My opinion is that in general, teams that are better than average who fire good coaches hoping for great, don't get that result. Firing your coaching staff and expecting something better seems to be a fools errand.
I agree. The problem is this is not an above average team.My opinion is that in general, teams that are better than average who fire good coaches hoping for great, don't get that result. Firing your coaching staff and expecting something better seems to be a fools errand.
The shareholders can't.
The Green Bay Packers Board of Directors can,
and should, fire Murphy and Thompson.
Murphy is mostly responsible for the financial state of the Packers and has done a fantastic job realting to it. There's no reason to fire him.
Cant agree more with this and would add Ball's name to that same list. IF there is a full shakedown in GB at some point in the near future, retaining both would serve the Packers well IMO.
While Ball has done a fantastic job managing the salary cap I'm quite sure a new general manager would replace him with his own guy.
You still don't understand my idea....
They could just take a survey to just get opinions on things and the outcome would not have a direct influence of any changes.

Hence why I'm not yet ready to call it "The End" for MM at the end of this year. But the overall direction of this team is going to be paid close attention to by Mark Murphy, and while I don't expect him to pull the trigger in a knee-jerk fashion, I can't see him thinking nothing is going on with our current GM and HC. What we clearly got right now is a team that seems mentally in the tank and seems to be coming across to some fans including myself, as sometimes giving up the fight, based on body language. Of course we're going to pull for and hope somehow they get some sort of renewed resolve in the 2nd half of this season, but if this trend continues 8-8 is not going to make the playoffs. Gotta wait and see where things go, but until there's clear definitive reasons to believe they've got their resolve back I think it's reasonable to turn up the heat a bit on MM.
If the Packers continue to struggle the rest of the season a sample size of 28 games should be large enough to figure out that McCarthy and possibly Thompson aren't able to turn things around and therefore change might be the best way to get the team back on track.
I agree with that assessment. I also think we've been top heavy on D In the draft and I understand we've had Defensive needs so I'm not saying it was necessarily wrong.Perhaps ... I'm not Murphy but I trust his judgment. I guess if it were me, I wouldn't fire MM after this year even if we missed the playoffs just because I feel like he could get 1 year here of not doing so, having made them 8 of the 10 years he's been here so far, and making them the last 7 in a row, plus 3 trips to the NFCCG and 1 SB win. However, I wouldn't extend the rope beyond 2017. I'd say miss the playoffs this year, and you got till the end of 2017 to get this ship righted, but if the same old thing happens or things get worse, then it's out the door. Just my thoughts on it.
then.. they better be looking for OLbs in free agency lolI agree with that assessment. I also think we've been top heavy on D In the draft and I understand we've had Defensive needs so I'm not saying it was necessarily wrong.
I think this year we need at least 2 of the top 3 draft picks in the area of TE, RB, WR and I wouldn't be opposed to trading up to attain a better option similar to how we did with the Spriggs pick last year.
It's time to push some chips in and bet on Aaron by surrounding him with more options.
you know we're completely decimated by injuries, right?
They were decimated by injuries worse than this in 2010.you know we're completely decimated by injuries, right?
They've been struggling for over a year now and it's gotten worse. If the coaches haven't fixed their struggles by now, that's just more ammunition for changes.I just see a struggling football club. I don't see any evidence that they've stopped caring.
One of MM's pet peeves was that not enough of his assistant's were getting hired for OC or HC jobs and he took it personal. May be a reason.....no one else thinks they are that good

The time is passed for making excuses for this team. Injuries don't explain why they have obviously stopped caring. If you can't see this self-evident truth I can't help you.
