I just hope our TE and WR guys peak before AR is too old

Obviously using hindsight but the Packers would have been better off selecting Terry McLaurin instead of Jace Sternberger with the 75th pick. The rest of the team would look exactly the same in that case as well.
I’ve thought the same thing. One poster argued with me that Terry wasn’t worthy of anything but a later round draft pick. It’s obvious the football community knew better, it’s a shame because he was one of my favorite options at receiver, he would’ve been a nice, cheap successor to Cobb. We could’ve easily had him in the 3rd round.

That said, let’s wait and see.. I think Jace could be very productive in this Offense once healthy and once he gets his shot. Keep in mind Jace had a very nice college receiving average 17.3 on 48 receptions
(Terry was 16.7 on 75 receptions)

How much of his lack of opportunities is Graham's contract though? Tonyan passes the eye test, he trucked people blocking in the preseason (saw so myself) and has more footspeed than Graham by a mile.

If Graham's contract is the main reason he receives more playing time than Tonyan it would shed a terrible light on MLF.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not giving up on Sternberger by any means. At this point the Packers would have been better off with drafting McLaurin though.

I'm not expecting much of anything from Sternberger this year, but I believe he could be an impact player down the road.

Or even DK Metcalf - of the two though McLaurin has been amazing.

Speaking of amazing clay Matthews has 6 sacks on the year

He looks like he is playing with more energy and with better quality teammates as well. However, saw some of the game last night and some of the same old same old from Clay. Kind of a one trick pony, just looking for that sack and selling out the run lanes to do it.

He got a sack but also picked up a questionable roughing the Passer penalty late in the game. Reminded me a lot of the one he had against the Vikings a few years back.

I'm quite happy with the Smith's, don't miss Clay's nagging injuries either.

I'm aware, we would have had to take him with our #2 and forego o-line help. I wanted Metcalf with our second first, shows how much I know.

I didn't like Metcalf at all coming out of college. While he hasn't had a ton of receptions so far his yards per catch is impressive.

I was listening to a radio show this morning on the drive to work. They said even with his limitations that routes can be used to take advantage of what he (Metcalf) can do - go or post routes. If a guy like him can take the top off the defense and open up the middle that opens up so much. I think his average depth per target is near the top of the league too... I'd have to double check that. So, Seattle is using him exactly how he should be, deep and for home runs.

I would’ve loved that pick. I just had a feeling pre draft he would be a good fit. That kid didn’t disappoint, he’s playing like a 3 year veteran receiver.

That said we also needed a future TE to replace Graham. We saw a few TEs picked before him that shocked me a bit due to their lack of college production. Sternberger was ripe for picking in the middle of round 3 and should provide a long term answer once he gets going. Unfortunately his preseason injury set him back, so it’s hard to get any real comparison at this point.
Drew Sample got picked #52? That just floored me as he was projected in that 5-6th round range. I would’ve been very discouraged if we picked Drew in the 2nd round or even 3rd round.

Metcalf has a total of 12 receptions on 26 targets in five games. In my opinion too early to consider him an impact player.

But what else is he doing, is he making it easier for Dissly to make plays? Is he opening things up for Lockett? Can teams put 8 in the box to stop Carson and really put him one on one? Are there other ways to analyze his impact? I guess if he gets injured we'll know.

It's tough to evaluate if Metcalf opens up the offense for other players. It's interesting to note that Carson (21.28%) has faced at least eight defensive players in the box more often than Aaron Jones (18.64%) and Jamaal Williams (19.23%).

All of the holes and weaknesses of the Packers was never going to be addressed in one offseason. There does have to be an understanding that there are a limited number of resources within an off-season in which to build a team, especially given the state of the Packers entering the offseason.

That said, it’s still premature to make any final determinations with the offense of the Packers after just 4 games. Not to mention the fact that the offense has been improved every single week thus far.

I too wanted another starting receiver this past offseason, as I wasn’t comfortable with who would be directly below Davante on the depth chart, but given how everything played out, I’m more than okay with the moves made by Gute this offseason, as he seems to have nailed most of it.

We’re finally back to having a respectable defense that we can win with. Offensive reinforcements are coming in the future, but until then, what we currently have is going to continue to mesh. And it isn’t going to be a bottom half offense in the league either.

Another point that many either don’t want to acknowledge (yet some like gbgary and flair take to a completely irrational level) is that Rodgers hasn’t yet starting clicking on all cylinders. Yes it is a new offense, but he’s missed some pretty basic throws that have stalled some drives. Once he really dials in and cleans that up, we’re going to be fine.

According to Rapoport, the Broncos are willing to trade “most” of their players if the team continues to lose.
