The better deal that we got for that tells me we owe moreso of Rodgers contract than they do. That was a great deal. Well done.

Just a guess, but perhaps a somewhat nervous Woody Johnson sent a memo to Joe Douglas...."Git'er dun!"

Not really thrilled with having to give up our first round pick, to be honest. Effectively, we're just moving up two spots.
Why not? The Packers were never going to get the 13th straight up. You might as well move up 2 slots.

Nice job Front office! Let’s lower our expectations for any Offensive skilled positions in the first. Lol Gute will go D like always. Here’s to hoping for some offensive weapons for the next two picks

This is basically the original agreement with the Packers refusing to do a possible give back in 2025 if AR didn't play in 2024.

Overall I think it's fair on both sides.

How the Packers see it:

Aaron Rodgers trade: Packers have absolutely fleeced the Jets

(Sounds enthusiastic).

How the Jets see it:

The NY Jets did not get fleeced in Aaron Rodgers trade

(Sounds defensive).

I haven't heard anyone suggesting Guty got fleeced, so that's a good thing.

Neither team got fleeced.

Both teams I feel got a very fair deal. The Packers wanted to move on and everyone knew it, so the fact that the Packers got back a 2nd and maybe a 1st is a good return.

And if you're the Jets, you *only* gave up a 2nd and what the Jets sincerely hope is a 1st in 2024 for a hall of fame quarterback that they feel has plenty of gas left in the tank. If they get into the playoffs and win a playoff game, that would mean they absolutely have a shot at a Super Bowl.

Only until the 65% level is reached. Then, some minor injury that keeps him out the rest of the season and results in a higher 2024 #1.

Best case scenario: Rodgers plays 65% of the snaps, underperforms, Jets finish last in the division, Rodgers retires and comes back to Green Bay to retire as a Packer.

Worst case scenario: Rodgers misses the 65% mark but the Jets win the Super Bowl anyway, and the pick ends up being #64.

Most likely scenario: Neither one of those two listed above.

It's all good.

Anyone who says either the Jets or Packers got fleeced is simply posting clickbait. This is basically the deal from the beginning, and the Packers didn't cave to the Jets having cold feet when AR said he was 90% retired. That's when they asked for give back protection in 2025 if AR didn't play in 2024. Good on the Packers for holding firm. I think that was low of the Jets but the deal's done now and AR is their problem to figure out how to keep him engaged and content.

And I am fine with that unless a stud offensive lineman drops.

The 65% of snaps for 2023 is really odd. Were the Jets thinking Rodgers might retire mid-season in 2023?
I agree and that's what lead me to my conclusion. They wanted protection, but it seems weird that they settled on just injury protection or theoretically retiring mid-season. I can't for the life of me see why they think he would retire halfway through and would think they wanted more than one year of protection to get a first next year.
