We are 6-2 and about to hit the toughest stretch on schedule with some substantial ? Marks, particularly on D. We should be going after 1 substantial upgrade.

I’ll not be happy if Detroit upgrades on D and we get left in the wake. I feel a little Kevin Greene boiling in my blood. Except my appeal is not to CM3, but rather Brian G.

I hope this signing doesn’t in any way, shape or form prohibit us from upgrading in FA at CB or Edge/DL. Thats really my only concern is that it becomes a potential distraction to getting a dominant player added to our D.
Other than that, this looks like at most a good depth piece with possible upside of grooming for ST and a low cost, low risk signing.

Yeah, I don't think the PS signing of Davis changes anything that Gute may or may not do regarding in season trades, FA signings or plucking guys off of other teams Practice Squads.

Gute has proven that he is always looking to improve the roster, from bottom to top. He saw a guy in Davis, that was worth taking a chance on and signed him to the PS to replace a guy (Chris Davis Russell) that he must have determined had come as far as he would with the Packers.

Another team can claim him at ANY time directly to their 53 active roster if they wanted...this move DID NOTHING to stop/stall anything move wise elsewhere unless Gute is the worst GM in the entire league.

I think you need to have more confidence in what Gute does. I know people have been talking about trying to land some big name on the DL, LB or CB, but does a 6-2 team need to do that, just to do it? Will 1 guy make such a big difference that its worth mortgaging our 2025 draft and cap for him?

Considering what has happened to Love this season and the fact that I thought 2024 was still another year of development, I am super happy with being 6-2. Now if Gute can find a way to improve the roster for this season and beyond, without throwing a ton of the future assets away, I would be on board.

Oh I absolutely trust Gute. Matter of fact I’ve defended him on multiple occasions over his tenure. That doesn’t mean I think he doesn’t make mistakes or become complacent like human nature deals all of us. I also absolutely want him bettering this Roster. For 2 reasons:

1. I think it probable we see a spike in production on Offense as the year progresses. Maybe not on the level of 2023, but an increase either way. Cleaner games, smoother Wins etc.

2. I think it’s probable we will have other players injured throughout the course of the season. We are already thinner at CB. We have a starting caliber TE, RB and Safety coming back likely after the Bye. (Musgrave, Lloyd, Williams)

3. Starting 6-2 is wonderful. However wonderful changes quickly when you let your guard down. There are lots of ways to bring good players aboard and restructure contracts to avoid “mortgaging our future”. Nobody needs to get crazy, we should press the throttle down some if an opportunity presents itself.

Disagree on claim Musgrave and Lloyd are starting level guys. Musgrave will get for sure snaps more than Lloyd but he is second fiddle to Kraft in a big way.

So saying I want the Packers to focus on an upgrade at a thin position makes Gute the worst GM? ok I think you’re getting way too defensive.

I disagree. I think you’re underestimating them.

Just because Musgrave took a step back and Kraft has risen does not erase what we saw last season from Rookie Musgrave. If you go back and look he’s barely played this season and he was coming off an injury one game and injured in another. Then suited up but never played his last game before IR. Mark my words nobody has given up on Musgrave in 2024. This is a long season and I’m expecting 18-19 games minimum. We will be through 9 games after the Bye. Watch closely how he gets ramped IF he’s healthy.

Also the way RB’s are de-valued, a #88 selection is more substantial than you think. Many 3rd Round RB’s pop in their Rookie season or soon after. I consider getting RB2 snaps starting btw. It’s significant. We call it a 1-2 punch for a reason. Let’s not hang on technicalities here.
I fully expect Lloyd to work into the lineup. He’s much more talented than Emmanuel Wilson long term imo. I predict he’ll overtake RB2 by next season at latest. I’m not talking today, but we need to prime him and that happens with playing time. Possibly by playoffs if he gets back in? Absolutely a possibility .

This is also assuming no regulars miss any time. I think that’s presumptuous to act like that will happen also. Injuries are a natural part and we can look at the list grow or evolve week to week to believe it. Now, God Willing, we will have both in the mix without injury to anyone.

No I was saying IF signing a PS player stops him in FA as you put it he’d be a moron.

It’s been confirmed by a lot of sources Gute has been in talks for CBs which I would embrace and I really want him to make Clowney a Packer
