I should probably follow other teams better... but why was he released? His cap didn't seem all that high. Are the Niners overly flush with OLbs ?

Well ... those two hobbled surely must be better than Brad Jones, who posters can no longer scapegoat.

Not sure what your point is? You said with the Brooks signing all is well at the linebacker position, I'm more hopeful, but that would be with a healthy Clay and Perry.

All I seemed to find was the 49'ers want to save $5.2M cap, go with their younger LB's and give Brooks a chance to sign with another team.....that last part I always kind of snicker at.....Wow....what a bunch of nice guys over there running the 49'ers! "Here is your pink slip...you can do better than us"

John Lynch GM of 49'ers: "....by making this decision now it will give Ahmad a head start on exploring his options with other teams. We wish him and his family nothing but the best."

My understanding is they were transitioning from a 3-4 to a 4-3 and they were using him as a SOLB. As such, he wasn't as valuable to them anymore.

Will be interesting to see the details of Brook's contract. I suspected this would be the way Thompson filled the roster at the end. I've suspected all along they want Biegel to start the season on PUP and use him late in the season. If we get one or two decent seasons out of Brooks as a backup and emergency starter imo this signing is worth it as an insurance policy. I'd be surprised to see any more signings unless we get hit hard with injuries at a position group in the last pre-season game.

Thank You TT! This will take a lot of pressure off Biegel getting back into the rotation and allow both him and Fackrell to develop under some more veteran leadership. One of the things I especially like about this signing is Ahmad's durability. He played in 120 games over an consecutive 8 year span with the 49rs.

New Packers LB Ahmad Brooks: He was to make $4.5M with #49ers. Gets $3.5M base in August from #Packers....with a chance to make $5M

- Rapaport.
I would suppose the $1.5 mil is a games played incentive. We'll see how it works out.

Oh sure.....just go ahead and wake up the "injury gods"! You just jinxed him, or was putting the Green and Gold on sufficient enough to wake them?

The injury Gods already have their hands full with Clay, Nick, Fackrell and Biegel... Ahmad will slip under the radar while everyone else are holding their groins :ninja:

Smh I honestly wouldn't be upset if after this season they drafted another olb in the 1st rd. I just can't understand why they let Peppers go.
Agreed on both accounts. I'm still smh on not drafting Watt. It will be interesting to see how both he and King's career pan out, but right now, I think TJ would have probably have more of an impact on what happens in 2017 But beyond that, you just hope for progress from King and he turns into the smarter pick.

Pretty sure that's what happened with peppers because they signed brooks for the same money peppers signed for. Brooks seems like he should add comparable value. I'd guess 6 sacks

Exactly. But I doubt Peppers wanted to leave a SB contender even to go back home. TT may have low balled him, he didn't accept..and that was that.

He was a bad pick. Time to move on.

How many were screaming 2 years ago to cut Davante Adams immediately, or T.J. Lange, who sucked his first 2 years? Who wanted to run James Jones out of town about 5 years ago? How many were begging for a replacement for Bahktiarri after his rookie year? Likely the same people wanting to cut Spriggs, and Fackrell right now. Given the salary cap, free agency, drafting late every year, and seeing that the whole system is set up for parity, it's amazing to make the playoffs 8 years straight. I think the Packers personnel people know better than we do how to run a football team in the NFL.

Curious as to what your thoughts are on the move? Yeah, meah or nah?

Thumbs up for me. A necessary move given the injuries and just the overall lack of depth at OLB. I still think they are one quality player short at the position.

I'm impressed with Thompson this offseason. He has actually at least recognized and tried to shore up some areas where we were weak, whereas at times in the past he would just hope we could get by with what we had. Not sure it will be enough, but I'm feeling better about the team than I thought I would at this point.
