I remember Jace being a bit of a clown in college so this behavior doesn't surprise me. But he's definitely entering bust territory. But like somebody said I hope hitting rock bottom might turn him around, I'd hate for him to be released and he turn into an All-Pro for the Texans.

This is what he said

He didn't make any excuses and actually went to rehab, so my guess is LaFleur isn't quite done with him yet. But he's going to need to make up for it with stellar on the field play for sure
Well it's good if he decided to go into rehab. If his problem with alcohol is that serious, we should have a little sympathy for him if he wants to make things right.

I hope for his sake and ours this is a pretty strong wake up call and he gets it in order. It's good he acknowledged it

He was a no show at practice yesterday I read...
Well, if he has a real problem with alcohol, and I don't know that he does but he made a comment leaning that way, his best option now is a month in rehab, in time to join TC. I feel bad for him if he does have a substance problem. Been there. But if it's real and he's asked for help, well that's the best start possible to get healthy.

Yeah hopefully he doesn't but if he doesn't and he's not at rehab then where is he? From what I recall the incident happened a long time ago...

He never did show last week. I would think if he did go to rehab the organization would have said something, as they did with Favre many years ago.

Yeah just not a good look for a guy trying to hope to even make the final 53

I wonder if the Packers saw what JS was and thought "whoops". Better draft a back up plan in Deguara and get Tonyan to re-sign. Hope he turns it around, but he is looking like a wasted draft pick.

Deguara is not in any way shape or form the same type TE as Sternberger. Josiah fits MLF system incredibly well and entirely different than Stern.

Ty, Deguara is more the HB/TE hybrid, right? I didn't see enough of him last year to remember. Eventually Lewis is gonna retire, and I think Josh targets that slot. And no, that's nowhere near the type of TE Sternberger would be.

I never said they were the same. I was getting at that they saw what they had in JS and thought maybe they should be ready to move on from him. Bring in a different TE and sure, why not one that fits their system better.

I agree with you Nick.

I wonder if he is back this week?, If so i'm pulling for him.
By 3:00 CST today, the Green Bay Packers either have to add him to the 53-man roster or cut him.

With Deguara suffering a concussion against the Saints and not being active last night, they may want to keep him. However, carrying 5 TE's would be kind of silly, so the Packers may have to decide between Dafney or Jace

Daffney primarily lines up at fullback something I don't think Strenberger can do

If I recall correctly, Jace whiffed badly on a few blocks in the preseason and really isn't known as a great blocker. I think that will hurt his chances of being kept. They may just let him go and if nobody picks him up, put him on the PS.

What exactly can Sternberger do that's exceptional?

He isn't fast, he isn't a savvy route runner, he's not a good in-line blocker, he isn't a good move blocker... what are you supposed to do with him?

If Jace is so unexceptional, why did Gute waste a 3rd round pick on him? I agree he has shown very little and is a classic bust, but he must've had some talent. I hope he gets back on the practice squad to get one more chance. It's a sore spot to give up on a high draft pick.

That's a shame - I had high hopes for him.

He flashed, but couldn't stay on the field.

I hope Deguara doesn't suffer the same fate.

In college he was named as a semi finalists for the nation's top TE. He was first team SEC and a first team consensus All-American. He tied his schools TD record for a TE as well. I remember him being compared to Gronk when he was coming out of college. There was a lot to like about him. That's what Gute saw in him and they were also looking for a TE at the time. He does have yet to prove that he does anything exceptional in the NFL, but his college career speaks for itself. The emergence of Tonyan has been nice and also shows that maybe we give Sternberger a little more time to develop.

With Deguara out, and looking awfully injury prone, I bet he suits up and we deactivate a WR. I don't think Deguara will be ready this week and should free up a spot to give Sternberger a chance. No reason to have 7 WRs on the active roster anyway.

After this I am done explaining our TEs. Dafney is the ONLY TE on the roster equipped to be or serve in the Dequara role. Sternberger is worthless in that role, shoot Tonyan is nearly worthless in it too.

Deguara out solely benefits Dafney.

Sternberger released. If not picked up, will be interesting to see if the Packers put him on the PS.
