Egbuka is an intriguing prospect. I watched Ohio State a fair amount this past season and he was hit or miss. Some games he barely saw the ball and in others he was a first down machine. As good as he is, Egbuka was WR#2 on the team. I think part of his problem was play calling. I see him as a very polished route runner. The combine will be interesting to see his 40 speed but I wouldn't complain if he was the 2025 first round pick at this point.

As I've been fleshing out my Edge rankings and reviewing more of them, I'm actually coming more and more in line with thinking this class is so deep and with the OL class being a little more shallow than in years past...I know it wouldn't be the **** pick or the pick that a lot GB fans would embrace that don't understand trenches win games but OL I would say needs to be back on the table...

Tackles are EXPENSIVE to pay and Rasheed Walker has been a starting LT in the game for a while for us and is going to demand to be paid like a multi-year starting LT....I believe we are best to only pay Tom an extension and try to replace Rhyan and Walker this draft or next proactively.

That would put these back on the table these four:

Armand Membou OL 18.25 - Armand has lived at RT and has excelled there, he's actually one of my favorite pure RTs and if we didn't have Tom I'd say is a draft and plug Day1 guy...he is a little shorter and I could see him be an elite RG prospect and Gute might nab him for the 2026 season and immediately have the ability to let Rhyan walk...shoot he could beat out Sean Rhyan in year 1....we all know Morgan was splitting time till shoulder had issues flare up.

Tyler Booker OL 25.00 - Booker is a guard through and through which is rare for Gute to target. He really likes those tackles switching to guard or guards with center play so I actually would say Booker isn't someone he's picking Day1.

Josh Conerly Jr. OL 27.5 - Conerly has been red circled as a Gute type guy for me and Day1 prospect since October or so. He could start for us at LT year 1 if needed, but again any high level OL prospect is likely battling and allowing Gute to look to the future....imagine a world where Gute swings Rasheed Walker in a trade to a team hungry for a LT because we have the luxury of say Conerly and Morgan both being capable and ready...

Grey Zabel OL 36.75 - Zabel is a guy with immense playability across the board and even showcased ability at center in Mobile for the Senior Bowl. Many have Zabel pegged as the one who made the most money at the Senior Bowl. IF you hear GB call his name my hunch is they hope he comes in illustrates a capability to run center for us and keep Jenkins right at home where he is....if not Jenkins will be the center with Morgan and Zabel likely battling for LG this year. Zabel

Guys I know for a fact OL is a primary thought process in this draft for GB, BUT only if a guy they like is there. Unless something unforeseen happens I think that means we love what Rasheed has been but do not see him as big LT extension worthy and that really has me thinking if Conerly, Zabel (arms may have us viewing as a guard) or Membou if GB feels his footwork can translate to LT (or if they see Tom as that answer) all as valid Day1 options.

Ersery from Minnesota is another higher level OT with nothing but LT experience that Gute and Co could really like.

@tynimiller I'm watching the combine and James Pearce looks fantastic. Unfortunately, he seems to be on the lighter side for the Packers to take a shot at him. What are your thoughts?

Combine in the rearview, I'm projecting that the following are off the board before #23:

2 QB (Ward, Sanders)
1 RB (Jeanty)
2 TE (Warren, Loveland)
1 WR (McMillan)
3 OL (Campbell, Membou, Banks)
2 iDL (Graham, Nolen)
4 ED (Carter, Stewart, Williams, Green)
3 DB (Hunter, Johnson, Barron)

That's 18 guys. Here would be my board for the Packers among the remaining options:

Matthew Golden, WR, Texas
Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon
Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State
Luther Burden, WR, Missouri
Donovan Ezeiruaku, DE, Boston College

I love everything about Golden except in games his separation skillset just isn't what it should be IMO. That boy can fly though.

I think his separation looked worse that it was because Ewers was bad at getting him the ball on time.

Thanks for the information Tyni. I’m having a hard time making projections because I’m fairly confident Gutey is about to make a splash in FA. Maybe not 2018 4 players like, but I think we acquire at minimum 1-2 high level players (call it Bonafide Starters or $15Mil++ yearly types). Once those FA Dominos fall (depending on availability) in the next couple of calendar weeks (and they will) I’ll be much more comfortable projecting which guys we might draft.
I will offer OL, Donovan Jackson was projected to declare last year. I want to say he was later Day2 just going off memory? Anyway I noticed he’s back in the mix this draft. He’s a consensus earlier Day 2 prospect now. Although he’s too early at #23 and likely gone earlier RD2. He’s going to be really good.

My hunch is we either go CB or DL.
If we steal a CB like Byron Murphy by outbidding MN a few million a season? In pretty sure we go DL in some capacity. Mainly because several players cross our selection on the board and it’s a deep DL class in the top half of the draft for other teams. It’s also an area of primary concern with TJ’s contract expiring. Either we look to FA for an answer or we draft at DL early.

I’ll just go a Longhorn for now. This kid is special and I think he fits perfectly what we need. If we can’t steal Byron Murphy in FA, I think this is our ideal answer. Here’s a kid that’s a strong Faith based individual and that part resembles my upbringing. Add he’s got Cooper DeJean versatility. Character, Faith, Versatility, Measurables, Intelligence. He checks all the boxes. He would be an absolute gift to Hafley.

Not that the "pro's" mocks are carved in stone, but I heard on the radio today Mel Kiper was saying he's penciling in Maxwell Hairston (CB, Kentucky) to us at #23. A few other guys have him going our way too here and there. He had a great combine (I think fastest 40 time) and stock is really shooting up. But I think he is also undersized for our "typical" thresholds at CB.

He would be a massive break from pattern and types dating back to Terrell buckley

Eesh. I sure hope we don't take a WR with our 1st pick, unless it's in the 2nd round. I want to see DL and CB early for us.

I agree but that receiver from Ohio State sure sounds interesting. And the Alabama linebacker would help both pass rush and run/pass.

Living in Wisconsin maybe I've watched too many Big 10 games but if Kenny Grant is available at #23, you sprint to the podium to draft him. One Kenny, I this case Kenny Grant could replace the other Kenny, the declining Kenny Clark.

Really? Wow! I would be thrilled! We finally have someone I know about and can talk about!!

I live in Kentucky, and have seen him play a lot. This idea immediately takes me back to 7 or 8 years ago, when my favorite CB in the draft was drafted #18 in the first round by the Packers. I was so excited!

I loved Jaire, and I love this kid. Everybody loves him down here; he's a quality kid. Team captain.

Not just fast, but quick - terrific acceleration and burst. Great footwork. Reads pass plays very well, anticipates routes, picks off a lot of balls; good football IQ. Great at anticipating immediately where the ball is going. I believe he holds the school record for pick-sixes, and either holds or is close to a lot of other school records. Don't quote me on that; I may be remembering wrong.

He's a playmaker. You watch a Wildcat game, you hear his name so often you're going to think there are 2 or 3 guys named Hairston out there. I'm not trying to make him sound like Deion Sanders, but down here in Kentucky, he makes a lot of noise.

You're right about his size, but it's not a problem with his height - I think he's like 6'1", with long arms. Steals a lot of balls from the WRs because by the time the ball gets within catching distance for them, he's already caught it..

The trouble is, his frame is light. He plays at about 185 I guess, and I suppose he could bulk up to the mid-190s. Which would be about Eric Stokes/Nate Hobbs-sized, and about the same weight as Jaire or Nixon, but taller than those 2, and he's really got a slender build. Even if he added 10 pounds, I think he's still the kind of guy who plays "light" - he struggles at the college level to physically handle larger WRs, and I don't know how well he could adjust to NFL-sized receivers. He's just not someone who plays "strong".

He struggles in run support already at the college level, and frankly tackling, period, is one of his weakest points. Even at the college level, he does not look like a physical player; often seems overmatched physically. He's not afraid of contact, but he's just not the kind of kid who goes hunting for people to drill.

He might replace Jaire as the outside corner, but I don't think he could do it as a rookie. He wears down as the snaps add up; he really needs to get stronger and develop more stamina. Does not seem to hold up as well as a lot of other 185-lb corners do as the game goes on, and I think I've noticed that his tackling and just general athleticism sort of peter out in the 4th quarter.

And that's probably the one weak point that you're not going to "coach" out of him. An NFL strength coach can probably bulk up his upper body, and an NFL program can coach up stamina, but watching him play, I just don't see a tough, hard-hitting kid who likes to bring the wood. You can't expect 30-35 snaps a game out of him.

I guess as I think of it, my biggest concern that replacing Jaire with "Mad Max" would just be replacing Jaire with a brand new Jaire. A guy who is likely to get hurt more than most CBs by NFL-level contact. He missed 4, maybe 5 games last season with a shoulder injury, and it kind of raises questions about how his shoulders will be able to stand up to NFL tackles.
