Just draft one of Calvin Ridley or dj Moore or Christian kirk or Keke coutee or Antonio Callaway. Gonna be real interesting to see what nelson gets per year, would of liked him back at 6 million per for 2/3 years to end his career. Could have been very valuable moving the chains and in the red zone. Can't have enough weapons

Stop the press!

The Saints are now in the mix for Jordy and they want him bad, as do the Seahawks.

So a guarantee of $6.5 mil per year. Good for him. Really glad he didn't go to Vikings, Lions or Bears.

I’m happy for him. Such a great guy and teammate I’m sure. I’m positive his relationship with Mckenzie and Edgar Bennett had a lot to do with it.

We could’ve kept him for a little less than what he just signed for.
At worse, 15M X 2 restructured would’ve cost us roughly 5.2M (the dead Cap was unavoidable either way) this year and 7.5 in 2019. We should’ve done this while grooming his replacement.
Now we’re back to needing 2 CBs, a WR and a LB.
Good for Jordy #87 also got 87% Guaranteed!!!
If that’s not a sign of things to come I don’t know what is!!

! Great Job Jordy I’m proud of you!

I think the Raiders will regret that investment, but good for Jordy.

I think he’s still a guy that can easily put up 750+ yards and possibly break 1,000 with the right system. Many fans have underestimated him. I understand what got in Gutes head but raw speed isn’t everything. There’s lots of great WRs who never broke 4.5X40. Jerry Rice is a prime example of this and he stands as one of the best to ever play the game.

I remember fans discounting Larry Fitzgerald over 5 years ago speculating he was washed up.
He still commands an 8 figure salary today.

I still believe Jordy would’ve taken a hometown discount. Probably even a 2yrX 12M with 8M guaranteed and that would’ve also washed his dead Cap to boot. We just lost a very good receiver for under the equivalent of 5-6M a year. But worse yet we set a new bar for all players to ask for the maximum guaranteed. Just look at his contract. Next to 100% guaranteed this is as high as you’ll see, we won a skirmish and started a “guaranteed” war in the process.

I would have expected Greg Jennings' sister to tweet out the news...

I don't think that Jordy is worth the $7.5M to the Packers. He might be to the Raiders. As for WR need, Jeronimo Allison is set to take a starting role and the coaching staff seemed excited about Michael Clark. Everyone thought that the sky was falling when Sterling Sharpe was forced into retirement. What we found was that there were a lot of good young WRs that had just never gotten much of a chance. I have a feeling that we might see something similar in 2018.

My guess is that Gutekunst will pick up a reasonably priced WR in the second wave of FA and then draft one in the second or third round, likely in a BPA scenario.

The cupboard isn't bare.

You had to figure that if Jordy still wanted to play, he wouldn't be unemployed long.

I doubt we will ever hear the full story, but I'm a bit stunned that he wouldn't have been offered an amount equal to that in Green Bay.

Aaron Rodgers might have been able to dig through his couch cushions and found that money for Jordy. :coffee:

Extending him for 7.5 mill cap hit to age 34 wasn't the right answer to the Jordy Nelson equation. Gute did the right thing and sometimes you gotta rip the band aid off. These decisions arent always popular.

I wish the best for Jordy and a nice ending to his career similar to James Jones. Glad he went to an AFC team.

That’s obviously true but You missed the big picture here.
First of all we’re still paying him 2.3M for ZERO production

Second of all who sais we couldn’t have signed him a little bit less? Do we really think he’s leaving if we offered him 6.5M? Or less?

3rd, we just set a tone for any other veteran player that their loyalty, tenure, community involvement, lockerroom attitude, their connection with our future (#12), i could go on.. none of this means squat.

4th, due to the 3rd point we just opened Pandora’s box. Jordy got a highly guaranteed contract (87%) coincidence?? Next to fully guaranteed that’s as good as they come.

We didn’t just lose a great receiver and solid citizen, we set precedent for every veteran contract going forward (particular the ones about to expire that saw this) to push for higher guarantees. This isn’t just about losing 1 aging receiver, it’s about how we treat (or mistreat) our own and the consequences that come with that. Think long term here. I defended Gute in several instances but the way this was handled was poor IMO.

You can get similar financial results without insulting the guy with near veteran minimum.

The Patriots have been doing it for years and guys still are lining up to go there. Nobody is denying what a great guy Jordy is and was to Packer community. The reality is that at the end of the day its about winning and putting the team in the best positon to do that.

Explain to me how setting the tone for high guaranteed money is beneficial?

All im saying is guys arent gonna want to stop coming and playing for Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers isnt gonna leave because of this and the Green Bay community as we know it isnt gonna change. This is just business as usual in the NFL.

Jordy Nelson is going to be in the Packer HOF at the very least so people just need to relax a bit.

You’re right you’re right. We shouldn’t care.
Jordy being only 1 of 4 current players out of over 40 widereceivers that both make at least 5M/year+ and that landed at least 87% guaranteed contract $ or more.
Btw. ALL are young guys.
Amari Cooper 100%
Corey Davis 100%
Jarvis Landry 100%...
Jordy Nelson!! 87%

John Ross 100%
Devante Parker 100%
OBJr 100%
Corey Coleman 100%

All of them are young guys. 25,24,23,34,..
22, 25,25,23...
Anyone else see a pattern here??

Matter of fact not one receiver over the age of 30 has a guarantee comparable contract anywhere close to 87% or above Jordy Nelson. Not even 1

Larry Fitzgerald ZERO guaranteed

That shouldn’t bother me tho.. it’s just business as normal. Anyone remember Sesame Street? Pick out the one that doesn’t fit?? :whistling:

I pray I’m the only one that recognizes this. I really hope I’m wrong and this was just a fluke, those Raiders they’re pretty out of touch in that office ;)
