I didn’t see any threads on him recently so I ask leniency if I missed it. I think he deserved a thread of his own.

I’m totally good with moving on from him. I expected a mid to later Day 3 selection, but I also understand we have got to turn our focus into bettering our team and availability is a key ingredient in that endeavor.
FA is close enough to smell it and we don’t need distraction. We just freed up $17mil of Cap Room with this cut. While one part of me loved J’aire and his ability is undeniable, another part of me felt something was off with him. It was beyond just injury imo, just my gut feeling. it’s like he lost motivation to play for us and that’s a dangerous thing to entertain, no matter the reasoning.

$17Mil is a TON of Cap considering we were getting 50% productivity from current deal. I was getting discouraged with his scenario and it was bordering on distraction at this point. Lots of JA doors closing in our face and we’ve got a purse filled with cash, we don’t need to go desperation trying to salvage a 6th rounder etc. I agree let’s move on we’re very close to getting off this plateau and going elite. Let’s go get us a couple of Studs this FA period like we did with McKinney.

All that said it’s not personal at all. I wish him the best either way, he gave us some great memories.

I don't want to move on if his knees are all right. I actually like his personality. I'll never forget how he looked and acted when his name was called in the draft. Loved it

True that. His obstacle now is he’s got a $17Mil gift basket to release or trade him post June. Thats going to be difficult for JA to overcome imo. About the only way I’d see him here next year is if he reworks his contract with a substantial paycut or a rework with his $ directly tied to playing time.

Wait....what am I missing? This is not what happens in a trade, or cut right now. We save $6,389,647 to the 2025 cap in a trade or cut right now. I don't disagree with the concept of it may be time - I don't know the relationship part of it all with the team.

No doubt about it, if he does stay it will be with as reworked contract. I wouldn't object to that to be honest. My reasoning is that there's always a chance he'll come out of the gate in good shape at the start of the season and play through without any injuries.

Sometimes you have to roll the dice to make sure you don't shoot yourself in the foot. In this case, getting a solid CB in the draft that could eventually replace him could be an option if they keep him. I wouldn't settle for just dumping him. That would be a waste in my opinion.

I believe the cap hit would be around $19 mill if he's cut this year. If you hang onto him, and decide he's gone next year it would make the hit about $10 mill? I think that's close.

That larger Cap number is on a post Jun designation which is allowed on the first day of the start of the new year, which is next week. It would push much of his hit forward, but it absolutely frees up a bunch of room to maneuver after march 12.
It’s like Mitsubishi Triple diamond Tier. Zero payments for 12 months

I wondered if that's what you were thinking, I don't think they'll do a post- June cut, only way I think we do it is if Gute doesn't do any trading at all. I think he uses Jaire to recoup a touch of return lost in a trade for someone - or who knows maybe we get rid of Jaire and Jets get rid of Davanta for a 1 for 1 swap...

Not a fan of a post-June personally just because of the size of hit next year that otherwise won't happen if we just cut now.

We shall see though...sad thing is this thing may drag on for a while and could go beyond the draft even depending...

Yeah. My prediction is if we get some quantifiable draft capital we’d take the hit now. Either way his hit is already calculated into our available cap space. So you can imagine the financial flexibility of an additional $10Mil being shot into 2026.
Either way you pay for his remaining hit, but in a league where each season the hit diminishes the carry over (raised cap). The feeling $10mil now recognized in 2026 feels like $8.5mil etc. Yet you just got immediate spending power and if you understand how to utilize financials like we do, that’s not a bad thing.

It’s not like we’re paying interest on it it’s delayed CAP payment “zero interest”. Matter of fact I’d argue it’s the effect of being awarded an extra million or two for pushing it out.

I once had a lease that was .0001 factor. The Captive Financier allowed me to extend it. Not just the 12 months extension like the above example, but indefinitely. They took my Residual divided by my current payment and that result spread my debt across 52 remaining payments. I got 36+52 payments at .0001 factor. Or about 1/4 of 1% in a 7.5 year note. The cost funds for most Lenders is 10 times that. As you know. No Bank would loan $ at 0.24% for 7 years, right?

I got a 88 month loan at 0.24% money. Now you know why I always lease. Once I had clear title I sold it for about $9K. In 2012, Thats a 1/3 refund on all car payments I made (originally financed $28K Capital cost)

With his contract, there are no pressing contract concerns that would need to force the Packers hand. He has a work out bonus late May I believe, but he doesn't have anything in the contract that they need to move on from nor do they 'need' that 7M in cap space so they can slow play it as long as they want.

If they want him back there is a strategy where they hold until the waves of cash are gone and then try to get a reduced salary because it might be Jaire's best option instead of being cut. Or they hold up to the draft in case someone doesn't get what they want in the draft/FA and decides to spend draft capital to trade for him.

Only reason to cut him right now is to be nice to him or to rip the band aid off and move on.

In the end I don't see JA on the team, but I don't expect any finality to this maybe until the draft.

If that’s the case (little to no fees in the meantime) it’s probably Wise to hold our cards. Also there’s a small negative effect of cutting him today. It gives some roster clarity to whichever team signs him. If that new signing team happens to be our Division rival? there’s just no advantage to giving our opponent any leverage whatsoever in order to shape their roster.

I suppose if a non Division team came knocking with a Top 150 or better selection I’d at least be listening. I’d like to see him go AFC because after all, he is JA
