Funny, I just spent 10 minutes writing a well thought out comment about how once a player leaves the Packers I really couldn't care less about them. I deleted it because I realized some of the things I said were less than complimentary to some fans. Suffice to say I'm a Packer fan and by extension I like certain players but in most cases I like them because they are Packers. Except in very rare cases when they leave I stop caring about what they do.
Would have loved to read your thoughts.
I don't personally know any NFL player, so on a whole, I neither like or dislike them as a person. Most, if not all of my comments about a player are concerning what they did on or off the field and how that effects their team. I also acknowledge that I am relying on my eyes (watching games) and what I read, for my conclussions. Typically, we don't hear much about the off field things of most players, unless it was something really out of the ordinary. Social media has opened up a whole new world of that "information". Some correct, a lot incorrect.
In regards to Aaron Rodgers, he has become the NFL Poster Child for attention. Some brought on by his greatness as a QB, but a lot of it brought on by his polarizing personality and own behaviors. Let's just say this, Aaron Rodgers the man, has painted a pretty big target on his own back. Add to it, his passive-aggressive personality through the years and he has become an easy and sporting target for critics. If he was just a nobody in the NFL, he would hardly be a footnote in the news.
Aaron reminds me of a few casual friends that I have had through the years. Probably a fun guy to be around, have a few beers and shoot the shiot with, but as I got to know more about him, a guy I wouldn't seek to hang out with. As a Green Bay Packer (in my circle of "friends") I was more interested in Aaron Rodgers the Football player and how his off the field stuff effected the team. However, now that he is a Jet, I could care less about his Football skills, but he does provide all his "ex-friends" with great off the field water cooler gossip and with that, a sense of happiness that he is not long "our friend" to deal with.
