I think this development may impact the competition for the 3rd running back position. MM may be inclined to keep the back who has the best hands..

If that's the case Alonzo Harris may be in trouble. He had two bad drops in the open field in the Pittsburgh game.

And that's the risk and exactly why he would have been carted off if they suspected a complete tear. So apparently they didn't suspect it to be completely torn.

Walking with a suspected partial tear would have been worse as further damage could make it complete tear. Walking with a complete tear and possibly causing damage to another ligament is much less worrisome as any damage to another ligament wouldn't be as bad as a full ACL tear.

I'd bet they just assumed Jordy wouldn't trip on the way to the locker room, or Jordy wanted to walk. Not that it would be good if he tore another ligament also, but if he did it would heal up long before the ACL was better.

To be fair, we won't know if its optimal or not until Montgomery gets a shot with our starters full time. Same with Janis for that matter. Lots of rookie WR's come into the league and make impacts every year.

Mostly those guys are first-rounders though and weren't drafted out of Division II or because of their performance in the return game.

And there's no reason to feel comfortable starting Montgomery in the slot right now.

Exactly, that's what I've said repeatedly and the reason why I would only feel comfortable entering the season with another veteran receiver starting on the boundary.

Nelson is a great receiver, no doubt. However, if the Packers were going to lose their best player at any position then it's best that it was at receiver. Rodgers is a great QB and great QBs generally don't need great WRs to excel and Rodgers STILL has a great WR left in Cobb. Whoever starts opposite Cobb this year will end the season as a very good receiver at a minimum. Everyone thinks the Steelers will have the best offense in the NFL this year and, with the loss of Nelson, the Packers now have a receiver group that's just a small step behind theirs. However, the Packer's QB is a large step better so I see no reason that the Packers shouldn't still field a top-3 offense this year.

I agree the Packers will still feature one of the best offenses in the league. I prefer to continue playing Cobb in the slot though.

And how would that veteran know the Packers' playbook any better? We would still be better off using White in the slot or Janis on the outside until that veteran got up to speed half-way through the season. Like it or not, White, Janis and Montgomery are going to see a lot of time, with Montgomery probably seeing the least.

I guess James Jones still knows a ton about the Packers offense after playing for the team for seven years.

I think Janis is better than Jones right now. Jones has lost a step, IMO. However, Janis hasn't shown me that he can handle the mental part of the game.

Unfortunately the mental part is the most important thing to gain Rodgers trust. I wonder why anyone would think Janis is better than Jones after the former Packer had a career-high 73 receptions last year while Janis played a total of 16 snaps.

This is going to be all about Adams, is ready to make the jump to full time starter?

Adams' workload will definitely increase but IMO it's about finding someone other than Cobb being capable of starting on the outside.

Correct, which is why I say the 6' 1" 215 lbs. Adams is going to have to step up big time. He is never going to match Jordy's incredibly deceptive speed, but he should be able to play on the outside with rather good success.

I think adams will come through and have a break out year giving the opportunity now that nelson is out for the season. sometimes people shine when they are not "backup" and are wholly dependent on. and who can ever forget that miami game when arod fake spiked and passed it to adams! yes, that was a simple catch but to depend on him in a crucial play like that says a lot about roger's confidence in adams!

You know what I want to know about this whole situation?

Where the hell was Jordy Nelson's "fall guy"...

Nelson's 2014 Stats: 98 Rec, 1,519 Yds, and 13 TD's

Cobb's 2014 Stats: 91 Rec, 1,287 Yds, and 12 TD's

I seriously doubt if Adams, Janis or any other player (besides Cobb) will have the kind of numbers Jordy had in 2014 this year. Nor do they need to for success. The key will be to spread the wealth around more to the TE's, backs and other wide receivers. Stats aside, I think AR is going to flat out miss having his go to guy. Someone he always knew what he was thinking and usually could count on for making those tough clutch catches. So life will go on without Jordy, I just hope that AR doesn't get rattled by some inconsistent play by younger less experienced guys.

Whether or not we sign anyone, I would bet the house that someone is going to step up statistically, big time, just by default.

When Greg Jennings is a #1/#2 here and a #4 guy elsewhere, and Jones is a #2/#3 here and a roster bubble guy anywhere else, I've got to wonder how much the Aaron Rodgers effect is really worth.
