I'm sure this won't be popular and may get me in trouble... but I'm just going to state this once. Too much moderation does not lead to a thriving forum.
I haven't been. Never said I had been. I respect the moderators here as well as most of the other posters. However, I do get annoyed at times when moderators start steering the normal course of conversation in what seems to me to be a very arbitrary and capricious manner. The thread about Blake Martinez was simply closed because a Mod did not like the fact that it had strayed a bit off topic. Problem is most threads here do.... but we do not close them all. All I am saying is unless a thread starts getting abusive etc... This forum would be much better off with less interference.Where have you been moderated exactly ?

We try to keep threads on track so it`s easier for people to find and follow. One of my biggest crimes on here is actually tending to veer off track joking around, and I`m sure it drives the others crazy. I understand what you are saying but when we have to read through all this stuff behind the scenes, it can drive you barmy.

Another thing we find, which I think PB has just covered there is some people love being the one who starts a thread, but doesn`t bother to check that there is already a thread going. Next thing we know there are four or five on the same subject, so we have to merge them.
And I am in complete agreement with you there... that to me, is the reason a forum needs mods. I do appreciate the hard work that the mods do, I am only saying that the free flow of information should not be censored unless it is truly necessary. Nobody should be acting in abusive manner toward others in here and when it happens the Mods are very necessary. But I do think that too much emphasis is placed on maintenance and thread organization. Frankly by midweek, I have usually read everything possible on this forum. I really think this forum could grow bigger with a little less organization lol. I'm not sure why redundancy is such a terrible thing, I have never seen a forum where that has been as big of an issue as it is here. If we are worried about server space... cost ... I can understand that. But if it is simply housecleaning ... I'm not sure why it is so important. One of my personal pet hates, and I hate it with a passion is some poor guy who comes on here with an opinion, usually a new member, and somebody tries to belittle him. He goes away and never has an opinion again, or is too bothered to ever say something for fear of being belittled. Drives me nuts. Thankfully it doesn`t happen these days, but it was one of the reasons I took the job.
In your opinion there was no need.. This is exactly the attitude I am talking about and the attitude that will drive people away. I may even agree with you, but that shouldn't matter. It is very off putting to have somebody tell us what we may and may not talk about. You have all the power... how you choose to use it will determine how the forum goes.I think the closing of threads is based on opinion myself.
There are times as mods we don't do anything until we discuss with other mods and come to a conclusion.
To close/merge a thread is not needed to get other opinions unless it's a very odd instance.
It is true threads get derailed and we do nothing. Most of those times threads were already in place for a while and probably the original topic was beaten to death.
I went back to the Blake thread, and it took a turn with in 14? Posts.. Half way thru the 1st page and was derailed.
On top of it, it was the Nfccg that derailed it. That topic is so far debated and over with. No need to keep beating that horse on a single player thread that wasn't on the team.
We also lock in hopes others figure it out and not to do same thing.

If it makes anyone feel any better I was done with adding anymore along those lines. I think in a rookie season Martinez showed as much early in as Ryan did later his rookie year, but has since been dealing with injuries and hasn't looked as good. I'm excited for his future.
I'm taking this thread in moderation back to Martinez! Who's with me
