Where are all the Davante Adams haters now ?

I won’t lie, I’ve always looked at Adams as a very very good #2 Wr. I just always have thought he couldn’t perform at a high level against the top corners in the game. If he can have these type of games against Marcus Peterson, Stefon Gilmore, Xavier Rhodes, and Patrick Peterson then I’ll drink all the kool aid ...and not half the glass.

Adams had eight receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown while being covered by Rhodes in week 2 this season. He's definitely at least a decent #1 receiver.

Davante has shown that he will most certainly live up to the contract he rightfully received late last year.

I know there are different circumstances and things of the like, but just to throw it out there, these are the three guys that have been universally recognized by many as the top three wide receivers in the game:

2018 stats -

Julio - 707 yards - 44 receptions - 69 targets - 0 TDs - 16.1 yards/catch
Odell - 506 yards - 45 receptions - 69 targets - 1 TD - 11.2 yards/catch
A.B. - 478 yards - 40 receptions - 72 targets - 6 TDs - 12.0 yards/catch

Davante - 557 yards - 47 receptions - 71 targets - 6 TDs - 11.9 yards/catch

Julio is gaining a ton of yards, but doesn't have the red zone production. Odell's getting the receptions, but not a whole lot else (in his defense, he's got Eli throwing him the ball...definitely taking that into consideration), A.B. has the TDs, low yardage compared to others, and even low reception numbers. And yes, he gets a ton of attention from defenses.

But you look at Davante's production, and it's right on par with the big boys. I know he has Rodgers throwing him the ball, but lets be clear: this offense has been FAR from a well oiled machine this far. And there's no other big time threat to take attention off of Davante especially in the past couple of weeks. Jimmy is definitely helping with some of that.

When this offense gets in a groove and takes off....

I am gonna take your word for it with these numbers. But these stats pretty much end the argument about him being/not being a #1 receiver. Big Ben last I heard leads the league in passing yards so far this season (may wanna fact check that) so if people can say Adams has a hobbled Rodgers throwing to him, you can just as easily say Antonio Brown has Big Ben throwing to him and nullify that point.

It's true that Roethlisberger is leading the league in passing yards this season. Rodgers currently ranks second in that category.

Big Ben leads the league with 2,033 yards. Funny enough, a hobbled Aaron Rodgers is a close second with 1,997.

edit: capt beat me to it.

But real talk, St. Brown and MVS are the REAL deal. I know its been said on this forum already but its true. I personally was very impressed with St. Brown having the composure and awareness to catch ball, make sure both feet were down, and fall out of bounds on that last drive. Stuff like that in a HIGH pressure, fast paced time of the game is a really good sign. Plus it seems like Aaron trusts them already. We know how he can be with newbies. But he was seeking them out.

St. Brown's catch was impressive but in my opinion it's premature to consider him the real deal. MVS seems to be farther ahead in his development.

For whatever reason, Julio Jones has become the anti-Chris Carter about whom Buddy Ryan famously said, "All he does is catch touchdowns".

Early in the season you were in the shout box proclaiming he was not even a number 2. I remember it well because right after that he made multiple plays including a TD. But that is okay because it is just your nature to be negative about everything non Rodgers related.

Edit: my apologies, I dug up the posts in the shout box thread and you were calling him a good number two. 30 seconds later he scored a touchdown and I made the joke that he wasn’t even a #2.

Yea, I’m glad you did the research.. because now I don’t have to dispute that, and prove I’ve NEVER said that.

That’s why I emphasized “this type of game”.....i’m not ready to put him up there with Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, and Deandre Hopkins yet...he’s a notch below those guys along with OBJ and AJ Green.

I'll say this: Gutekunst seems to have hit the 2018 draft out of the park.

It's still very early, but I'm loving some of the return we're already seeing.

I agree that Adams isn't one of only few elite players at the position in the league but he's definitely a true #1 wide receiver.

I was one of the guys calling for him to get the axe a few years ago. He was horrible, and look like he didn't belong in the league. But credit the kid. Through hard work determination and perseverance he's turned himself into an outstanding receiver.

I think in his 2nd year I was wondering if he was any good. No doubts anymore. He is mentally tough, so quick at the line of scrimmage and I love the way he catches the ball. Great balance too. Love the guy.

Sorry, I can't hate on Davante right now. I'm hording all my hate and intend to us it for one massive burst of negative energy waves directed toward Green Bay on December 3oth at 17:30 that will result in MM being fired.

These "hindsight is 20/20 and look how wrong you were" posts aren't annoying at ALL.

Never disliked Adams the way some did, but if you're objective about it, there was a time when he had a lot of drops and wasn't very reliable. Glad he got better and glad the team stuck with him. But my god, grow up.

No they are a necessary response to all of the hysteric knee jerk reactions on here and other Sports boards.

They are back in 2015. That experience has taught me patience. But players usually don't go from being that bad to actually being good.

or maybe it’s a worthwhile post to make some of us think. I was very critical of Adams during his struggling period. I was wrong. That experience has taught me to be a little more open minded regarding players and coaches. I am not at all offended that this has been brought up.
Good point. I loved it when they drafted Adams. His college tape was great and I noticed he didn’t hesitate to reach out for the ball, rather than waiting for it to come to him. In his second pro year, I thought he spent too much time complaining to the refs and not enough time focusing on the next play. At that point, I wondered if he would make it, but by his third season, it seemed he kind of grew up and just got the job done. I don’t recall a lot of complaints about him becasue Jordy was the clear #1. I don’t need to wait for him to play against better secondaries to know he’s one of the top 5 receivers in the league. I can also understand why some people would have questioned if that day would ever come. But it has and he is a great, although underrated WR in the NFL.
