I'm all for moving on from MM, but I don't care for the timing.

So who might be a candidate?

Would you go after a College coach? (Chip Kelly? NIck Saban? Dana Holgorsen?)
Former pro coaches (Jim Harbaugh? Rex Ryan? Tod Haley?)

McDaniels is my first choice hands down. You may not like him, but he's going to make a hell of a head coach. He took tebiw to the playoffs for Christ sake.

Hell no to McDaniels. He ran the Broncos into the ground and is a stupid control freak. He also bailed bad on the Colts.

Do not allow this dumpster fire near 1265.

They didn't want to.. They wanted to be classy. It was talked about after Seattle..

I am trying to find out what changed now
What changed is they lost to a terrible team at home. In December. Against a warm weather team. And against a rookie QB and first year head coach.

Yea but will he actually take the job or do what he did to the Colts leaving them high and dry?

I don't think McDaniels will be on the market. I think Belichick is done soon and when they brought him back and he took back his Colts offer, they told him he'd be in charge as soon as Belichick is done. That is why he backed out with the Colts. Just a feeling. Unless Belichick gives him a talking to about how you will only be able to coach a player like Rodgers once in a lifetime, and you're dumb if you don't take this job.

I wonder if they’re putting consideration into Lincoln Riley

Ppl hate Josh McDaniels, but again... If I'm him, do I take a "starting over " NE roster, or take 5ish years with Rodgers, the prestige of being a Packers coach, and the chance to write his own story?

I live in Indy. The fact he took the offer here was surprising. Wasn't shocked when he backed out as he never really seemed interested, and to be honest, at the time it was with Luck unsure of his ability to qb anymore...ever. Was a bad fit from top to bottom, not even taking the nutjob owner into account.

GB is different, and I think would appeal to him.

There is no way Philbin should even be considered for HC anymore than MM should have been considered to keep the job.

Yup, and while it is unfortunate because he did bring good things to the organization and unfortunately sports is a 'what have you done for me lately' business. People forget what he did when he took over. But I don't know if there was a good timing for this. It is like watching a train crash right now, he knows it is coming, the fans know, everyone knows. After a loss like this, cut ties. It gives the candidates that may be considered a chance to know this job is open. It gives MM a chance to decompress of the stress of knowing you're going to be fired. Let's him have a little Xmas vacation with his family. Doesn't need to travel. It gets him out of the spotlight, off the hot seat, social media won't be calling for his head anymore. Now he can lay low and let the smoke settle. He will land on his feet somewhat, he has money. Never want to see someone lose their job. Never a good time. But rip the bandaid off.

Agreed. Would have like Pettine as interim, but maybe they want to see him keep coaching up this D for rest of year.

OK, so the Packers got rid of a coach that had lost touch with the game. Did not keep up with the times. Same old offense while other teams in the division adapted and surpassed the Packers. And yes, Thompson did Mike and the Packers no favors with his draft picks and personnel moves. By the way, there is no way in hell Philbin gets the head coaching job. He is a McCarthy guy. Ain't going to happen. Rogers got a great birthday gift. I'll bet he and his friends are having a hell of a birthday celebration tonight. I'm confident the Packers will bring in a competent head coach to lead the Packers into he future.

Well. If Rodgers lights it up next 4weeks..then the case of him wanting mm fired is stronger

The decision was Murphy’s, he’s the boss. I do hope they let Gluten lead the search and ultimately make the decision on the next HC. And it’s time for Murphy’s silly org chart to pass. HC and Russ Ball should report to Gluten. I’m happy MM is gone. I thought they would let him finish the season. But he gets paid through next year unless he gets a gig. He’d be a fit for Cleveland, but I don’t think Dorsey and Wolf will hire him. We shall see.......

Tony Dungy is visibly shook by the McCarthy firing. “You just don’t do that to a SB winning coach in the middle of the season". GTFOOH!
