Seem to recall this...I know who it is. A great Def performance that was unexpected

I have no clue. At first i'm thinking a division team because of a home and away to get to 4 and had a playoff game against each other late in the previous season. Bears 2010

I was on board with the general concept, but then I saw this and need an explanation - how does a home-and-away result in four games?

Since definitions have become so important elsewhere, just wanted to make sure we're talking about games that counted - just regular season and playoff games?

it doesn't LOL

Maybe 2 games in the new year unless it's a late season game week 17 and then a playoff game to end one season and then get a preseason game and their home and away. But how often do we play a division game in the preseason?

Fairly certain it isn't a division opponent. Has to be I'd imagine a late after new years playoff game, pre-season, regular season and than a playoff game again before new year? For some reason the Seahawks jumped to my mind.

Could be the 49ers in same scenario as above?

I really want to check history but I'll play along. Those are my two guesses. Playoff game, preseason, regular season and early wildcard game before new year one year

They jumped to my mind too, and I know we had a playoff game, and a season opener against them, but I have trouble seeing us past 4 games at best with them, not 5.

Great question Poppa. I’d off hand have to think it was Detroit during the Favre and Sanders years.

Trick question. "One calendar year" instead of "one season". So I'm guessing the answer involves playing against a team in Week 17 in January, playing them in the playoffs, and playing them in the following season twice in the same calendar year. So probably the Bears in 2010, since we did play them in Week 17 and the NFCCG. Wait, that's only 4 times, not 5.

I just now noticed it is 5 not 4...I have no clue I was thinking the 90s' time we played Detroit in playoffs in january, twice in season and then the rare wildcard week before new years that same year. That would have been only 4...and unless we for some reason played them in pre-season (which I don't think you ever play divisional teams do you?).

That would be my guess also. I remember the playoff game where the Packers shut down Barry Sanders in a WC game on December 31 and that would be three. If the previous season ended in early January and the Packers & Lions played in the WC game it would be five. Trying to channel my inner rainman here but it ain't working.

Nailed it.
First WC was the Favre to Sharp rainbow. Second WC on NY eve was the shutting down of Barry Sanders for negative yardage. Both WC games are linked in the favorite games thread.

Even a blind hog finds an acorn every once in a while.
The Barry Sanders negative yardage playoff game just sticks in my memory and I remember going out for New Years eve after the game. I also remember being less than enthusiastic that the Packers played the Lions in the playoffs two years in a row. Sometimes it pays to old. Didn't Favre have a similar play at the end of the regular season to Sharpe before the Favre to Sharpe rainbow in the playoffs?
