Many other forums have discontinued shoutbox variations as they are not counted as forum traffic and so discouraged and the content routed to forums.

But here, it looks likely that content maybe lost rather than moved to forum, so not sure if discontinuing shoutbox will have a positive impact.

It does have its uses and I like using it on game days.

If the issue is that the traffic isn't counted because it's not being posted in a thread, I for one would be willing to "pay" for using the Shoutbox by making a token post in a thread somewhere. Would a post saying "test" count, or does it count more if there are full paragraphs? If there was a sticky requesting that someone make a post in a game day thread when using the Shoutbox, I bet people would be happy to do it.

Does the shoutbox traffic not get counted in site visits like a thread post? Are you looking at fluffing the eyeball numbers to raise the rent?

Ha ha, no rent raise here. I'm just used to seeing game threads end up with 600 to 1000 posts during game days. Really like seeing that as it shows how active the forum is. When I went into the game thread on game day, not one post was made during it. Just was shocked to see that but didn't realize everyone posted in the shout box.

I think it's "worse" with the night games. The games end late so people post in the Shoutbox and then go to bed. With the afternoon games, people are more likely to stick around afterward and discuss.

A lot of discussion though is in chat. Eventually it moves to the studs/duds type threads. The game thread is more of a preview type thing.
