I would guess if those 28 other teams had HOF qbs for almost 30 straight years, most...if not all...would have more than 3 Super Bowl appearances.

I think your argument is a little short-sided. Great QB play absolutely helps more than it hurts in playoff football. But it's more to it than HOF QB + GOOD ROSTER = SB.

Besides Brady, how many HOF QBs recently have been able to get back to win another SB?? Peyton Manning had to leave Indy to captute his second Lombardi and he did no heavy lifting to get it done. Brees couldn't get it done with the Saints. It isn't just a Rodgers/GB issue.

Championship football comes down to coaching and match-ups imo.

I wasn't the biggest McCarthy fan. As an outsider, I always felt he leaned on the Rodgers magic a little too much. I saw him oversee some very talented teams that didn't play up to their talent level, far too often. I also thought he rode with Capers far too long and that led to a few playoff exits as the defense didn't hold up their end of the bargain. So this is not soley on the FO.

Rodgers is irritated and I get it. He's lost his second straight NFCCG...and as a #1 seed no less. But once he takes some time and looks at it objectively, I think he sees there's no better place for him than GB. Besides maybe Linsley, you dont lose much from a MVP offense next year. Jones might sting a little but RBs are a replaceable commoditiy in today's game unless you're a Saquan or a Derrick Henry. Jones's skillset can be replicated in your offense by a cheaper alternative imo.

TB was just a bad match-up for your offense. You give your FO a chance to maybe retool some of the defensive personnel. Get rid of Pettine and dump some draft resources at getting faster, more athletic LB as well as shore up your interior D-Line and you D is should be able to cause more havoc to QBs like Brady. MLF needs to learn and evolve. Use how Bowles was able to bottle up some of his offensive concepts and finds counters. He also needs to be a little more aggressive and assertive with his offense in certain instances. But he is a young coach who is just getting started. His time will come.

But it nowhere near as doom and gloom as some of you want to paint it. You all will once again be SB favorites next year in the NFC. There are ALOT of fanbases that would literally die to be where you all are for just a couple of seasons. Chasing that trophy can definitely grind on a fanbase...I know. We've been chasing #6 for 26 years and counting. We went from being 4-0 in the SBs to being 0-2 in our last two tries. You think it sucks losing in the conference championship?? Try losing your last two SB apparences in gut-wretching fashion. Its all a part of the game though.

Anyone wanna take a look at what the Packers SHOULD be? The 49ers between Montana and Young is a perfect match for what this franchise should have done. Honestly I'd argue we should be better than them. Alot of fans are blinded by the "look at other franchises tho! We're lucky!" When in reality we have massively underachieved and it's because exactly what OP pointed out

I've stated that exact thing, Packers are exactly where they wanna be. Being a top 8 team in the NFL without going all in. They'd rather go to the playoffs 7 years in a row than go all in to win a SB. Packers are a BUSINESS. And being good enough to sell out the stadium and sell jerseys is the goal. You do that by putting consistent winners out there.... but your also sacrificing by never going all in for a 2-4yr run

Draft and replace is a model for cheap teams, which we are

Super cheap. Which is why we have hardly any cap space left.

A DB to replace King could've made all the difference. As bad as King has played, even a db in the 3rd round would've been an upgrade. How about a DT that can push the pocket a little. That would've helped. You can't have it both ways. Either you try to max out your chances over the last few years of AR, or you look to the future and draft a qb that may sit for 3 seasons.

not to mention there was NO salary cap in the early 90s when Young took over for Montana. A little different, but don't tell him that probably doesn't matter.

I think of it as there was the chance to win..players were put in position.

Now, was it because the coaches werent successful in putting them in the right spot??
I think it was a 50-50split coaches not responding or adjusting to the game situation and players failing to execute the plan(s)

Correct on Payton..

Since 2010 Pittsburgh has only been to the afccg once.

How many times has Rivers been to the afccg?

Manning wasn't particular good in either Super Bowl appearance.

MM started out well but eventually he let the offense devolve into a highlight reel run n shoot offense that tended to stall against great defenses. Rodgers was a part of that problem and only this last year committed to a more prudent and intelligent approach, one that makes defenses defend the entire field, and slow down the pass rush, instead of just stuff 20+ yards down the field.

I actually think that Dillon is a better fit for what MLF wants to do long term with his offense. Force teams to spread out and play with lighter packages and then run over them with a fast 250 pound bull of a running back. In fact I think failing to try Dillon out against TB in the 1st and 2nd quarter was a factor in our loss. In limited carries he was our most effective back in two games against TB. It's a simple matchup really, those lightning fast backers are the soul of that defense. Well maybe they aren't built deal with someone who has 15 pounds of good weight on them, speed balance and cutting ability. See that play where Dillon basically carried a DB on his back for 6 yards.

I believe only once. Not sure of the year.....maybe 2008??
So we have great qb, maybe even hof material...that had talent...and you know who pitts had on Def and off..

Yet only one afccg apperance and loss since they were in the SB in 2010

People that feel being to 4 of them is no better than not going?

The front office is responsible for the players on the roster. Therefore they share some blame for the defense struggling as well.

Do you believe the "front office" would cram a draft pick down the throat of the head coach IF the Head Coach said no?

Now .. Gute falls under the Wolf tree and both he and Thompson are on record of drafting the best player on the board, which, right or wrong, would explain Gute's pick of Love ... and as for Mike Sherman... well who knows ... but, seriously, if the Head Coach and DC said hey, King stinks ... the FO would ignore it?

I do think its more BVA, not to split hairs. Basically grab the best player where it adds the most value to the franchise. Yes Love fits there as part of a long term plan to replace and transition to life after Rodgers. If he predictably fails they have time to draft Rodgers replacement in a couple of years. It's like playing Russian Roulette, by picking Love now his odds of success are improved and if he doesnt work out they still have time for options 2 and 3.

Gute might grab a player like TT did with Nelson even if its at an area of strength like a safety, an OLB or a guard.

I think the head coach has an input into draft selections but ultimately it's Gutekunst's decision to make.

The first round pick could have been a CB or a OL or a WR and any one of those could have made a impact maybe if we'd drafted Jaylon Johnson he's out there playing well locking down one of their WR's and they aren't converting almost every 3rd down in the 1st half, or maybe they at least don't complete the hail mary at the end of the half.

Maybe if we drafted a OT we'd have been able keep Rodgers clean a lot better.

If we had drafted a WR perhaps he makes a few of the catches that were dropped by ESB and Lazard.

There is no way you can say conclusively that a playmaker at any of those positions wouldn't have given us a better shot of winning what ended as a 1 score game.

Besides, while I want Love to be given a chance and hope he does well, the odds aren't on his side, so ... this organization had better be careful about thinking Love is going to bring another 10 plus years of this kind of success.

That's the thing as a packer fan the best case scenario is that the Packers win a superbowl with Rodgers in the next 2 seasons. Then trade him prior to 2023 because love has been so Rodgers like in practice running the scout team against the number 1 defense... that they can't keep him off the field any longer.

That's also the best case for the front office... imagine Rodgers continues his mvp level play but love has developed so well by the conclusion of the 2022-23 superbowl that gute can trade Rodgers for significant draft capital while installing his guy at qb with minimal drop off at the games most important position for 2023 . Of course theyred be growing pains just as there were in Rodgers first year as a starter but if love

For this reason it's imperative that the front office go all in over the next few seasons obtaining talent. As it 1. Provides the highest likely hood Rodgers will continue his mvp level play and win a superbowl and it ensures jordan love will have top talent surrounding him when he gets his shot in 2023 or 2024

The picks he struck out on were Josh Jackson, Jimon Moore, ESB, DeGuara, Stepaniak, and ... fill in the blank.

Josh Jackson and Moore appear to be busts but ESB is a 6th round pick. When you are taking guys that late most of the time they are late round picks for a reason. DeGuara and Stepaniak haven't played so it is rather premature to label them busts until you actually see them in action.

If they even considered drafting a qb with a conditional 7th round pick they are stupid lol

It will depend upon if they think a QB still on their boards is the BPA at that late point in the draft. Most of the time late picks like this don't make the final roster and end up on the PS. Sometimes an UDFA QB might turn out to be a player like Taysom Hill did.

He wasn’t an option for us.

Higgins or Pittman woulda been swell. Would have been nice to force the Bucs to either take one of their elite ILBs off the field or have them cover a receiver. Point is that Love did not, and was never, going to help the team this year. The FO decided that was their best bet, to not help this year because they thought the trade off was that Love would be an elite NFL talent. Maybe you agree with them, but the FO absolutely decided that Love was more important than helping the team THIS year, or next, with that first round pick.

I loved Pittman. Don’t think either of those guys forces Tampa to take one of their backers off the field.

Excellent! Then one of them is covering Lazard or Adams out of the slot then? Either way, that would have allowed the Packers' offense to mess with the Tampa defense a lot more than they seemed capable of Sunday.

The FO was drafting for the future, not unlike TT did in 2005. We had one of the best offenses in the league this year without drafting one of the young WRs in that class. The offense wasn't great against Tampa but that loss was a team wide effort. In the end Tampa, as a team, out played our Packers on O, D and ST and that is why they are in the SB this year and we are not.

Its like pouding sand? Or banging head into wall.

The anti love people (thats a wierd thing to lable them?) will never agree the offense had a partial blame in any loss.

There is a lot to parse there. First of all... I was not nor am I now happy that love was drafted. However, I am not anti Love. Now that he is a Packer, I hope that he turns out to be great. As far as the loss in the championship game... I think placing blame on the offense or defense.... is a bit pointless. There were definitely things that occurred on both offense and defense that could have made a difference in the outcome. Redmond catching what should have been a sure interception, King not simply defending the end zone on the TD before the half, Pettine deciding that of all times was the time to abandon his patented prevent defense. Aaron Jones putting the ball on the ground on their own 8 yard line. The offense failing to score points after Alexander’s picks.... The refs, deciding to ignore defensive holding and PI throughout the whole game including one that would have negated a Rodgers interception... only to call it at the end of the game ensuring that the game was over, when it appeared that the Packers would have a final chance to win the game. I’m sure I missed a few things.... but the point is... there is no one event or part of the team that deserves the sole blame for this loss. Frankly, while I am immensely disappointed that the Packers missed the opportunity to play in this year’s Super Bowl, i am actually somewhat mollified by the fact that this year... they definitely deserved to be playing in that game, and unlike last year, if any of the above scenarios I listed above had played out differently, they very likely would have won.
