You might be surprised. But then again with some of the clown GMs in this league, look at what KC gave Watkins.
Seattle, Niners and ravens already have been knocking..

I don't think you truly believe Jordy will be a fa till May.

Rodgers on Jordy being released:

"Hard to find the right words today to express what 87 means to me. No teammate exemplified what it means to be a packer quite like him. From living in GB full time, his incredible contributions to the city, state, and region, to his consistent, reliable play on the field. Definitely a sad day and the toughest part of this business. There will never be another quite like white lightning. #leader#brother #friend #baller #loyal #champion#legacy #intact #stillcanplayball#backshoulder #1stSBTD"

Hardest thing to do is say goodbye to the players you love and had fond memories of.....but the game must move forward. He's a Packer legend and will always remain a legend, but there's always an end to every great story.

It was the same feeling when Favre left and it's gonna be the same feeling the day Rodgers says goodbye. No player is ever bigger than the team and the time to move on from Jordy both financially and professionally was upon us. Not many times do good things continue to happen when a player at a skilled position like Jordy's hits 33 years old with a history of injuries and declining production. Unfortunately it was time....

In his interview he was tearing up when talking about Jordy playing through his injury after the Atlanta playoff game last year.

Will always love Jordy. He did everything the right way, and will be remembered as an all-time great Packer.

Sorry it had to end this way, but these things happen. He's getting to be washed up.

Sure, Nelson will be a Packer Hall of Famer.

That said, this is the right move. Putting a chunk of that cap savings toward Wilkerson instead of a CB? No, not a good idea.

Graham? It comes down to cost because this is a player who is not what he once was. If he is signed, Cobb may get his own take-it-or-leave-it low ball offer followed by his departure.

So knife cuts both ways... looks like Jordy could have stayed but he wanted the $$$ .... I don’t blame him one little bit.... smart smart move... but maybe some of the wailing and gnashing of teeth as to HOW we could have done this to an icon like Jordy should subside. If he makes a couple mil extra ... it’ll come in handy down the road!!

Dang! What a bummer. I was hoping that if one of them had to go then hoping it would be Cobb.

Jordy has been one of my favorite packers.

Jordy, you will be missed. For your impressive team player attitude, your hard work and what you did to be comeback player of the year. I have always been impressed with your humility. I wish you and your family all the best.

If the Packers first approached Jordy about a pay cut today, really bad timing on their part and then to ask him to play for Vet minimum? Seriously, $1.1M? Considering some of the numbers coming out that other FA WR's are getting paid, Jordy would have been crazy to play for that. I think I would actually be insulted if I was Jordy. Actually, if that was all they offered Jordy, I'm a bit insulted as a fan.

The Packers WR corp is very thin now IMO. Adams, Cobb, Allison and whoever.....not even a legit #3. Will be interesting to see how Gute and the Packers fill the hole left by cutting Jordy, but I don't think $1.1M is going to do it.

Life isn’t all about winning and neither is sports. It’s also about how you got there when you do win. It’s more about the memories and relationships.
Nobody sais on their deathbeds.. “bring me my trophies and medals!” They just want their family and friends to be around them and they’d trade that for 10 Lombardi’s trophies.

It’s ok to be a fan that missed a great player like Jordy when they leave. That is nothing to be ashamed about. Conversely if anything it shows in times like these that we care, many fans are not just about the trophies, the hype and the bragging Rights.

So you are saying Vince was wrong:eek::eek:. I got the tar everybody...someone grab some feathers and a rail and we will run this guy outta here.

While it's an intriguing idea the Packers risk Nelson being offered more money by another team and moving on though.
And so it goes. If the Graham rumor is true, he'll replace Nelson's possession targets. An upgrade, but not a game changer.

Seriously. He's worth more than that. Take his dead cap space and offer him something like $4M (which is still lower than I thought they tried to offer him). $1.1M is kind of a slap in the face. He was leading the team in TD's until they guy with a left foot for an arm came in.

Don’t be surprised if a WR is picked on day 2 of the draft.

Unless the Packers sign a decent FA WR between now and the draft, I would be shocked and scratching my head if they didn't use one of their first 2 picks on a WR. Because as of today, they don't have much beyond Adams and Cobb and what are the chances both of them even stay healthy for all 16+ games?

Nelson had a $12.5M cap number, a $10.2M base salary and $2.3M prorated bonus charge.

Even if they restructured for $7.5M, we'd still have been charged for his 2.3M prorated bonus, so his cap number would have still been $9.8M, so only a net $2.7M savings.

To "only" save 5M versus cutting him would have required slashing his cap number all the way down to $5.2M, which would require a base salary cut down to $2.9M. Would have been insulting to even propose that.
I’ve said Cap hit several times in similar examples and threads but you are correct I didn’t clarify it here.
Once again...a 7.5 Cap hit would’ve left him with a respectable 5.2M check and saved us 5M towards our Cap. 5M Jordy 5M GB. Very fair.
You said it would be insulting to offer him less? but Apparently the FO didn’t see it that way. the reports say that they offered him just over league minimum (1.105M). Now that’s insulting!! There’s nothing insulting about 5.2M IMO.

I’m pretty sure had we offered him a deal at 7.5 total Cap (including all previous and future incentives/ “out the door”) .. he would’ve signed up. We could’ve budged another .5M if necessary but our 1.1M+ total offer was a ridiculous offer and that is insulting.

It is what it is. But As fans who followed him every week for a decade.. we don’t have to pretend he sucked either. Every story and video I’ve seen is embellished to fit a narrative that he sucked. I don’t agree he sucked im sorry. You can’t use numbers from the crappy play of a 1st time starting QB to support that Jordy sucked. He would’ve been a steal as a slot receiver for 5M IMO.

Depends, Jordy might have stayed at a significantly reduced price. But the not much more than the vet minimum is likely somewhere between 1-2 million. Would Jordy have stayed for say 5 million?

We saw James Jones unable to make a roster until we brought him in right before a season and be surprisingly effective. For a quarterback like Rodgers veteran receivers who run routes the right way and read defenses the right way will always have value. I suspect that we'll find it hard to replace the kind of production that Jordy could muster in the slot running option routes all game long with another receiver for the kind of price he might have played for. The mind meld people talk about is a bigger issue than some seem to think.
