This is a business. Nelson wasn't getting it done. Graham is better. The goal is a SB. Not giving past greats a retirement contract. Time for Cobb & CM III to hit the road too.

You might be surprised. But then again with some of the clown GMs in this league, look at what KC gave Watkins.

You truly think Jordy will not get a solid offer from now until May?

I know he will get a solid offer.

Sometimes I think posters like to be instigaters.

Sad day. A lot of great memories.......

This feels a lot like when Donald Driver retired.

It's a business, I get it. It's likely for the best for all concerned.

Still, a sad day......

The way this story was leaked came across to me as...trying to console us Packer fans by gaining a much needed TE while they knew Jordys release would result in a disheartened fan base.
Im having a hard time being excited about the TE move. Almost like they picked Graham over Jordy and I don’t think it was meant like that.
Poor PR execution IMO.

I hope they at least tried to restructure Jordy's deal, I can't be convinced that he isn't a better possession receiver than most out there, even at this point, and he has a connection with Rodgers that no other WR has ever replicated.

Although it's a bummer to see Jordy go, Gutty releasing him and signing Jimmy Graham is proof positive there’s a new sheriff in town. This guy will make moves to win football games. The last guy made moves to make money. About damn time.

At least they didn't notify him by Twitter...

Sad to see Jordy go.

Life isn’t all about winning and neither is sports. It’s also about how you got there when you do win. It’s more about the memories and relationships.
Nobody sais on their deathbeds.. “bring me my trophies and medals!” They just want their family and friends to be around them and they’d trade that for 10 Lombardi’s trophies.

It’s ok to be a fan that missed a great player like Jordy when they leave. That is nothing to be ashamed about. Conversely if anything it shows in times like these that we care, many fans are not just about the trophies, the hype and the bragging Rights.

It sucks but it is what it is. He gotten a step slower and we have many younger guys to replace him.

For one he’s a Packer in the truest sense..in the mold of Carol Dale. 2nd And He didn’t have a quarterback to throw to him, so what is FOOLISH speculating that he’s lost anything?? He’s been hurting last couple years on top of that. If you give him the next season healthy and with a healthy quarterback like Rogers and help me right back up at the top of the league. And your boobs will be silent about him losing anything…You’ll be back on the bandwagon.… Mark my words.
Unless this is a secret strategy to resign him this is a terrible first move for the new staff! There are three teams that will take him in a heartbeat, just like they did with our O line. I hope they get this message in time!!!

Were swallowing 2.3M. I really felt like a restructure for around und 7.5M made sense. We’re only saving 5M in 2018 cutting him vs. a deal like that.
You can’t tell me he’s not worth 5M

Nelson had a $12.5M cap number, a $10.2M base salary and $2.3M prorated bonus charge.

Even if they restructured for $7.5M, we'd still have been charged for his 2.3M prorated bonus, so his cap number would have still been $9.8M, so only a net $2.7M savings.

To "only" save 5M versus cutting him would have required slashing his cap number all the way down to $5.2M, which would require a base salary cut down to $2.9M. Would have been insulting to even propose that.
