Breeland to Chiefs

Reports indicate that Bashaud Breeland was waived by the Vikings today after a verbal altercation. I'm not sure exactly what happened and I know that he seems to have struggled this year with Minnesota, but if there's a chance he could be as productive as he was with the Packers before he went to the Chiefs, I'm bringing him in immediately to get a look.

With Alexander possibly being on the cusp of returning and the depth chart currently including Stokes, Douglas, King and Sullivan I don't think it's necessary to bring in Breeland.

I'd argue if at minimum, Breeland added is only going to make us better and insure King and Sullivan most likely hardly used. Imagine a defense where Rasul and Breeland are your #3 and #4 guys......talk about a push run!

The roster also has Isaac Yiadom on it so I would be okay with it. Of course it depends on his attitude. But most head cases can suck it up for 7 weeks or so. Getting cut sinks in hard when they realize the loss of earnings.

IF the Packers actually liked Breeland as a player on and off the field when he was in Green Bay and didn't keep him due to cost, I would be all in on paying him vet min. for the rest of the season. You can never have too many quality CB's and at the rate we are losing players and with what Covid is doing, who knows where we will be after next week or after the NFCCG for that matter. Teams like the Ravens and Buccaneers are probably wanting him too.

I couldn’t believe we let him go in the first place. He played really solid for us. I’m not sure where he’s at now either mentally or physically though. Good CB are hard to find and in high demand. They often take years to develop, so when you get one mid-career, you bend over backwards to keep them.

The more I read about his latest altercation in the Vikings locker room… and some of the other things i’ve seen and heard in the past. I think it is highly unlikely that the Packers will have any interest. He really seems like the kind of guy that no one really wants to see coming through the door.

He was fine here, and at a minimum salary its a easy no brainer sign and cut instantly if screws up. Many of the guys here he shared a room with then - I bet Gute has a pulse on that and if he feels it would not be received well he will not consider it for a moment.

We/ you don’t know that. He was a good performer on the field but the Packers made no attempt to bring him back. He eventually signed elsewhere for a lot less money than many predicted. Even back then I remember rumblings that there was more to the story and that the Packers really had no interest in bringing him back. That was a time when the Packers really needed cornerbacks…

What I meant and how deep you read into it were different things, I should have said it appeared nothing was an issue here as nothing ever was even hinted at such. Like I said, if there is or was an issue - with so many folks still here from when he was here - I assume Gute is very aware of how it would be received.

According to PFR Breeland allowed an opposing passer rating of 109.0 on 88 targets with the Vikings this season, which isn't an upgrade over King and Sullivan. With reports about him being a distraction in the locker room it might be smart to pass on signing him.

Yiadom plays on most special teams units while Breeland doesn't offer a whole lot in that area. As I don't consider him an upgrade over King and Sullivan at this point in his career there's no need to bring him in in my opinion.

He was a kick returner in Washington and here. Don't know if he can also do punts but he may settle the KR spot.

I highly doubt Breeland would be an upgrade as he hasn't returned a single kickoff since 2018 and wasn't very successful doing it in the first place. As far as I can tell he has never returned a punt.

You're fully aware that most players signed after being released from another team during the season don't end up having an impact like Douglas.

Well aware. Whitney Mercilus was going to be basically a worthless piece of crap at the end of the bench for us before his injury. :)

I'm partly just giving you a hard time. I view this addition as the same as Rasul, Menet or others signings to the PS and bottom of roster, churn churn churn - new scenery or system is all some guys need for it to CLICK.

I did not realize they signed Menet (Penn St.). He was a day3 guy for me that I liked better than Van Lanen.

The difference with Breeland being that he was already with the Packers but the team decided to let him walk away.

Arizona is signing Breeland. We may get to see him in the Playoffs. Sounds like he tested positive for Covid on arrival.

Didn't matter, they were the better team that night - Packers sucked, but Cardinals figured out a way to lose somehow as the Packers haven't deservedly won a single game as I've been taught by some here.

:whistling:
As I saw on Twitter from either a Bear, Viking or Lion fan...."the Packers are the loved team in the NFC North, so twice a year they get all the bogus calls". I had to respond to the person, "if that was the case, wouldn't it be 6 games a season?"

The Packers have had their share of both favorable and unfavorable calls, fans just notice the unfavorable calls when they happen to their team.
