Their secondary ranked out in the top 5 last year if I remember correct. It actually might have been 3rd only behind Denver and NE. Hayward graded out high so his loss will hurt but hopefully Randall and Rollins maturing and Shields staying healthy could make up for that. They have built a top tier secondary with Burnett and Dix at safety. Crazy considering they have lost House, Hayward and Williams in the past two off seasons.

It´s true that PFF had the Packers secondary ranked as the third best in the league last season. I agree it´s amazing that the team still possesses one of the best cornerback groups in the league after losing several players over the last two offseasons although there are some question marks about the depth at the position as well as at safety.

lol at Casey Hayward being our best CB.... PFF is so odd.

Anyways, I love our corners and our secondary is nice as hell.

Yeah the depth is a question mark. Hyde helps because he can play multiple positions and Gunter seems like he could play if needed. But if we have a couple injuries it could be rough

One thing I love about the secondary is our starting safeties. Burnett and Dix give me much more confidence than other safeties in recent years. I am also hoping an improved pass rush with clay playing more olb will help.

Outside depth our pass defense weakness if obviously lb coverage. If Martinez can even be average that will help a lot

Remember when the Packers drafted Ahmad Carroll in the 1st and Joey Thomas in the 3rd? That was supposed to fix a secondary. Glad this one looks better

It´s true that spending early round picks on a position improves the chances of adding an impact player but there aren´t any guarantees. Randall and Rollins both seem to be capable of playing at a high level in the NFL.

As well as in 1999 when the Packers used their first three picks on cornerbacks Antuan Edwards, Fred Vinson and Mike McKenzie. Didn´t work out as planned either.

Hey 1 out of 3 aint bad...

That is so rough to see. That was the reaction draft to Randy Moss and the Vikings passing game.

McKenzie turned out pretty well for a third round pick. And don´t forget that the Packers traded Vinson to the Seahawks in exchange for Ahman Green.

McKenzie was great value for a 3rd round pick in my mind. The Vinson deal was such a steal for the Packers. Edwards had some injury issue but just never panned out.

For perspective it's important to remember that we drafted CBs with our first three picks in 1999 because Randy Moss emerged in 1998 and torched the Packers. It was an uncharacteristic knee-jerk reaction by Ron Wolf, but understandable. Neither Vinson nor Edwards panned out but at least we got something in return for Vinson. McKenzie was the star we needed for the 4-5 years that he was here.

Not really a big deal, but related to our secondary... I heard Rollins dislocated a finger and that it pierced the skin, so he may be out a month or two.

The biggest concern for me this season is their youth. The 'sophomore jinx' is nothing more than teams having a 'book' and plenty of film on guys like Randall and Rollins. We'll see if they have their struggles this year.

I think in a year or two this will be one of the two best secondaries in the league. Randell made a believer out of me and I've loved Rollins since before we drafted him.

With expected progression from those two and assuming Shields doesn't fall off that will be a damn right scary Nickel package worth of CBs being backed up by a good Saftey in Burnett and another that I think has a chance to make the jump to Pro Bowl level this year in Dix.

Perhaps I like Dix more than some but from what I've seen he's pretty close to making that jump and think hes only going to be givin more freedom to roam going into his 3rd season with 3 good to really good CBs in front of him.

Depth is always a concern but if Hyde, even though he under whelmed last year, is your 5th CB and 3rd Saftey you're in alot better shape than most teams as few teams are going to be rolling out even solid rotational guys at both those spots

My only concern is Damarious Randall's off field lifestyle. I really hope this kid is taking everything seriously.

We won a super bowl with Charlie Peprah filling in at safety. Our depth will be challenged at many positions as in every season. Hopefully all of the right pieces will fall together.

Our secondary is definitely a good reason to be excited for the season.

According to several sources he should be ready for training camp though.

Geez, Randall was driving a car when a passenger was arrested for possession of marijuana. Not a big deal, let it go.

Turned into Ahman Green and McKenzie. Definitely not as planned but end result was very good. Two very good players out of three back end of round picks is a winner in my view. I'd take that ratio every year.

As an Arkansas fan, I was adamantly opposed to GB drafting Carroll. He was a PI flag magnet well before the NFL.

The problem is that other NFC teams have improved since then, not that we haven't been able to make due with what we have. Seattle, Carolina, Arizona, and SF of a few years ago could shut a team down while having the talent to hang a lot of points on them, while we haven't had that threat since 2010.

I'm sure the defensive unit will be good to very good this year, but not great, and without a coach to elevate their effectiveness during crucial moments, I will always be skeptical. I'm always a fan, but not necessarily of the talent procurement or coaching.
