When he started finding his groove, he played well for us last season. IMO he should be our top priority to resign and I think that a lot of our offseason hinges on this contract decision. Given our limited availability of cap space (roughly 25M after certain deductions for rookies and such) and the fact that he will probably command more than 7m a year, will he be retained?

Personally I want to sign him up for at least 3 years, even if it would mean we would have to cut Tramon in order to adequately strengthen other positional groups. Thoughts?

He said that this is the place he wants to be, so we'll see if they can make it happen. I agree to take probably an average of about 7 million per season

I'm definitely in favor of re-signing Breeland. In addition I agree that they should release Williams to create cap space if necessary to fit his contract under the cap.

I would agree. I'd like Breeland back, I don't think he's coming cheaply. Nobody wanted to take a chance on him. We did, but at the minimum, it's not like he's going to feel he owes us a favor. he likely feels some team owes him some cash, and he's not really wrong. I'm not going to blame him trying to get all he can. He worked his way back and was a pretty solid player for us. I don't know if I want to make him a top paid DB in the league by any means, but if cutting Tramon means we can get him under contract i'm for it. He's going to be around for a while.

I like Tramon, always have, but he's on his way out. This team needs guys on the way up.

Breeland signed a 3yr/$24Mil deal with Carolina last year & then didn't pass his physical so was negated. I'd like to see GB offer him (at most) 4yr/$30Mil before FA starts. After that he'll listen to anyone who might miss-out on a top FA CB and are willing to overpay Breeland.

Alexander likes pairing with him so would definitely be an asset. I love the T. Williams was able to slide to Safety for a few games and keep things somewhat normal after HaHa left but his $4.75Mil cap savings can be better used on starter rather than his flexibility/depth.

The Packers definitely need an upgrade over Williams at free safety.

Would like to get Free Safety candidates: Adderley (Herb's distant grand nephew), Thornhill, Gardner-Johnson, Savage, Redwine or Tell III on day 2 or early 3.

kinda hope so. he's better than most back there on this team, not old, not so expensive. better is better though. if they can find someone better it's a good thing.

I have shared it elsewhere he is the most desired FA re-sign in quite awhile for me. Quick bullet points:

-Dude is YOUNG still
-Produced in the time he was in, and many would say still wasn't 100% right at first
-Jaire loves him, and seems the whole unit does
-He provides more to our secondary than Tramon can at this point (whose contract will need cut to justify)
-IF King's health never comes around, we MUST have that #2 option at CB he is supposed to be...
-Best case if he re-signs we have 3 true studs if King becomes what all hoped...worst case we have 2 bonafide CBs that could start anywhere with him an JA
-Honestly, his desire to stay and past injuries I foresee $6.5-$7.5Million a year for 3 or 4 years is possible.

The deal he lost with Carolina last offseason was 3/24/10. I would guess that he would want to get back that, or something close to it. Is he worth 7-8M? Perhaps, in our defense with the premium on CB play.

Cutting Tramon nets 4.75M against the cap. So that would cover more than half of the cost of retaining Breeland.

I do think that Alexander, King, Breeland, Jackson, and Brown could make for a nice unit.

I’d walk away from Tramon unless it’s a 1 yr deal south of 3M. Isn’t he a grandfather now?

I’d go after Breeland as long as he’s reasonable. If offer him a 3yr deal in the 5.5-6.5M nnual range depending on his guaranteed etc..

In my opinion the Packers need to add a veteran free safety this offseason with Amos being my favorite.

Williams is under contract for the 2019 season at a cap hit of $6.375 million. The Packers would save a total of $4.75 million of cap space by releasing him before March 15.

With the backloaded contracts our freshly minted FA acquisitions signed, we at the very least have enough cap space to resign Breeland. These are the contracts that can give you the most ROI given that Breeland's market value has been hampered by last year's failed physical. Imo he could really turn out to be as much as a steal for us as Hayward was for the Chargers and drastically outperform his contract with respect to the money he is gonna get.

Furthermore, not resigning Bashaud will result in a position group which was finally stable last year into a question mark yet again. Which would probably require Gute to end up drafting a corner fairly early YET AGAIN.

I'd make him a respectable offer of 25m over 3 years as I would like to see it done ASAP. With a little crafty contract design we would still be able to either sign Ingram or resign Mo (both will roughly get 3.5 - 4.5m a year imo) and sign our rookie FA class.

Resigning Breeland would also allow us to cut Williams and make room to possibly sign both Ingram and Mo. You've been on a roll Gute, but nail this last one for me please!

Pack just spent 44 million per year on 4 free agents. Looks like Graham will have to go if Breeland is going to stay. No way can the Packers rely on Kevin King, so it looks like Breeland must be signed or the secondary will be a problem. I think Jackson can be moved to safety and Williams can be let go to help pay for the spending spree.

Maybe Doctors found a cure for King's glass shoulders and Gute is content with King, Alexander, Jackson and Brown? Natrell Jamerson is listed as a CB, but he was a S at Wisconsin and I just don't see him making an impact, even if he makes the final 53.

Might have to cut Tramon and save $4.75M to resign Breeland, but well worth it. I loved Tramon, but his better days are behind him I believe and his switch to S was just meh.

It will make some heads explode, but apparently the Pack really likes CB Greedy Williams. I doubt they go that direction, I know there are other players they are likely to be enamored with. We arent used to picking 12th and we are looking at players at talent levels we haven't seen in some time.

Surprised that no teams seem to be pursuing him as a FA.
I thought the same thing, when he joined us he played really solid. Furthermore it is not as if the FA market is flush with quality corners.

I wouldnt understand going CB at all, even if we were to miss out on Breeland. I would also love to know where you picked that tidbit of information up
