Elite players are hard to find period. I wouldn't call Daniels elite; more 2nd-tier, the perennial Pro-Bowler types. But even those are hard to come by in a 3-4. Anybody you get just to save cap is a pure gamble. I'd rather we run a 5-2 pinch/stop-gap/edge base and just convert safeties to linebackers than run a 3-4.

Daniels was a Pro Bowl caliber player until last season, in my opinion he regressed a bit in 2018. While I'm in favor of holding on to him for this season with him getting up there in age it might be smart to let him walk away in free agency in a year.

If that's the case, I hope Gute follows my mocks to tee, because we need to bring in 12-15 players if we let so many former starters walk in 2020. They need a year now to get adjusted so they can make that jump the following year. The cupboard has been bare for too long, this is the year to load up.

I don't think the Packers will let a lot of starters walk away in free agency in 2020. Daniels and Bulaga shouldn't be back though.

I can see the release of Daniels making sense if he has another down season, but I'd caution against releasing him sooner (this offseason). We saw the effect of losing Cullen Jenkins after our superbowl. It took years to replace him. We'd need to be confident that his replacement would keep our d-line running strong.

Daniels is under contract for only another season. The Packers wouldn't have to release him after 2019 if they decide to move on from him.

My mocks have us taking 3-4 linemen, if that's the case Bulaga can go if the market takes him, but I honestly seem him retiring a Packer if the price is right. Hell, as he gets older he could move inside. For Daniels to walk we need to be developing his replacement this year, but I also see him taking a team friendly deal in 2020. Keep in mind Wilkerson's not a sure thing either, if we jettison him this year, I can't see us dropping Daniels next year. We don't need to be adding more question marks to the defense when we just really started solving the equation.

The Packers definitely have to adequately replace Daniels and Bulaga either via free agency or the draft but I would prefer the team to move on from both of them after next season to get younger at both positions while possibly saving some cap space as well.

Scratch Graham as a possible Target in free agency as an edge rusher. hHe and the eagles have just agreed upon a three-year extension.

ESPN(Demovsky) reporting Packers and Wilkerson have mutual interest. Just as I thought easier to try and replace 1 DE than 2. Hopefully neither until 2021-2022. They both should agree to team friendly deals.

I honestly knew we never had a chance. The Cowboys may not now either. They got too many investments as it is and I'm sure Witten isn't coming back for peanuts either.

Seems like Tonyan doesn't want the Packers to draft a TE. He is working out with Kittle.

Tonyan seems like the kind of guy who's trying to maximize his opportunity through hard work. I hope LaFleur is able to make more use of him. I was excited to see what Tonyan could do once I saw he made the roster last year - he looked real good in preseason... only to see him in a special teams role and mostly ride the pine.

Agreed. And I know this isn't the correct thread, but after that week 11 bomb against the Seahawks, I thought it was going to be the start of something, especially because Graham broke his thumb same week.

I think Tonyan was just a casualty of being an undrafted rookie behind so many vets. But now it's literally just him and Jimmy I believe. I think Gute wants to see if Tonyan can really make a difference out there so I could see him drafting a TE like Alize Mack Day 3 and giving them a chance to come up together while Jimmy plays out the rest of his career in Green Bay. Jimmy doesn't strike me as a guy who wouldn't mind mentoring as well.

We're interviewing just about every single TE at the combine. Certainly seems like Gute wants a TE.

Right, as he should. But I don't think he's putting a premium/priority on the position for the Draft. I think it's more of a contingency type effort, where if other guys on his board at more priority positions are gone he has an idea of who he may take at TE for value. I expect the TE pick to be "out of nowhere" if it happens.

I mean, it all just depends how the board falls. Interviewing the top tier guys certainly shows they are considering taking a TE in the first two days.

You expect it to be *out of nowhere*?

By "out of nowhere" I mean he could pull the trigger in any round. I don't expect a run on TEs at any time during the Draft, with the exception of perhaps jockeying for the top 3 at the position. I don't see Gute getting caught up in that. I see it as a Round specific scenario where guys he wants at other positions of need are already gone.

The only exception to this rule is if Gute trades back, which I have seriously advocated for in this Draft. In my mocks I've consistently turned our 4 picks in the Rounds 1-3 into 8. That creates an entirely new situation.

I think Tonyan recognizes these possibilities and intends to not be on the outside looking in come Week 1.

A writer for Yahoo reported that the top slot receivers, Tate and Humphries named specifically, will be looking for 10-14M/season.

If that's realistic, screw signing a veteran.
