You realize the TV clock is not the official game clock. I think it is on a stopwatch the umpire or whichever ref position is responsible for delay of the game calls carries. Usually is close enough though.

I would imagine the TV clock is synced up pretty damn close if not spot on.

But then what if you're down by 1 point with with the ball on the 1 yard line and 32 seconds on the clock and you take 3 false starts to kill off the clock before eventually kicking a 33 yard game winner?

That would only work for the first 10 second run off since the clock stops on a penalty with 5 minutes left to go in the 4th quarter (or 2 minutes in the first half) and then doesn't start again until the ball is snapped. If the clock is already stopped, there is no 10 second run off.

Also, since this rule only applies if the clock is running, why wouldn't the offense just let the clock run down to 5 seconds and spike the ball to stop the clock before kicking the field goal?
