While I agree with you and I don't want to rain on your parade, but I think had Christian McCaffrey been playing, we might have seen more offense from the Panthers. The Packers caught a huge break not having him in on the field.

But yes, Barnes and Martin seem to be a better Combo than Kirksey and anyone else. I'm about done with Oren Burks, he whiffed on his blocking assignment that almost allowed the Panthers to block a punt. Even though he has another year on his contract, I hope to see him replaced next year with better talent.

Barnes was the preferred Mike linebacker before he went down with an injury. It’s clear the Packers want to give more chances to the young inside linebackers and are starting to move away from Christian Kirksey

All I needed to see was P Smith in coverage - that cannot happen..ever. Lowry and Lancaster cannot shed a single team - teams run wild and will continue to do so. There is talent all over the D, but when teams can run at will between the tackles it does not mean a hill of beans.
Unfortunately coverage is part of the OLB job description. Don't always have an extra DB on the field to cover the 3rd TE. Especially when blitzing. LBers have zones to be responsible for.

The Packers definitely lack talent on the defensive line and are inexperienced at inside linebacker. That will result in struggling to defend the run.

This is really the first time they have played together except a very little bit a long time ago. And they looked really good. I'm sure they would have stayed in together if Barnes had not hurt his eye. Actually, after Barnes got hurt, Kirksey tried playing more aggressively. He is just not as good at it. And why does everything have to be absolute? I am not saying we are fixed anywhere. It is just that Kirksey is no kind of answer at all and we should be trying other things. Barnes and Martin had a lot of energy, played well and it was rubbing off on the rest of the D imo.

The Titans with Derrick Henry will be a great test on how well Barnes and Martin actually are defending the run.

True, but there's no reason to line up Preston 10 yards behind the LOS to cover opposing receivers.

We're going to find out if GB's defense can stop the run or not :) I'd rather go down swinging with Kamal and Barnes than the alternatives. Let's just see what the kids can do. They run all over everyone, the challenge facing the GB defense is probably the biggest they'll face all year. We thought the 9er's were a good running team? HA! I think he needs just over 300 yards to break 2000 for the year. I'm hoping they don't let him set the record this weekend.

Preston has actually been playing a little better the past 3 weeks. I don't think it's a stretch to say, he was just loafing it a bit to start. a little puffy around the midsection, a little lazy in the run game etc. To his credit, he's been playing better. I know we haven't been facing offensive juggernauts, but you can see he's playing more like Preston 2019 than the early 2020 version. anyway, i'm not so sure they weren't sending him back in coverage so much as punishment LOL

"Look P, if you're not going to play hard unless it's 3rd and long, you're going to go back in coverage every chance you get to rush the passer until you learn your lesson" LOL

With the caveat that nobody seems to be able to stop him. So I don't think you can come down too ******* them if there are problems. You can't say, see they just can't handle it. Because Henry is just so tough.

As Steven A. Smith would say, "Henry is a Baaaaad Man"! The Packers can't be so overly focused on stopping him that they let Tannehill have a career day. How do they stop him though? Better tackling for sure, if they go in high, they won't get him down. It's going to be a track meet and the Titans defense will give up points. First team to 40 wins. :)

I have to wonder if this isn't a "club to the head" more than a stiff arm. They didn't throw a flag on it.

I thought that was a club to the head and a 15 yard penalty. seemed rather obvious. Headslaps have been illegal for quite a while.

I agree and hope that the league looks at it and puts the refs on notice that it is illegal. The guy is a steam roller as it is, he shouldn't be allowed to club tacklers in the head to boot.

Henry deserves to be suspended for the next game because of that play :sneaky:
I can get behind that :)

Though if this team needs to get punched in the face, I'd rather it happen this week. Not sure it will wake anything up, as they've been punched in the face before and haven't. Maybe it's the 'ol rope a dope until they get to the Super Bowl this year and then they just shut the run down :)

Usually getting punched in the face has been more of a foreshadowing.
But maybe they get that far and something just clicks for them. Not likely, but hey you never know.

That’s what I’m worried about

Ilb is not super, but they move...when they cannot reach the LOS due to 94 and 95 being pushed into them, it makes for hard sledding

adjusting coverages that makes sense is part of the defensive coordinator's description.

I agree that a lack of talent on the defensive line is one of the reasons for the Packers run defense struggling at times.

The inside linebackers not being an above average unit doesn't help either though.

i believe the Packers are a top 10 D right now...as unlikely as it seems. 8th to be exact...in yards/game. 14th in points allowed. 12th in pass %. 11th in rushing. 9th in passing. more...

https://fantasyfootballers.org/nfl-team-defense-stats/

The Packers defense ranks only19th in yards per play allowed and 21st each in opponent passer rating and yards per rushing attempt allowed though.

i wasn't trying to make some kind of point. just posting info and a link for anyone curious.

Same with me, just wanted to point out that on a per play basis the Packers defense isn't as good as their total numbers would suggest.

I'm still seeing a lot of the same stuff. Lack of pressure, getting gashed in the run game, receivers are running around wide open. And this against subpar offenses and quarterbacks.
I'm really tired of seeing celebrations on stopping an offense where the stop was due to a bad pass or a drop while the defender was at least 10 ft away. You didn't stop them guys they stopped themselves.

Probably the best defensive display of the season. Very aggressive, lots of blitzes. Loved it.

We still need a run stopping ILB who doesn't get bounced off at first contact.
