Long time, no see fellas...
So let's get right to it...what's the probability of EW becoming our new GM? And what's the conseus on Gutekunst as a personnel guy? Is he ready to run a franchise or are we jumping the gun there???
Well, if you have a pipeline to the 49ers, they both stink. Seriously though, I think they both could be good, and some of us hope EW will be the GM for US this coming offseason.
Wolf looked to be the cherished successor to Ted Thompson. He was given a snappy new title this past year - Ted Thompson's old title. He was also blocked from interviewing with the Lions at the end of last season. Things seemed to be falling into place for him to become our next GM, if not in 2017 then probably sometime the year after. But in a strange turn of events he was granted permission to interview with the 49er's. Personally, I'm trying to understand what that all means. Something has changed and we don't yet know what that could be.Long time, no see fellas...

I didn't think we had any kind of chance with Wolf. Everything I had read on him prior to this year had said he was defintely next up when Thompson retired. Didn't you guys even block his interview requests last year? But then when I saw he was meeting with us, I was kind of shocked. Wouldn't surprise me if he was just doing his due diligence and is definitely staying in GB. But I just wondered why now are they letting him interview all of a sudden? Is there some friction there those outside the fansbase don't know about?
I'm not all that surprised that the Packers blocked Wolf from interviewing with a division rival.Wolf looked to be the cherished successor to Ted Thompson. Gutekunst is even more of a mystery. The details of what he does goes largely unseen and unreported to us fans. He seems to be well liked within the organization, though. From a fan's perspective we just don't know what qualities he has that the organization holds in high esteem.
The outcome of the interviews with the 49er's will help to clarify some of the above perhaps. Your guess is as good as mine regarding either of them functioning effectively in the capacity of a GM. Who knows, you may end-up getting both somehow. At any rate, several GMs have fallen-off the Ted Thompson administrative tree and have been grabbed by other teams fairly recently. All are doing rather well for themselves. At this juncture there's no reason to doubt that Wolf and Gutekunst can't be successful, too.

That's true but I was surprised the Packers granted the Niners permission to interview Wolf and Gutekunst.
They couldn't have denied it once the Packers season was over, so unlike last year when they denied Wolf the opportunity to interview with Detroit for their GM job that he was considered a front runner, they must have decided this time it wasn't worth pissing Eliot (and his Dad) off.
It could be an indication of the Packers realizing that if they want Wolf now or in the near future, they better just let him look around and keep him happy knowing his GM job awaits him in GB. Or, it could be mean that TT has told the Packers that he isn't ready to give up the job anytime soon and they have chosen TT over Wolf for now.
Favre only has one.Which is an absolute joke. TT has two years left max. We have Aaron Rodgers and one SB!! We have an all time great!! Murphy needs to grow a pair and push him aside...
Favre only has one.
Point is, two different Gm styles and each only one SBWhich is also a shame.

Since Wolf doesn't have much experience outside of Green Bay, he may have a bit of that Greg Jennings point of view. All he's been told is how good it is to be in Green Bay. He may want to break free of those chains to "see the world." Letting him interview with a spoiled kid owner may allow him to see that the grass is not always greener on the other side.It could be an indication of the Packers realizing that if they want Wolf now or in the near future, they better just let him look around and keep him happy knowing his GM job awaits him in GB. Well we can't do anything about the past. Murphy can step up now and ensure our saviour Wolf doesn't leave.

Ted got the team in a spot for 2 more SB..No matter how you view it, it was Ted's hand that helped. We all know what happened..So we get to sit back and wait for the next HOFer?
At least Brett was in another SB, the loss in which a lot of folks blame on Holmgren.
Per the article, there's much more to the job than evaluating talent. Maybe he's just not ready this soon or that the chemistry he has with the rest of the Packer staffers does not feel right to Murphy and others. Who knows at this point? But if it's a matter of him being a much better fit somewhere else then so be it.McGinn's take on the Packers GM situation:

I'm guessing that Gutekunst is probably more ready to run a franchise than Wolf. He's got 11 years on Wolf so it's likely he's more mature, more respected by peers and has learned things like patience and self-discipline.Long time, no see fellas...
