No doubt Devante will make a significant leap on offense, even if by default.

Rodgers hasn't even targeted Janis once in a game during his time with the Packers. Let's get that out of the way first before talking about coming back to him if he messes up.

So what? Janis has had extremely few opportunities to even play with the starters, which is about to change. How many times has Rodgers targeted White or Montgomery in a game?

Geez, that was a horrible drop, every wide receiver on an NFL team has to make that catch.

You're right. No NFL receiver would drop a pass like that. One of these days the guy might cost us a game. Wait... that actually sounds familiar:

Not admitting that makes you look like a fool.

And I'm getting sick and tired of your personal insults.

So what is the feeling everyone? Will TT look outside for help or will we replace Jordy from within? Its Monday and we have roughly 3 weeks before Chicago.....if he were to bring in someone else, it'll be this week wont it? Sooner the better so they get acclimated to Rodgers and our O? But question is, who would we go after? TT rarely, if ever? makes trades at this point....or trades period for the matter.

I'm guessing he'll make a call about Greg Jennings or maybe James Jones?

Just going to throw this out there.....if you were TT would you go after James Jones and what would you be willing to give the Giants for him?

I would be fine with giving up a seventh-round pick for him.

I'd go after James Jones after he was cut, if he was cut. I'm not giving up a draft pick though for a guy cut from one team, and on the bubble for another. I think he'd be better than what we have, but then I think we have plenty of options even if Jordy is not there.

By waiting for the Giants to cut Jones other teams would have a chance to claim him off the waiver wire.

Yeah it was an excellent, Nelson-like catch. And only someone with height and reach could have made it.

Janis didn't catch it though as he was out of bounds.

God this sucks. I don't think Adams can completely fill the role of flanker either, he's more a possession guy. Guys like Montgomery and Janis may get some chances in that role.

Montgomery is best suited to play in the slot.

Jennings is with the Dolphins and they supposedly love him, I doubt that's going to be a possibility. Jones would be the best option I can think of. I don't want Welker, and I don't want him on the team on a personal level, either. His brain is about one more hit away from being mashed potatoes.

I think he'll bring in a veteran, preferably a former Packer if they will accept a budget contract. Otherwise, he'll let the youngsters fill the void.

If Jones gets cut I really wouldn't understand why ted wouldn't pick him up even if it's just for some depth. Otherwise I don't see any drastic moves being made. I don't think it would be very trigger finger of a reaction to pursue JJ. But i'm not a GM of an nfl team.

I agree with you there. I don't want Welker either. I'd rather see Janis or White take that spot.

If it is low severity does it still require surgery? I'm no sports dr!
Depends on how much the ligament was stretched. If it is a partial tear with minimal stretching, it'll probably be allowed to heal naturally. If it is torn clean or if there was significant stretching, then surgery will be required.

There's precedent for Ted to trade a draft pick to the Giants, he did trade them a 6th for Ryan Grant despite him being a UDFA.

I'd say a conditional pick for Jones sounds good. 7th if he makes the roster, 6th if he is active for all 16 games. The problem with waiting to see if he gets cut, as Captain mentioned, is that you may not get waiver priority on him.

There isn't enough instability to put other ligaments at risk with just walking, assuming he doesn't step wrong and twist his knee.

And that's the risk and exactly why he would have been carted off if they suspected a complete tear. So apparently they didn't suspect it to be completely torn.

If Jones comes back, I'm almost certain he'll be starting opposite Adams in week 1 against Chicago.

Gotta say...and I hate saying this...but this is probably the best time that this could have happened (well, other than with 1 minute to play, ahead in the Super Bowl.) We have enough time to figure things out and minimize this blow before chicago/seattle/kasnas city

Yep, I agree 100%. These same sentiments have been said here already though. "Better now than mid season"

This isn't about White or Montgomery as both are best suited to play in the slot. As of right now there's no reason to feel comfortable starting Janis on the outside going into week 1. If Thompson decides to not bring in a veteran it's almost guaranteed the Packers will move Cobb outside and probably start Montgomery in the slot which isn't optimal either.

There's no doubt that was a terrible drop of Nelson. The difference to Janis being that he proved to be an elite player before that mishap.

There aren't a ton of options available. James Jones might be the best one if the Giants think about getting rid of him.

Totally not the point here, but if he goes out with 1 minute to play, ahead in the Super Bowl, with a torn ACL, he's probably going to miss the next season. So this is probably better. :)

To be fair, we won't know if its optimal or not until Montgomery gets a shot with our starters full time. Same with Janis for that matter. Lots of rookie WR's come into the league and make impacts every year.

yeah i figured its been said 100 times :).

I'm also hoping it's one of those things where, now that we've suffered a major injury our "injury Juju" if you will, is good...meaning we won't suffer anything more than the typical stingers and non-major injury's that occur throughout a normal nfl season from here on out.

And there's no reason to feel comfortable starting Montgomery in the slot right now. Montgomery is going to be a good WR, but he's not ready yet. Starting him in Week 1 would put siginificant limitations on the offense. The Packers playbook is very intensive and requires a full season to assimilate. Even with Adams last year there were plays that they didn't run due to his inexperience, especially early on. The better option in the slot right now if Cobb moves outside would be White. He knows the playbook inside and out by now. Either that or you leave Cobb in the slot where he has thrived for 4 years and put Janis on the outside. They'll probably do some of both. Either way, they'll be fine.

Well that depends on how much you value a Super Bowl. If you see it as worth losing a star player for the next season, its certainly debatable.

As much as I would like to see James Jones back in GB and also would rather see him in the final 5 on the roster over White and all others behind him on the depth chart......it may not happen. The Giants are struggling to get healthy at WR right now, couple that with a pretty decent last game for Jones; 5 receptions for 83 yards, we may not be able to talk the Giants into a trade for even a 6th rounder.
