In line with the 'what have you done for me lately?' concept, he's 17 for 23 this year.
Thanks. Yeah that's a 74% make rate. Don't have the break down on his misses but it doesn't change the fact that football, like all pro sports, follows the "what have you done for me lately" concept.

And like the Packers, the Rams find themselves in playoff contention recently. Ironically, and like Maher, Crosby was good inside of the 50, and a crap shoot outside that range. Of course kicking at SoFi stadium will be a lot easier than Lambeau in December and January.

They cut him on Oct.24th, after he missed 3 kicks (2 FG's and 1 XP) against the Steelers in a one score loss. He is still a Free Agent.
Thanks Poker. Yeah with a marginal guy, one bad game can seal the deal. The Packers stood by Crosby through a few really rough games. And kickers are spacey. They get the yips and it takes a supportive cast to get out of it. I wish Crosby the best. I just hope he doesn't regret coming out of retirement.

He was always pretty clutch at FGs. I wonder if Gute and company wanted a younger leg for kickoffs?

Think was more cost savings
I think it was a combination of both, as well as just a good time to move on from a veteran K that was nearing the end of a pretty solid career.

As far as Carlson goes, I have been pretty happy with what he is doing. Yeah, the missed XP's suck, but the one he missed on Sunday was after a very high snap. Give the kid some time, he will be fine.

Then I assume they're still looking.

I think he was intentionally kicking high and short, daring the Panthers to return the ball. For the most part, the strategy worked. When asked to, he seems to be able to kick them into/out of the EZ.

Always possible. Just know that he's slightly under 50% on touchbacks for the season.
Good stat to know. What I would like to know is how the Packer kickoff unit compares this year, to last year's unit, in average starting position for the opponent. I think that gives us more information. Now granted, you have to take into consideration other factors. Such as the other 10 guys on special teams, as well as opponents, game conditions, etc.

There is no doubt in my mind that Carlson has the younger and stronger leg (over Crosby). Also, as you pointed out, he is cheaper. However, Crosby didn't miss as many XP's, so there is that.

Bottom line for me. I am pretty happy with Carlson and I loved Crosby. Moving on this year to a new, hopefully long term kicker, made a lot of sense to me and I think Carlson has filled those shoes pretty well for a rookie.

Doesn't matter, we lost anyway.
I agree with Poppa. That loss stung for sure, but it would have true been painful had Crosby sent us out into the night with a L.

Anyway, always liked Crosby. He was pretty much a sure thing from 50 or closer. I remember the Dallas playoff game where he had to hit a 50 yarder, twice because the Cowboys called a very late TO. I think it was January of 2017. I think that was my favorite Crosby kick(s).

Oh and I'm sure Capt would be spinning in Austria if he could see this. Capt can kiss rover's ***.

Didn't he nail like three 50+ in the last 2 minutes because the defense couldn't stop a Dallas drive for a tying one before the ones you mentioned?

Thx HE. I didn’t remember the Dallas comeback. I do remember Crosby having to kick the game winner. The last kick was drifting just wide left. Caught a breeze and came back just inside for the win.

Any win over Dallas is a good thing. It’s like a universal law.

Except for the time stamps and score, eerily similar to this past game.

I always liked Crosby too, right from when they drafted him. I wanted to get a #2 jersey, but it never happened. I was okay with letting him go though, because with the team starting over, the time seemed right. I wish him well. Maybe since he's in New York, he and Rodgers can go to a pub together.

I believe that game you're talking about was the one that started Skip Bayless calling him "Mason Crossbar". He was so bitter over Dallas getting knocked out of the playoffs. That was sweet.

Early in Crosby's career he missed some crucial kicks late in the game. In 2008 he missed both in Minnesota and Chicago that could have won games. In 2011 he missed a long one in KC in our only loss that year. In the game that got MM fired he missed a tying FG at the end against AZ. He had his fiasco in Detroit a number of years ago and of course in Cincinnati. But he has had his share of good streaks. MM became hesitant to let him kick long in his later years depending on the situation. Particularly, because our defense was so ineffective a miss from 52 meant points for the opposition.

Dallas losing is always great. Irritating Skip Bayliss at the same time is frosting!

Good summary, thx. For the most part, I remember him as being very accurate inside the 50, pretty good from 50 to 55, and a crap shoot over 55. He didn't have a big leg but he was accurate. Some disagree. The Packers won a lot of games while Crosby was around. Now that was largely due to having a great QB. Crosby contributed his share to those years as well.
