Matthew Stafford and the Lions looked just terrible tonight, Lion fans were booing before halftime. If the Lions weren't a Packer rival, I might feel sorry for them but Boo-Yah!!

Someone told me today that they think the Packers are the 3rd best team in their division because the Lions are good. I’m going to have a fun chat with him tomorrow. I’m gonna try to make him cry.

If anybody needs a winner in the survival pool, you can probably pick a loser off my week 2 prediction list when it comes up and do alright. I'm not sure I could have had a worst week 1. The way it was going I almost wanted to go back and pick the Bears, just so I could be assured the Packers would win. But I didn't, so I know I got at least 1 right.

Pick your one rock solid, take it to the bank, Katy bar the door, bet the farm winner per week.
Pick each team once for the season.
Must play every week.
You're wrong or miss and you are outta here.

What a stupid contest! It’s going to be over by October 1. Reminds me of last years NCAA tournament. Threw my bracket in the garbage can before I left work on Thursday.

It's sad when you're waiting to hear whether or not Aaron Rodgers is playing on Sunday before determining which team you're going to select for week 2. :D

Tough to pick against my guys though. Give me the Saints (here's to hoping I'm eliminated).

Let's hope it happens to me too! Super Bowl Champion Packers picking 1st over all in the 2019 draft. ;)

That brings up a good history question(s).
  1. Has the Super Bowl winner ever held the #1 pick in the next draft?
  2. Has a future (unknown final value) pick been traded away and it turned into the #1 pick in the draft?

The closest I found was the Redskins who won the Super Bowl in 1992 and with the 4th pick in the draft, took Desmond Howard. Oddly enough, the Redskins got that pick by trading a bunch of picks away to leapfrog the Packers who had the 5th pick, for fear that the Packers wanted Howard. The Packers ended up taking Terrell "Chump Change" Buckley. :(

Of course that was draft day trading. I think your research and my gut are right in that no Super Bowl Winner was sitting there before draft day with the #1 pick in the draft.

1. The last time an NFL champion had the first overall pick the following year was in 1952 when the Los Angeles Rams were awarded a lottery bonus pick and selected QB Bill Wade.

2. That has actually happened twice since the merger.

In March of 1978 the 49ers traded their first round pick to the Bills for O.J. Simpson which ended up being the first overall selection in'79 with Buffalo selecting LB Tom Cousineau.

The Buccaneers traded their first round selection in the 1984 draft to the Bengals for QB Jack Thompson in June '83. Cincinnati ended up with the first overall pick in that draft but traded it to the Patriots in April with them ending up picking WR Irving Fryar.
