you can't compare contracts with TE and WR. You have to admit that you can't make that call until you see who we draft. I get you are talking about the dollars and cap. All i am saying is wait to see who else we get. I love this time of year.
This is the time of year where it actually is all about the cap. Releasing guys who are eating up too much of it and signing guys that your team needs and fit within the cap restraints.

Jordy was 12.55 this year.

so if it's 10, already saved 2.55

Right, but some of that was dead cap and still is owed against the cap. Sport Trac already took down his numbers, but I think it is in the $10.5 M range the Packers will save.

Ahhh yes. some was for roster bonus.

I still don't see Jimmy getting Jordy's pay

Why is this a Jimmy for Jordy trade discussion? They don't play the same position and FA is just starting. Why don't we wait until July/Aug to see the pieces?

I think they were just talking about cap numbers and not Jimmy to replace Jordy on the field.

Yes i am well aware of that. I am just saying we have to see what WR we get and the contracts before we can say it was Jordy money for Jimmy. It is all a pool and moving around. We are better at TE right now, Jordy was a fan fave but probably time is up. I hope we keep Cobb at least but i know that is a ton of money for a #3.

Does anyone find it odd that the details of Graham’s contract has not been released?

The best FA TE for sure. But that isn't saying much. Not sure where he is at currently as a player. I'm sure AR will be able to get him the ball a few times. Should be, at the very least, a nice option in the red zone.

Hey. First time poster here. Been on packerchatters for years but it closed down.

Anyway, I am not a fan of this move on a number of levels.

1) Jordy Nelson is one of my favorite packers and pretty easy to root for.
2) Jimmy Graham is 32 years old
3) It’s a pretty good draft for tight ends. I particularly like Mike Gesicki in the 2nd or 3rd round.
4) Coun5s against the compensatory formula, as Nelson was released but Graham is a FA

All the same I will root for Graham. Hope he proves me wrong.

Given how deep the rookie TE class is, I really dislike this move. Look, I get the Jordy thing. He’s 33, and 13 million against the cap with only 2.8 in dead money vs. a younger 27 year old Cobb who is owed 13 million and would be almost 4 million in dead cap. From a business perspective, it was the right decision. We knew we would likely lose either Cobb or Nelson. Somber day though in GB for losing one of the greatest receivers to play for this organization.

I cannot speak to the contract we gave Graham because those details have not emerged aside from it being 3 years, but I am going to guess it’s a 3 year 25 million with 12 garenteed (or in that wheelhouse). I get that Graham led the league for TE in TD last year, but he was also on a team that lacked any other real red zone target.

On the bright side, we get a giant of a man on the offense for Rodgers to feed. And the off-season is not over. Many more moves may come that may make up for this uneasy day.

I was one who hoped that the Packers would sign McEvoy. The Seahawks signed him as an UDFA in 2016 and he is still there. While he has "only" caught 14 passes, they have been for 253 yards (18.1 Ave.) and 2 TD's. He contributes on ST's and I think would be considered a quality UDFA after 2 years.

McEvoy really had quite the interesting career at UW. He played three different positions - QB, WR and Safety - all with pretty good success. He got pushed aside in the quarterback battle in favor of Joel Stave, but just played wherever he could contribute.

Guys. Stop talking about rookie TE's.

1) We'll still probably draft one.

2) Rookie TE's rarely make an impact in year one.

3) This rookie TE class has depth, but not a lot of top end talent. They are almost all raw and need to be developed.

There are certainly reasons to not like this deal, but the rookie class isn't one of them. We needed a TE1. We got one.

3 years

But in Seattle it was 4 yrs and 40 mill
I knew it was 3 years but I feel like this is the only contract that the price tag has been leaked. In an earlier post I estimated 3 years 25 million with 10-12 garenteed, but we really have no idea still. I just find it interesting.

I love the deal and advocated for it. Now get Courtland Sutton and were set.

Well on the bright side I dont think Jimmy Graham will have character issues our last TE had.

How often do rookie tight ends come in and make a real impact? The window on our qb is closing, this is a win now move. We can still draft a tight end and let him develop, but the odds of drafting a pro bowl TE are SLIM.

Graham won't be 32 until November and as much as I like this years crop of TE's in the draft, finding one that could make an immediate impact would have been difficult and we needed an immediate impact TE, Graham is all that.

I think Graham is much better than Cook was and even better than Bennett. IMO the only downside to this may be his salary. I think he will be very productive for us. He could be a top 5 TE if he is used properly. Of course I thought that about Bennett and even Cook so what do I know. I still think Graham is better. Maybe not what he once was but better.

I thought Mo was an upgrade over Cook. Lets hope we reverse this trend of signing a TE every damn year and Graham is an upgrade over both of them! I do like the thought of Graham and the way AR will use his height. I can only imagine the fits the offense could give defenses if 6' 6" WR Michael Clark can some how play well enough to get into the lineup.

I'm going to miss Jordy a lot because he like Driver epitomized the GB Receiving core, but I have to admit Graham's size and leaping ability combined with that of Devante Adams and not to forget Michael Clark who is also 6'6" will make for a very interesting passing offense

Graham was not my TE of choice, but to those pointing at the draft class, it needs to be considered that TE is a notoriously hard position to get quality rookie play at.

Lots of big targets this year. Don't forget Gmo either, another big target
