Preseason game 3 - at Denver

I want to watch Brice and a couple of our 2nd year D line players. Also, the backup center. At least he played some center last game. It is tough to get a handle on all of the players' names. For one thing there are a lot of them and then we get the homers from the other teams calling the games and they hardly ever give the Packers' names.
If I lived in the Packer market I'd turn down the TV sound and turn on the local radio broadcast. Do people still have radios, cars excepted? ;)

Other than a couple of bits here and there, that Redskin broadcast crew was pretty dreadful. Theismann is almost as bad as Collinsworth. You've got to listen to a lot random yapping all game to extract a couple of insights.

My dad used to do that every single game. It's one of the reasons why I still love the "AND THERE'S THE DAGGER"

I guess now I'll be looking closely at Murphy playing RT. Of course a new starter is going to have some bumps in the road, but it would not surprise me if he is the long term answer at RT. He fell to the 6th after being injured, but most analysis of him pre-draft figured he was a starting caliber prospect.
Well, he's going to have to step it up. Everybody seems to have noticed that Spriggs has played poorly, but they have not seemed to notice that Murphy has not been much better. Maybe playing next to an accomplished vet will do him some good.

Playing with the starters might help, but the problem is, Murphy will most likely be playing against the #1's of the Denver Defense. That is the biggest disappointment in the backups on the O-line, they are getting whipped by other backups. You are correct though, I haven't noticed Murphy too much and that is normally a sign that an O-lineman is doing his job. I guess I have been so distracted watching Spriggs, Gray and McCray getting beat its stimulation overload. How has Patrick looked?

Wayne and Rock do a nice job. I'm only getting replays of their broadcasts on NFL Game Pass.

I have not lived in the Packer market since Ray Scott handled all Packer games.

Scott mastered a few simple principles: short, sweet, to the point, no phony dramatics, and if you're not sure what you've seen put a plug in it until you are. If Scott got excited you'd know there was something to get excited about.

Radio is about 3-5 seconds ahead of the TV broadcast depending if I am watching OTA or via satellite. Thanks to Janet Jackson's boob shot in the SB. I am not buying a sports radio to eliminate the delay. Is there an app for that? I'd use my phone and ear buds if there is.

I am really curious to see if Josh Hawkins can have a repeat performance against Denver. IMO he looked the best of all the CBs in live action this pre season.

I've been saying Josh Hawkins was gonna be good since they singed him. This is no surprise to me. Some people need to catch up.

You can't believe that. The fact that you said YET is enough in itself.

It seems you don´t realize that a lot of teams around the league have already lost a ton of important players for the 2017 season with the Packers being mostly healthy.

Per an article at the JSOnline this past week, Bakhtiari and some others are not concerned about Spriggs. I sure hope they're right.

There´s no reason for teammates to share concerns about Spriggs with the media. Taking a look at the tape it´s pretty obvious he has struggled mightily and doesn´t seem to be ready to be the primary backup on four spots on the offensive line by any means.

Given Campen's track record with developing guys, I am not ultra concerned about the long term state of the OL.

It´s true that Campen has done an admirable job developing offensive linemen over the past few years but I´m not convinced the current backups are talented enough to turn into decent players at the NFL level.

Collins was an absolute steal. I never did like how that all played out, his agent telling the NFL "Draft La’el in the second or third rounds, or don’t draft him at all." The Cowboys end up with a projected top 20 guy as an UDFA. Wonder what would have happened if someone called their bluff and drafted him in the 7th?

I believe Collins´ agents even admitted after the draft that they wouldn´t have had any other choice than him to sign the contract with the team that selected him.

Well, he's going to have to step it up. Everybody seems to have noticed that Spriggs has played poorly, but they have not seemed to notice that Murphy has not been much better. Maybe playing next to an accomplished vet will do him some good.

I haven´t watched the preseason games closely but got the impression that Murphy performed on a much better level than Spriggs so far.

I still hope there's something mental going on with Spriggs and he can figure it out. LIke he's thinking too much or something. He has the physical tools, but he wouldn't be the first guy with talent to not "get it" and produce on the field. But I hope he gets past whatever it is. It's funny, I see this stuff with dogs all the time. Just about the time you think they''ve got it all together, they go thru a period where they go from doing directed searches and nailing everything with perfection, to forgetting what "sit" means from 2 feet away. It's not that they don't listen or don't try. Because I do see that too, but it's different. Those dogs are off on their own. These dogs are snapping to a heel, going down, crawling, climbing ladders, trying to find something to track, jumping hurdles, doing anything they can to get it right, all the while you're just telling him to sit, the first thing you practically ever taught him and he has no idea what you're asking him to do. and then all of a sudden, bam, it all falls back in line and it's awesome. Or me learning new skills on a guitar. I try something new for a while that is going to expand my abilities and suddenly my fingers miss on a simple C or D chord for a a few days. But in the end I get past it and everything is easier and better. I hope he's just going thru something like that.

Its possible that he's struggling playing at a heavier weight, and that more time and practice reps will get him back up to speed. Here's hoping, and I am actually drinking whiskey at this time of day.

I want to see Marwin Evans and Josh Hawkins continue their level of play. Denver doesn't have much of a passing game but they should keep their starters in through the third quarter so it's a good time to test the young guys and see who shakes out where.

Not to my eye. The pocket has been collapsing like a cheap tent from all angles when the second team has been in there. Murphy did a little better in game 2, but was just as bad a Spriggs in game 1. Spriggs faced off against Philly's first round pick, a pretty impressive dude. I haven't checked the names, but I didn't look like Murphy was drawing any assignments that tough.

An ap? I'm a retired notebook PC/cable internet/landline phone guy. I may be the only person in North America without a cell phone, let alone a smart phone, who could afford to buy one. This from a guy who used to design enterprise software. Go figure...shoemaker's son and all that, I guess.

My wife recently bought an iPad mini for fear of being left behind. I tried to tell her if that's the only reason then she shouldn't worry. When this stuff is being sold to billions of people it gets progressively dumbed down. She's kinda disappointed, actually. "It's not any better, it's just different." No kidding. That Siri...man is she a dumb sh*t. If this is the state of the art speech recognition, good luck with that. My wife leaves it on, goes to bed, and Siri does web searches off of what she hears on the TV, misunderstanding what the actors are saying in the process. I leave it on for comic affect.

A big screen and keyboard, a phone over which people can actually hear what I'm saying, and avoidance of needless distractions when I'm out and about or on the golf course. "We arranged to meet at X time and I'll be there then" sends the message "I expect the same from you." That's mantra #1. "You know how to reach me...leave a message or send an email." That's mantra #2. Guess what? The people that matter to me adapt; they still know the "old school" ways.

Still waiting, hoping, praying to see something out of Matthews to justify giving him a spot on this years roster. Sorry I'm not stuck in 2010.

Taking a look at the Packers depth chart at outside linebacker it's ludicrous to suggest Matthews doesn't deserve a roster spot. There's no doubt I would be in favor of restructuring his contract though.

Honestly I think we could get his "production" out of damn near anybody. Absolutely 100% not impressed with clay Matthews at this point in his career.

For my money, Capers needs to figure out a way to use him. He still has a motor. He just cannot simply line up against a good tackle all game long. Capers needs to be creative with him. Is that a contradiction of terms (name)?

Keep liking them both, just don't be surprised when you end up with the same results

There's always a holy grail out there. You can spend your money looking for it, or try to get the best of what you have. And we have good. I have enough trust in Clay and Cobb.

So it's pretty easy to say "this player sucks and this player should go", but if you are going to make that argument, you also need to tell us who replaces them and their production? I'm not disagreeing that both Matthews and somewhat Cobb are not earning their contracts, but who takes their spots without the loss of production? We aren't fighting the cap, so the cap and really their salaries at this point aren't high on my checklist as negatives for both Cobb and Mathews still being on the team.
