The part I don’t get is this. Why would any ILB wait for the RB to come to him past the goal line in a goal line stand? That makes absolutely zero sense.

Ive been saying this about Blake all season. He plays prevent defense on most of his downs. Watch Joe average at his position when its most likely a run play, they creep up to the los. Blake nope, he stands 7 yards back on obvious run plays, waits for the RB to get the ball, at this point the TE has already bee lined at him or since he is out of position, he can make the open field tackle 7 yards downfield. This is why he leads the league in tackles.

Agreed. I made the comment to a buddy during the game "Is Blake's only job to Spy on the QB, because if it is, he is not even doing that job well". Seems like Blake is lined up on almost every play to "defend a large island".; The problem is, he isn't that quick and usually pushed off the spot he needs to be at to defend that island and as you stated, even if he is successful, its a 7 yard gain.
