I actually went down to see that game. Decent weather for December. Nice parking complex, comfortable seats, and hospitable fans. Packers seemed to wish they could have the week off. Like going to work when you do not feel like it.

Yes, the year after the SB. We get derailed by a wild card. A 15-1 season made it looked like a Dynasty was coming. The Giants showed all of us what defense was that year. And they did get lucky against the Pats.
That was a very fun season, until it wasn't. About as much fun as you can have without winning it all. I guess the Giants had to show us what defense was though, because GB sure didn't have one.
The Giants! Damn they beat us in an NFCCG in GB as well. Favre was still QB and threw one of his game-killing INTs, I think in OT. It was very cold and the Giants prevailed and won the SB. Tom Coughlin's nose looked like it needed to be amputated it was so damn cold.
Yes, it was about minus 3 at kickoff. It felt colder. Giants missed several FGs before they finally hit the one. They stopped our run game and we could not get anyone free over the middle. A roughing the passer penalty on Nick Collins as well as a holding penalty on Al Harris killed us in the 2nd half. GMen even fumbled their own INT that we recovered. Then they fumbled a punt near midfield in the last 2 minutes but we did everything but land on it. That could have and should have been the winner for us.

It's strange how you can go from having a top five defense and winning the SB one year, to dead last in defense the next.
It was so cold that I did not think the kicker could send it that far even with a golf club. He said his toes were badly bruised after the game. In the 1996 playoffs Chris Jacke kicked 3 FGs. It was about plus 2 at kickoff but the wind chill had it about 7 below. But I remember Jacke tried a 46 yarder in the first quarter that fell short. So I said no way could anyone generate enough 15 years later. But he did.
That is a mystery, but it does happen. After the Rams won the SB with Stafford, the whole team tanked the following year. Detroit got a lot of draft picks for Stafford, and those became high picks after the Rams tanked. I seem to recall at least one year where they had multiple, high first round picks.
It must be brutal to kick a ball in that weather, like kicking a big rock. And for some reason, the ball gets slippery in very cold weather. I didn't think the Giants' kicker was going to make that one, but he did. We've enjoyed a lot of very good football, especially someone as old as me who can remember Lombardi's Packers. There's gonna be some heartache along the way too. The 70s and 80s were lost decades in Packer lore, but we stuck with em - well, most of the time......

Lions O line is tremendous. And Goff is playing at a high level. We can slow down many offenses. Very hard to stop them. We need at least one more big body LB and another DL. You need to spell some of these guys or you will wear down in the 4th quarter. Even when we were in the right position on the field they just plain blocked us.
