If 4 they spoke to him and said we want Josh., I think that the fo won't like that

Agents, or intermediaries, talk to agents, or intermediaries.

That's why coaches can often say that they haven't been talking to another team, or another school...because they haven't been. But their agent, or somebody talking on behalf of them, has been talking to somebody else talking on behalf of that team/school.

It isn't like Gute called up McDaniels himself while MM was still coaching here. There are middlemen at work.

Might also be a way to give the old coaches a bit for their resume that they were let go due to the regime change and not just outright fired once the season was done.

I can see the Packers wanting to do everything in their power to get Zook a job somewhere else

Then fire his ***. Don't take the risk that the next HC will decide to keep him on board.

Hey Rodell what does your connection think about the rumors that McDaniels is interested in the Browns job?

Jerellh528 made some good points for Fitzgerald, but if Murphy wants him because he's a buddy that doesn't thrill me.

You'd have to think that the Packers and Browns are the best two spots open. I'd really like to see McCarthy get that Browns job though.

No it wouldn’t because the Rooney rule only implies that you interview Minority coaches...not hire them. The Packers have already met their quota.
Yes I know.

But if it is shown they always wanted JM, like a inside offer, then their interview was never a real interview

I'm not fully up to speed on the Rooney Rule, but I doubt, unless a deal was already made, before they met the Rooney Rule stipulations, than they wouldn't be in any kind of violation of it.

While there might be mutual interest by both the Packers and Daniels, I'm guessing they haven't come to terms with him.

We could possibly find out as soon as tomorrow.

A couple of updates in case people here aren't aware yet. As to Fitzgerald. He hemmed and hawed at his post bowl game interview yesterday morning about interviewing for the Packers or any other NFL team. However that afternoon his agent shedding no one certain terms he's not leaving Northwestern.Period.
McDaniels- he is interviewing with the Packers probably today, and word is he has turned down a couple of other interviews. However there is now word that he is really interested in the Browns job.
Guys, go to www.sportspyder.com, the Packers page. they are pulling in stories from sites about the Packers all over the internet, and have a Twitter feed. Both are constantly updated. One-Stop shopping for all your Packers news.

I don't have time to ready stories from all over the internet or twitter. I already have enough ******** in my head to contend with LOL

anyway, i'm not a McD's fan so I hope he doesn't come here. Unless of course the real power comes from the FO and McD's is just the offensive guy and they're keeping Pettine as DC and forming their own staff. Which would be different than a lot of places, but it's an option I think is as likely as any with the power structure in GB.

But as a whole, I think the Browns job is a lot more attractive. Finally a FO in place that has stones, ability and stability. A young roster with a lot of talent to develop and on the rise in a city starved for success. Sign me up man.

FWIW:

Here is a look at the current odds from BetDSI:

Green Bay Packers head coach in Week 1 of 2019 reg. season

  • Josh McDaniels +100 (1:1)
  • Matt LaFleur +250 (5:2)
  • Jim Caldwell +350 (7:2)
  • Dan Campbell +500 (5:1)
  • Mike Munchak +1000 (10:1)
  • Brian Flores +1000 (10:1)
  • Chuck Pagano +1500 (15:1)
  • Joe Philbin +2000 (20:1)

https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/...-head-coach-favor-josh-mcdaniels-matt-lafleur

Time will tell.
I'm shocked they take wagers on this kind of thing. There maybe a favorite and Murphy and the rest of the FO knows. That's a valuable tip to friends and family.

that doesn't help that my brain is already overloaded with BS. At least if I have to hunt for my meals i'll burn some off. If I just sit at a buffet, it will be pouring out of my ears and I won't even now it.

A huge advantage with the Browns is expectations. Many Packer fans demand and think it's reasonable to win the SB every season. I think they believe no other team is actually trying.

Remember the start of last season? The Browns season opener was a tie and it was their best start to a season in like l5 years. Fans were overjoyed!

I will bet you that you can find someone to take wagers on just about anything. ;)

Yeah, I don't know about that "every season" bit, but clearly for a coach coming in, anything less than an eventual Super Bowl win will be viewed as a failure.

Guessing that those expectations have or will in the very near future go in opposite directions. Cleveland fans are very optimistic right now, as they should be with the talent they have accumulated.

While I think the Packers aren't in as bad of shape as the Cleveland Browns of old were, I have very little expectations of a 2019 Super Bowl.

I can't help but wonder if the Packers hadn't reworked Rodgers contract early and all other things stayed the same, how much talk would there be right now about trading Rodgers?

My older brother played with Josh McDaniels in HS, on a state championship football team where Josh was the QB and his dad Tom was the Head Coach. They are still a tight knit group, who actually keep in contact. Inside source says Josh is ONLY going to leave NE if he gets the Packers job...which is the ONLY job he will leave for...and WANTS. The Packers want Josh and actually reached out to him SEVERAL times. I’m almost 100% sure he’s going to be the next HC in Green Bay. Again, I have sources even the talking heads in GB don’t have.

If that's the case he'd better be ready for an angry mob

For as little we know about draft pick evauations (it doesnt stop me!), we know much less about evaluating coaches. Although I have my own ideas, I am in a wait and see approach. McDaniel or Caldwell could very well be the exact fit the Packers need.
