I'm sure this won't be popular and may get me in trouble... but I'm just going to state this once. Too much moderation does not lead to a thriving forum.

Where have you been moderated exactly ?

I think as a team we are more than fair, but that is just my opinion. We don't come down heavy unless it`s necessary, and then we give you a chance to make your point.

I haven't noticed it being really noticeable on this form. It's mostly just moving posts and funneling to certain threads, but as far as I can tell the content is mostly left alone. That said, over moderation can be a thing and it's not good. I was on a guitar forum once and a couple moderators used to re-write posts for people. I think they changed dang to darn once and put their little stamp that it was edited by a moderator at the bottom. I didn't stay long

I haven't been. Never said I had been. I respect the moderators here as well as most of the other posters. However, I do get annoyed at times when moderators start steering the normal course of conversation in what seems to me to be a very arbitrary and capricious manner. The thread about Blake Martinez was simply closed because a Mod did not like the fact that it had strayed a bit off topic. Problem is most threads here do.... but we do not close them all. All I am saying is unless a thread starts getting abusive etc... This forum would be much better off with less interference.

Is this thing on?

My hats off to the mods, they do a thankless job very well. I think once in awhile and this is just my opinion, threads get locked down a bit too quickly because someone may perceive them to be either getting off topic or into a similar topic from another thread. I get it, trying to keep a tidy and orderly board, but sometimes you just have to let a thread keep flowing.....on track or off.

We try to keep threads on track so it`s easier for people to find and follow. One of my biggest crimes on here is actually tending to veer off track joking around, and I`m sure it drives the others crazy. I understand what you are saying but when we have to read through all this stuff behind the scenes, it can drive you barmy.

I haven't had any problems with any of the mods on here. i'm sure most know i'm borderline troll with a hint of humor and a pinch of sarcasm. all in gist.

personally I like the order in here. if there weren't working Mods this place would be another forum with people attacking each other, everyone arguing, no substance, etc.

The days of people respecting each other in forums is long gone. That was back in Win 95, AOL, dial up era.

Another thing we find, which I think PB has just covered there is some people love being the one who starts a thread, but doesn`t bother to check that there is already a thread going. Next thing we know there are four or five on the same subject, so we have to merge them.

I get that and I do it it too.....but......that is the fun of it. We can be having a nice discussion about Aaron Rodgers and it rekindles someone's thoughts about Brett Favre. The thread may veer off for awhile but eventually it gets back on track. Sure, there is a lot of repeated stuff from what could be found in a old Favre thread, but it was probably brought up because it was a thought that the Rodgers thread invoked in someone.

This place is far to big to think that you need or can have one and only one thread for a subject, ideas are going to cross over.

Wait......you read through all this stuff behind the scenes? *Gets out my edit pen fast*

THAT, I understand. Merging of common ideas. But shutting a thread down because it veered off track for a bit, that I think should be a wait and see thing. Just my opinion.

One of my personal pet hates, and I hate it with a passion is some poor guy who comes on here with an opinion, usually a new member, and somebody tries to belittle him. He goes away and never has an opinion again, or is too bothered to ever say something for fear of being belittled. Drives me nuts. Thankfully it doesn`t happen these days, but it was one of the reasons I took the job.

I can`t and won`t speak for the others, it`s not my place, but we are all different and see things differently, and yet I think it works quite well, so.........******** :D Only joking !

Would agree about the Martinez thread. It was at least a thread for people who may've wanted to add something about Blake. They went off track in the thread, but if someone had something about Blake to talk about, they would've still posted there and people would have still responded even if the convo wasn't currently on him. Now a new thread will have to be made if anyone wants to add anything. Now thread consolidation and abuse deletion... that's alllll good work.

And I am in complete agreement with you there... that to me, is the reason a forum needs mods. I do appreciate the hard work that the mods do, I am only saying that the free flow of information should not be censored unless it is truly necessary. Nobody should be acting in abusive manner toward others in here and when it happens the Mods are very necessary. But I do think that too much emphasis is placed on maintenance and thread organization. Frankly by midweek, I have usually read everything possible on this forum. I really think this forum could grow bigger with a little less organization lol. I'm not sure why redundancy is such a terrible thing, I have never seen a forum where that has been as big of an issue as it is here. If we are worried about server space... cost ... I can understand that. But if it is simply housecleaning ... I'm not sure why it is so important.

I think the closing of threads is based on opinion myself.

There are times as mods we don't do anything until we discuss with other mods and come to a conclusion.

To close/merge a thread is not needed to get other opinions unless it's a very odd instance.

It is true threads get derailed and we do nothing. Most of those times threads were already in place for a while and probably the original topic was beaten to death.

I went back to the Blake thread, and it took a turn with in 14? Posts.. Half way thru the 1st page and was derailed.

On top of it, it was the Nfccg that derailed it. That topic is so far debated and over with. No need to keep beating that horse on a single player thread that wasn't on the team.

We also lock in hopes others figure it out and not to do same thing.

In your opinion there was no need.. This is exactly the attitude I am talking about and the attitude that will drive people away. I may even agree with you, but that shouldn't matter. It is very off putting to have somebody tell us what we may and may not talk about. You have all the power... how you choose to use it will determine how the forum goes.

If it makes anyone feel any better I was done with adding anymore along those lines. I think in a rookie season Martinez showed as much early in as Ryan did later his rookie year, but has since been dealing with injuries and hasn't looked as good. I'm excited for his future.

I'm taking this thread in moderation back to Martinez! Who's with me :)

My opinion there was no need? Lost me?

I said to lock a thread we normally don't discuss with others on to lock or not to lock.

With that said, I am agreeing with locking that thread for the reasons I gave
