Only 4 more games and we are rid of Jimmy Graham

yup. that decision hurts.
as for graham it hasn't worked out. too much money being the main problem. health. it's not like the Packers (rodgers) use the tight end much anyway. football wise it hasn't been a big deal. favre loved using the tight end position. rodgers not so much. he's always looked beyond TE's. maybe next year as MLF installs more of his offense.

Now you're making stuff up just to take a shot at Rodgers.

He has been the quarterback during five of the eight best seasons (based on the number of receptions) for a tight end in Packers history.

Targets and receptions have been every bit as much to tight ends with Rodgers as Favre. He just chooses to ignore it so he can beat his drum.

Graham will still receive a parting gift of $3.7M (2020 Dead Cap Money).

I kept thinking to myself yesterday..."Why is he even playing"? But he does make a few catches.

Graham keeps playing because sadly, he is still "the best" TE that the Packers have. I know lots of people think Tonyan and Sterberger are better, but until they prove it in practice and in games, Jimmy and Mercedes will continue to see most of the snaps at TE....at least until this season is over.

I unfortunately think he is playing so much because of the money we gave him. I wish that he would stay on the sidelines, not all game, but several series. To see what we have. After all, most say he is really not much of a blocker. And our other guys can get open on those little flat catches.

Funny how quiet @gbgary gets when his BS narratives are debunked.

I highly doubt its due to the money that he has already been paid, that is a sunk cost. The other TE's are getting a chance, but haven't done much to prove themselves worthy enough to limit Grahams snaps. This isn't much different than Allison. Allison makes a lot more money than most of the other WR's and was given a chance to start at the beginning of the season. However, Lazard outplayed him and moved ahead of him on the depth chart.

I don't think the other TEs are getting a real chance unless Graham is sitting down. Like I said, not a lot, but some.

Is Graham really better than Lewis?

I did expect more from Graham, a big body and in his heyday he did have good hands and is on the all time reception list for tight ends, but he has brought very little of that to GB, if he’s no help in the playoff game I’m sure he and the Packers staff know his future will not be in a Packer uniform...

I would think that Grahams future is pretty well decided and it would take a miraculous turn around in the playoffs/Superbowl for him to be wearing Green and Gold next season. That or him agreeing to tear up his remaining one year contract and play for around Vet Min ;)

You just scared the heck out off me because he probably would take minimum because no other team would want him..

I know Packer fans, including myself, are disappointed in Jimmy G and rightfully so. However, for me it was because his performance didn't meet his pay. I think he will be a desired commodity next year by some team, but it will be for Mercedes Lewis type money. Also, wouldn't shock me if he is financially set, to see him retire. I never got the feeling that he was "all in" with the way that he played in Green Bay.

Tonyan and Sternberger haven't proven to present an upgrade over Graham, that's why he's still receiving the majority of snaps at tight end.

I'm saying that I don't think it is much of an opportunity unless he is not on the field. I just don't think The Pack have very much to lose if he sits for several possessions.

Don't get me wrong, Graham definitely hasn't performed up to his contract but he's still the best receiving tight end currently on the roster.

I hope he was just holding back for the money games, of which yesterday was his first as a Packer. If he played that way for his previous 30ish games, we wouldn't have had this discussion.

BTW watch dot #87 blocking on the right end of the line get down the field. From the 45 he escorts DA17 into the endzone. I think this is one reason he was a 3rd round pick.

If Jimmy Graham can turn back the clock even just a little bit and play the way that he played last night, it puts this offense on a completely different level.

To Poppa's point, he made a few absolute money plays last night. If we can get that out of Graham, along with Davante and featuring Jones more out of the backfield (I expect this much more against the 49ers), we have a legitimate chance in Miami.

It almost feels like LaFleur didn't tip his hand much last night. held Jones back in reserve a little bit as a pass catching threat. I think we're going to see him all over the field this Sunday.

I hope Graham has 2 more games being as productive as he was last night. Money catch on that big 3rd down plus a couple other nice plays blocking and pass catching.
