Once the details of Rodgers deal is official I'll be sure to update the OP of this thread...and no doubt a few more trickle contract changes and potentially the addition of Adams under a tag.

Seems like it will be last second before everything shakes out, how much more cap has to be cut by Tuesday?

I may be wrong, but I believe the new league year begins Wed. at 3PM CDT, which is when all teams need to be under the cap. AR & Gute still haven't figured-out how to structure an AR extension so that AR gets his $$ AND GB doesn't get burned when AR decides to retire. Wednesday afternoon could be an insane flurry of activity?

Preston Smith deal reportedly drops his hit to $14M in 2022. Amending original post.

Further reports claiming $8M may have been saved in Preston's deal. Going to leave it at the $5M on the OP until confirmation happens.

The Packers have released Za'Darius Smith and Billy Turner, saving $18.6 million of cap space in the process.

I think Jenkins starts at RT. He’s going to be getting OT money. Might as well move him there. Still got Royce and Runyan at OG.

I for one am very happy Turner is gone. Not a good player.

Jenkins cannot play atm, nor will be able to majority of this season.

Looks like currently we are $13M over. Depending on the Rodgers deal we might be at the mark.

Just cut Cobb and Lewis already and get it over with.

Cutting Lewis would not be a smart move with literally zero experience behind him, and he truly isn't that expensive honestly. I concur with cutting Cobb or he needs to take a massive pay cut to stay on active roster.

Crosby cutting saves more than Lewis and if we are doing sub $2M area cuts for savings I'd much rather see Crosby walk.

We could cut Lewis right now, resign him and save money.

I do not believe that is possible given the way his void year money would be treated - even if he came back on league minimum cost would be nearly a wash if not cost us more. Not taking the time to run the scenario and confirm, but let me know if you run the figures with dead money and such...it would make more sense to restructure or even extend him in a fashion it stays a one year deal essentially.

Glad they found a way to keep Preston, I think he and Gary are going to make some noise.

If we cut Lewis right now we save 2.4M. Resigning him would cost 1.1M.

That didn't sound right so checked. This isn't true his dead cap even if cut is $1.575M - his 2022 cap hit for the year is $2.445M

You save less than $1M cutting him ($870,000 to be exact).

So if you cut him it costs us $1.575 + then sign him to a 1.5M - Lewis's cost for the 2022 year would be more than his original 2022 cap hit before cutting.

Billy is the first "might be casualty cut" you and I have discussed. You take this as a nod like I do to the belief in house that Yosh can and will start at RT?

I fully expect the Packers to retain Nijman and have him compete for the starting job at right tackle. At this point it's anybody's guess if he ends up winning it.

I think Jenkins starts at RT. He’s going to be getting OT money. Might as well move him there. Still got Royce and Runyan at OG.

Unfortunately Jenkins won't be healthy at the start of the season.

Here's to the possibility of yours and mine favorite OT around our pick at #28 the Austrian beast Raimann.

It's a good thing Rodgers made his decision so quickly and signed his new contract. Gives the Packers plenty of time to work things out with Davante and get all the other deals done before Wed. You know, now that they have their 2 main pieces set.

OP is updated with all confirmed news so far from today - Preston extended, Turner cut and Z cut

The Turner cut along with Jenkins injury and most likely departure of Lucas Patrick in free agency makes OL slide higher than it was previous on the need chart. It may not have overtaken another position group, but it definitely is slightly more of a need now than before - especially if for some reason we don't tender Yosh (which would be insane as he is a ERFA)
