Not sure what you are renegotiating. He has base salaries of 10M the next 3 years so everything on the cap hit is guaranteed money. There is nothing to renegotiate to drive down the dead money hit. Unless you ask Love to give money back and well.. that's not happening.

So.. not sure what is being renegotiated that will result in there not being massive cap hits the next few years.
I guess wishful thinking

The Packers really only had one full season from Love before signing him to the big contract. He had 30 TD passes that year with a 96 passer rating. Tonight he certainly didn’t play like an elite QB. He accuracy was poor and he finished with a passer rating of 41. We are spoiled after Favre and Rodgers so it‘s tough to be stuck with such a highly paid QB who’s play is a big downgrade from what we’ve had.
This kid Daniels looked farther ahead on the curve than Love tonight.

I feel like last year it was really easy to feel good about how everything ended and feel confident that we’d be back and better next year. I really don’t feel that after this season.
I knew it was a huge missed opportunity last season blowing the game to the 49ers. You cannot assume you will be better the next season.

So much for us being the playoff team that no one wanted to face. Against anybody else today, Philly might be heading home.
Did anyone actually say that? I don't know why the Lions/Vikings/Eagles wouldn't want to face a team they were 5-0 against.

If anything, the Commanders are the team no one wants to face. They showed they can beat the Eagles, and they know how to win close games (9-4 in one possession games).

By the time we are drafting the good DL prospects are gone. I don't want Gute reaching there.
Other teams find good ones later in the draft..the Packers draft projects. They also refuse to sign a free agent dlineman..unless they can get them for nothing

Watching that game I was thinking the same thing. All I'll say in Love's defense is that it seemed he had very few receivers open all night. No one was getting separation. But Daniels plays with confidence, Love does not.

So for all the talk about how good the young receivers are (and that's true), there isn't a #1 WR. Reed has a chance to one day become that guy, maybe Doubs, outside chance it's Watson. And I really hope Doubs is gonna be ok. That looked like a nasty concussion last night. Anyway, I think Gluten has to look for a veteran WR is FA.

As far as the Philly game, Brown and Smith were mostly absent, so a great D can work some magic. And GB played great on D.

It's frustrating though and especially after the way last season ended. Gluten has a number of areas to address - CB, Edge rusher, WR, OL depth, DL. That's a lot more than I would have said before this season started (OK, we probably knew corner was gonna be weak).

That's a fair assessment. I don't recall hearing it. And you nailed the reasons why. Green Bay didn't scare anyone worth being scared.

Yes, but I'll be surprised if the Rams beat MN tomorrow. Washington looks pretty good so far tonight.
I watched Washington a few times this year. Last night they looked like a very good team. Daniels has amazing calm for a rookie QB.

I feel differently. We have the makings of a nice defense. Get some secondary help and another pass rusher and it will be fun to watch.

We have the RB and TEs. Improve the OL and get receivers who will go and get passes that aren't perfect or contested we are in pretty good shape.
Just my opinion - and it's easy to say now I admit - the Packers played above their pay grade last season, and played a little less than expected this year. The biggest disappointment was the steps back the offense took, especially Love and the WRs. Jacobs was a huge hit for the good. Kraft was exceptional.

I knew the CB group was gonna need offseason help and the Edge rushers. Now add to that a veteran WR, OL depth, and better players on the DL and Gluten's job gets more difficult. But hey the D played well last night. Conditions on the offense are more concerning than I thought going into the season.

I agree on the Defense, Hafley getting another FA, and Draft to get more guys for his system, will improve the Defense even more. The sky is not falling!!!
The sky is not falling, agree. This is still a team filled with young guys. Use FA to add some more veteran help, and try to get 2 draft picks on D as starters (CB and Edge). It's a talented and young team and they will get better.

Love's play is a concern though. Or rather, it's his on-field body language. He has very little energy on the field or on the bench. Get him a reliable WR and he may be ok.

In all fairness, the Packers haven't had a ton of cap room through the years, and TT was more about signing his own guys. Under Gute, he has shown that he is willing to spend, since taking over, and this year he has quite a bit of $$$ available.

“Get some secondary help and another pass rusher”

Those were needs the last 2 years. Instead, in the 1st they took a project DL and an OL who was hurt almost his entire rookie season, both of which have contributed almost nothing.

People say, “we just need a #1 WR, a high end pass rusher, some corners, and some depth on both lines” like that’s such an easy ask. This roster obviously isn’t as good as we hoped and we have a lot of holes to fill. It probably isn’t a 1 year project to do it.

Good points. Prefacing a long list of needs with "just" is an oxymoron. Maybe I've been fooling myself, but I honestly thought that just beefing up the CB group was most of what was needed in the offseason. The loss to Philly ripped off the bandage and exposed a needs list of OL depth, a legit #1 and #2 WR, Edge rushers, DL talent. That list can't be prefaced with "just".

If Gluten is able to fix the CB group as he did the S group, and he finds a legit #1 veteran WR I'll be pretty happy. Those two things might have resulted in an extra two, maybe three wins this season.

If Edge rusher, OL depth, and DL help can be addressed, all the better. It's probably gonna have to be through the draft. There is only so much cap space. But stronger CB and WR groups will take this team farther next season. And Love has to wake up.

Which OL was hurt almost his entire rookie season?

With where we are drafting you aren't gonna get the top pass rushers. Those guys are long gone by the second half of the first round.

Jordan Morgan played in 6 games and started 1 this season.

Lukas Van Ness was drafted #13.
Rashan Gary was drafted #12.

Daniels is a much better prospect than Love ever was. Daniels is a Heisman winner and the second overall pick. Love was a late first round/early second round prospect. Considering where we usually draft I don't blame Gute for going for him. Unless we stink like Washington did the chances of us getting a QB like Daniels is nil. Love is never going to be an elite QB like Daniels will most likely become but we can win with Jordan.

You can get pass rushers without picking early. You just have to do a better job drafting and developing than the Packers have with their pass rushers.

The funny thing is, a team like the queens always seem to be up against the cap, yet still find ways to add 4 or 5 decent free agents every year. If they truly wanted to add some decent players, there are ways to do it. Rodgers and bahks cap hits haven't helped. Hopefully this year, they finally add a decent dt!

Except one of the DTs they already have is eating up a big chunk of the cap

And that player has only played one year of a 4 year deal. He got $17.5 million out of the $64 million out front. Cutting him loose, based on his contract it would cost nearly $27 mill against the cap for 2025. I'm assuming you're referring to Clark.

The Packers took a pass on TJ Watt for cornerback sensation Kevin King. Remember him?

I think one of the problems with the Packers' draft policy is taking players from big, winning schools - notably Alabama and Georgia. These guys are surrounded by other great players, making them all look very good.

That hasn't worked well. Wyatt and Walker came from Georgia (I think) and have been underwhelming considering their pre-draft hype. Haha Clinton-Dix played at Alabama I think. Except for his strange name he'd be completely forgotten.

Drafting players who will do well in the NFL is one tough job. Overall, I'd say Gluten and TT before him had better luck in later rounds. I don't have stats to back that up, it's just an observation.

There’s a LOT of great pass rushers in the NFL that weren’t drafted high in the 1st or even the 1st.
