Here is the example. Clay Matthews clearly tackling Kaepernick out of bounds (illegal):

What made the play dirty was then slamming Kaepernick's upper body to the ground. Matthews is an immensely talented player, who can absolutely control how he takes down a QB. He was trying to send a message.

Sorry El Guapo. That was just Mr. Matthews showing Colin where he would be sitting since he refused to stand for our national anthem. Illegal hit? Look again.

We could spend all day pointing out "sportsmanship" and examples of unsportsmanship, but the point is, both happen...even with Clay Matthews (see video below). Plays like the hit on on Jordy are a part of football and if you want to label every guy who is on the giving end a cheap shot artist and an SOB, then the NFL is full of them, intentionally or unintentionally.

http://www.si.com/nfl/video/2015/01...s-crushed-packers-clay-matthews-illegal-block

Or, like you said earlier, only the non Packers are cheap shot artists when they make a hit like like.

You could probably pull up a dozen hits in every game where someone hits harder than they need to. One that I see a lot is a receiver laying on the ground after making a catch and the defender dives into him. Not illegally but certainly unnecessarily. A simple touch of the hand would suffice but no, the defender has to dive in not only risking injury to the other player but himself. There are plenty of plays made by defenders that are unnecessary but not illegal or dirty and to be honest I'm guessing we are going to start seeing more and more of them called as the NFL tries to get "safer"

My opinion, the Hall hit was unnecessary and perhaps illegal according to the rules. I have yet to see a good shot of the play, either stills or a clip that allows me a good look because every time I try to play a clip my computer skips about a second of the actual hit every single time. I watch the same clip 10 times and it jumps in the exact same spot every time, anyway I don't think it was intentionally so and I wouldn't call it dirty. I'm also guessing many of those complaining would see it differently had it been Morgan Burnett laying the same hit on OBJ

We will never know his intent.

However, IF you look at the position he is in in the picture that's floating around in this thread of the hit, his shoulder pads is supporting his helmet. The position of his arms indicate that he was using his shoulder pads by supporting his helmet and stabilizing his neck before impact. Its clear, however, that his intent seemed to have wanted to knock him out of bounds; tackling was not, he would have his arms in the 'bear hug' position if he wanted to tackle Nelson. Classic fundamentals of tackling, you know 101. Now going back to shoulder pads supporting his helmet sans neck. All indications point to a hit that was meant to cause devastating consequences. Whether it was conscious or sub conscious we won't know.

In any case Nelson is out and Arod will have to call State farm and file a claim.

Disclaimer: Devastating consequences does not mean he wanted Nelson out with a season/career ending injury. It means results that could be a dropped ball, caught out of bounds, etc to help the Giants and their "boot wearing on boat" crew.

OK I heard all the whining during the game and it sounded to me at the time like some people with their ******* in a bunch because one of our players got injured. Finally saw it on U-tube.... are you kidding me? This is what all the drama is about?? It's football, its a contact sport. This wasnt a shot to the head or a career ender to the knees. Jordy went up to make a catch and he paid the price. Maybe the guy will get fined because of the "outrage" but I don't see it. It was just another football play. Unless we're moving to 2 hand touch this is a total non issue.

You got a link or quote?

ETA: Found them:

"We're going to try to get this one and hopefully get him back if he can't play this week."

"He's been a warrior all season," Rodgers said. "I don't think he's missed a practice hardly all season. Different without him out there, but we're hopeful he's going to be able to heal quickly and be able to go."

I don't read those comments as hinting one way or the other personally, but he didn't participate in practice at all yesterday, and there's quite a gulf between not even being at practice and playing in a game. Still... fingers crossed.

Yeah, it sounds more like Rodgers is preparing to play without him, which is prudent considering that's a likely possibility.

You're not supposed to attack a player with the crown of your helmet, especially a receiver in a defenseless position. It is against the rules. It is dangerous for the receiver. It is very dangerous for the person making the hit. The league needs to enforce its rules. In fact, it should go further and make every attack with the helmet a penalty, period. Violaters should face suspension. The hits on the Dolphins quarterback were ridiculous. Any Packer who 'tackles' that way should also draw a penalty, face a fine and suspension.

There is a right way and a wrong way to tackle. Spearing somebody with your helmet is the wrong way and for good reason.

There is a reason that helmet makers put a warning label in their helmets:

While I don't think Hall was intentionally trying to hurt Jordy. He was in violation of the rules & his hit was very dangerous to both Jordy & himself.

I would be surprised if he plays... that being said... I don't know why people keep talking about whether or not he practiced..... McCarthy said on MONDAY that Nelson would not practice this week until MAYBE Saturday. He said that IF Jordy could practice on Saturday a decision about his playing on Sunday would be made at that time. Therefore his nkt practicing so far this week tells us nothing more than we knew on Monday.

At this point missing practice for Jordy (maybe other wr or postions) isn't a huge deal.

Not saying he will play, but not practicing won't affect his timing.

His helmet was the first thing to hit him and it wasn't accidental, jordy was pretty much stationary, sitting duck. Hall saw that hit the moment the ball left Rodgers hands.

Seriously, have you watched the play?

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-...lson-gets-shaken-up-attempting-sideline-catch

Yes, it was a hard hit and probably should have been flagged, but you are making way more out of this than there really is. Had Jordy not suffered an injury, this play goes unnoticed.

Any of you owning the mini replica helmets will know there is a similar sticker on that too.

Well if there is someone who needs a warning about wearing one of those mini helmets, they have issues far beyond what just a blow to the head could cause. ;)

After effect of my last mission trip to the Borneo jungle. Witch doctor put some potion in a drink. The world has seemed much larger since and all my ball caps sit lower on my ears now.

I hear they are very popular in New Guinea and a few other South Pacific islands.

Really? Jordy doesn't peak at the defenders and catches it clean, he ducks the hit and maybe scores. He stayed exposed because he butter-fingered the catch after he glanced away.

Again, Lacerated spleen, 2 broken ribs and a punctured lung. That happens in football all of the time? Yeah right!
