may be one of the steals of 2023. A free agent who's making his mark. They might be looking at inking a decent contract with him this off season, seeing what he seems to offer.

After a rewatch. I see 2 Teams that battled in San Paolo. The final Love INT near our Redzone was the tide changer. Yet this game was STILL in reach. Can’t he handing a good team a free INT on our 20 yard line. These teams are actually very equal. I suppose homefield is more the advantage. Yet if we play cleaner and don’t drop 5 passes, we can 100% give Philly problems. I feel very comfortable that we match up good overall. GB could’ve Won that first game we played pretty sloppy in general. Yet with some nice big gainers sprinkled in.

This one will come down to execution and discipline. Plus whoever brings the best counter strategy. I think Hafley should go after Hurts a little more. He alluded to doing that in a recent press conference. I think he’s going to take more chances getting to Hurts. I understand he has legs. But Id knock him around a little more and let him take some hits earlier if that’s what he desires. I can’t count the number of times the announcer said “Hurts has ALL day” while we just hop in our run lanes.
