It'd be giving up potentially an insane amount....a potential answer for them at QB...a young first rounder with two years to figure things out in LVN and if healthy an all pro CB....before we even get to picks.

HOWEVER, Love is who our seasons are hitched to right now, Myles presence instantly lessons LVN usage anyways and Jaire is likely gone already....

It's a deal where I could easily argue is too much and too little - and make a solid case, which makes me think it is likely about right.

I certainly don't think he is preventing us from doing anything. We, and everyone else, knows we can't rely on him. But his upside is tremendous. I don't agree that "bodies" are more important than that.

Sorry but when you make a player the highest paid at his position, it limits your ability to go out and get another player like that. Until he is gone, we won't have a top CB unless we luck into one via the draft.

It's all but a certainty it's draft or nothing.

Who's going to let a a top-tier cornerback reach free agency, or cut them, unless they are some kind of risk? The only reason anyone is floating cutting or trading JA is because of his injury history. In other words, he's a risk.

Honestly injury stuff happens and sucks but for me I think the relationship is gone…I called it with Davante and argued with Captain he was getting my traded a ton.

I suspect unless Jaire and Gute reach a restructure and have a long sit down this is all done

I don't think the relationship is that broken, but I'm also not going to pretend his return is certain. That wasn't the issue I was addressing in any case.

My point is more that the only (likely) way we are ever going to get a top-tier cornerback with ability similar to a healthy JA is via the draft. If you have a healthy cornerback of that ability, you don't let them make it FA. They are, imho, the second rarest player other than franchise quarterback.

Oh I concur it is very rare a no doubt CB1 hits the market. Now you can find CB1s every now and then in FA but it is far from a sure thing.

I highly recommend Ken Ingalls packer cap site. He gives an good explanation of why a Garrett trade isn't happening. The browns just can't do it cap wise. Already 38 million over the cap right now the dead money from trading Garrett would be another 37 million. Don't see how they could do it.

Problem is with Garrett going massively public with his desires I don't see the Browns being able NOT to trade him. Yes fiscally they HATE it, but I don't see them working around it.

It is rather unlikely the Browns have the room to make this move, however they could make room. Depending on the picks offered, they could play contract games to create room elsewhere. Unsure if it would be enough or not, but it is theoretically possible.

They could also trade him after June 1st. There is no such thing as designating a trade post-June-1 . To get the benefits of trading a player after June 1st, you actually have to trade them after June 1.

Of course if that happens, the price probably goes up--the Browns can't immediately draft a body to replace Garrett and they are taking slightly more risk. They won't know any of the draft orders in 2026 or 2027, compared to at least knowing where everyone is picking in 2025.

Kinda getting a feeling, he'd agree to a team friendly deal. He's 32 now and 33 middle of coming season. Yeah, he may get some higher offers...but I feels he's looking for a stable and comfortable role that can get the best of what can still offer and Packers/MLF are it.

Good grief the Browns outlook is bleak. DeShaun Watsons cap hit is $72M this year. Maybe they can restructure him. Restructure Ward? Cut the 5 or 6 guys who will save cap space if you cut them? Replace them with minimum rookie FAs? Yuck. Don't blame Garrett for wanting out.

It's honestly worse that you might realize. They all but have to let him Finish out is contract. His remaining years are 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028, though 27 and 28 void years, so really only 2 years remaining.

If they cut him now, the dead cap hit is 172.7 million. If they cut him after his season, his dead cap hit would be 99.8 million for 2026. The 2027 dead cap for the void years is 26.9 million, which finally isn't too bad.

To restructure him, they'd have to add on years to his deal, but he's now a terrible quarterback. I presume they're working on ways to get out of some/all of that cap hit so they can cut him early.

I despise saying this but I would completely understand this type of thought process and approach. I love Doubs' story and humble approach to games, but this might be the best practice, he's been good enough but not a world beater that he's likely the type of guy GB doesn't resign (we saw this with Lazard and MVS which I'd say both were notch below Doubs)...

I predict Adams is only going to be in one of three spots next year - Jets if Rodgers stays and they rework his deal....the Chargers due to closer to home proximity just like Raiders were...or he closes out his career back in GB for one to three years here.

Slayton is a guy I really like the idea of, and I'm very curious how much he's going to garner. Bringing in both him and Adams while also resigning McManus will chew up a ton of that cap space we have (although a release or trade of Jaire brings some back)....Likely that would remove a Mack signing but Gute could really like what he sees in edge defenders this year draft wise who knows.

Piggybacking somewhat on this discussion as it was going in another thread too...Two more names maybe come to mind?

First we know the Rams will be looking to trade Cooper Kupp. He is definitely not any long-term solution (32) and has big injury concerns, with 12, 12, and 9 games played in the last three seasons. But, in spite of that, when he plays he is still very effective. 800+ yards and 6TD in 9 games in 2022, 700+ yards and 5TD in 12 games in 2023; 700+ yards and 6TD last season.
(For some frame of reference, our leading WR this year was Jayden Reed with ~850 yards and 6TD in 17 games / 10 "starts")
I could see a case for it but I guess it would really depend on the numbers. I wouldn't want to give up much there.

A second option that I have heard floated about a lot, but nothing confirmed, is the idea that Seattle would be willing to move DK Metcalf to free up cap space. This is where perhaps moving a guy like Doubs could be intriguing. As has been discussed we really can't realistically expect to keep all our current guys around; on top of that we need to improve the WR room and it does make some sense to move a guy if he has trade value (in such a way that improves you) rather than losing them for free. I have seen trade valuations all over the place on this one, some as high as expecting a 1st (I don't think that is realistic), some saying a 2nd-rd pick straight up, or others have proposed a player plus a pick, like Doubs and a 3/4 or something like that. Metcalf will command a good salary but he'd certainly be a more "proven" guy than anyone in our current room. 1000+ yards in 3/6 seasons...and 900+ in the other 3/6. And 7, 10, 12, 6, 8, 5 TD.... BUT, all that said, maybe reading too much into it, but he (Metcalf) did recently say that "Massachusetts isn't a desirable place in my opinion. Great organization though." Maybe that is a polite way of just saying he's not interested in New England, but maybe he is wanting to move to a bigger media market or something too. I think it's not unreasonable to say that for a lot of players Green Bay is not a super attractive location to live either, regardless of organization (I don't share that opinion, lol, but i get it)

I guess we'll have to see how much Slayton would cost. I would not shy away at all from dafting d line even if he stays. I mean I would not make it a lower priority as far as draft round.

The Slayton mentioned in previous posts, I believe, is WR Darius Slayton from NYG. Spotrac estimates he'll garner a 2yr, $31mil deal in free agency.
