State of our former QB, Aaron Rodgers

After watching the Jets vs Patriots last night, I couldn’t help but catch myself rooting for #12. It was great to see him Win, but moreover It’s a testimony to how hard he worked himself back from that Achilles.

My favorite moments were..
-Allen Lazard catching Aaron’s 1st TD pass in NY.
-The look on Robert Saleh’s face said it all. He waited a long time for that type dominant game. He had apparently told #12 to get him a 2-score lead for his Defense. Those type things were few and far between with Zach.
-The dime TD throw to Garret Wilson at the Pylon
-Oddly, the 45 yard miss by Zuerlein because It reminded me that even good, veteran Kickers do miss those.

Did anyone else watch..or have thoughts on the Jets or Aaron’s first complete game in NY??

Lazard looked his former self. Not dominant, but he’s developed into a solid weapon. Call him a WR2. Good compliment for that team.

Call me whatever but I really don't care for this type of stuff. I know its a joke and it is somewhat clearly stated but the idea of what is possible with AI is honestly quite frightening to me. We've already seen what can be done without acknowledging that it is AI. You know someone isn't going to bother to read the disclaimer and pass this on as fact. The internet is already full of BS and this just adds to it.

That said I do understand its intent and it is kind of funny.

I don't know when I called it, but it was before the season was over.....Sounds like there is a good chance that the Packers will see Aaron back in Green Bay this season.....wearing purple!

It is all still speculation on the internet at this point, but the Vikings would be stupid not to sign Rodgers in my opinion. Do they really think that JJ McCarthy is ready or more importantly, the guy they want leading a team that just went 14-3? Rodgers offers them an instant FHOF QB and one that might mentor JJ for a season or 2. I doubt Rodgers gets more than $30-40M/year and he would be playing with a lot of weapons and maybe more importantly for a 41 year old, indoors for home games.

Much like Favre, Rodgers would probably love to play the Packers twice a year and stick it to them anytime that he has a chance. I hope it doesn't happen, but would be kind of surprised if it didn't.

That's true.... I watched every Jets game I could get, and he had pretty much the worst year of his career last year, all in all. He was a shadow of his old self at the start of the year; he clearly had not fully recovered from the injury (and you never really do fully recover from an Achilles anyway, especially when you're a senior citizen), and his game was very limited. His footwork, which had once been so pretty to watch, was slow, no spring in his step... he couldn't bounce up on his toes, because the tendon supposedly healed "tight".

He couldn't step into a throw the way he used to; whereas he was once one of the best there ever was at throwing a pass with his whole body, he had to rely on his arm much more than we were used to seeing. And of course, when you miss an entire season at his age, you're going to be mentally and physically rusty. His timing, his pocket awareness was off, and he wasn't as nimble at making pass rushers miss.

But he was still Aaron Rodgers, and crafty enough to find ways around his limitations. But, he was inconsistent. He had 7 games with a QB rating of over 100, but in between it was often in the 70s, once even 44. He still finished with 3900 yards, 28 TDs and 11 INTs, which for a lot of quarterbacks would be a career year.

What I worry about is that last year, he was protected by a bottom half offensive line - but the Vikings were a Top 10 O line, and they probably got a lot better last week. That's going to compensate for an awful lot of his limitations, and Aaron Jones and the WR corps are going to help tremendously.

There are a couple of ways it could go... on the one hand, he was terribly inconsistent last year, and it's possible that with another year under his belt, that will be even worse. But if he works that out, he could make that club a very dangerous team. Not a Super Bowl team (because there's no way a 42-year old Rodgers wins 3 playoff games in a row), but very dangerous on any given Sunday.

Favre's first year with the Violet and Yellow - particularly in the game at Lambeau. As much as I have a distaste for what Rodgers had become as a man at the end of his run here - #12 can still wing a football if the Jets put a line in front of him. I really don't want to see him back at Lambeau. Adrenaline is a funny thing

Was totally thinking the same thing. The Vikings have a much better team than the 2024 Jets as well. There's something to be said about winning and the energy that brings to players. Rodgers loves to win and if the Vikings get on a roll and he is playing QB, watch out.

Put it this way, as a Packer fan, I would prefer Rodgers is playing for the Steelers and the Vikings opt to start JJ McCarthy.

The whole JJ McCarthy conversation is so odd to me. Honestly, it feels like in some ways his “reputation” has benefited from being injured and not playing - nobody’s really seen anything from him (good or bad).

But all offseason long (and even throughout last season) we would hear people talking about how the Vikings shouldn’t sign QB X or bring back Darnold cuz they’ve got JJ waiting in the wings. And it feels like somehow but not playing he’s morphed into a higher-rated prospect than he actually was at the time he was drafted.

Like, I feel like heading into the draft he was seen as a good, not great prospect. But now the conversation at times makes it sound like they’d drafted the next Andrew Luck and would be silly to look anywhere else. And that was before suffering a major injury! Whole thing feels so funny to me. I’m pretty confident if Minnesota didn’t have a QB and JJ was in this year’s draft class and they had to choose between drafting McCarthy or signing Rodgers for a year or two there wouldn’t be much debate. But idk. Odd situation like I said

I saw an interview with Favre recently, and he said Rodgers should go to Minnesota. I don't really care where he goes myself, I really think he should retire. But if he goes to Pittsburgh, that's the team that always wins those polls of who has the best fans.

I hope Rodgers goes to Minnesota. He seemed to behave himself the first season in NY, so maybe he would for 1 yr in Minny. But I think it more likely his act will again cause all sorts of issues.

I think Thomlin in Pittsburgh may get a bunch more out of him and keep him in check better. Minnesota coaches are very good but they are young. AR will think he knows better and will undermine the development of their young QB. I doubt Minny has any interest.
