Hate to break it everyone but House didn't play well in the Packers system. How many big plays did he make? House and interception didn't belong in the same sentence. TT let him walk and didn't pay him the money because House was such a lack of an impact player. If House is being touted as the major "upgrade" to the Packers secondary this off season then expect another playoff wipe out. Mo Claiborne is injured a lot so how dependable could he be? At this point the only option to seriously upgrade the secondary is via a trade. The draft takes too long.

Davon House had a passer rating against under 80 in his first season with the jags. He struggled last year. But he is a year removed from being vastly superior to any of our cbs from last year

In 2014, his last as a Packer, House allowed 47% completion on 47 targets, 3 touchdowns, 1 INT, and 8 passes defended. He only allowed two plays of 20+ yards.

That isn't pro bowl caliber, but it's solid production. Injuries and inexperience led the Packers to the point of not even having competence on the field.

I agree with everyone who says that the Packers would benefit from a real #1 corner more than anything else. But I can't understand why it has to be that or nothing. Competent pro players would absolutely help.

When you have to go back to 2014 to find decent stats lol

That was the last time he played in the Packers' defense. Is it not relevant to talk about how he played in the scheme that he would play in if brought back? Or can we only discuss what happened while in a completely different system on a disastrous team?

Personally I dont see us signing any cornerback in FA, and Im not too keen on Claiborne unless he comes really cheap. Same goes for House. What happened to the CB from the Panthers we signed to the Practice Squad, Benwike? Was wondering how you guys felt about losing him.

Or let's actually discuss his poor play in Jacksonville instead of totally blowing it off. But no, instead we'll bring up stats from 3 seasons ago since they look better

Not true. In 2015 he allowed under an 80 passer rating against. That is also solid. He had a bad year last year in a zone defense. House isn't great but he would immediately be one of our top if not our top corner and he can actually play outside

We can discuss it as much as you like. The last two years is why I've prefaced basically every post by saying that there isn't a guarantee he goes back to being the player he was. I've just said that there's the possibility that scheme was the big factor and that he could rebound in this system, as he's still young.

But if you followed the thread, I posted his stats from GB because another poster said he was never good in Green Bay. Somehow his stats with the Packers seemed relevant to a conversation regarding his time as a Packer. How silly of me.

House never really played as our no.1 corner. I want Claiborne over house. Claiborne is the better athlete too. The knock on Claiborne is he is lazy but he really turned it around last season.

I like him on a short term deal and think he is our best shot to replace Shields in 2017 at this point.

I say go after Butler from NE...if nothing else it would cost NE a pile to keep him.

He signed elsewhere.

Bene' Benwikere, 3 year veteran. Signed with the Bengals and has been as bad if not worse than what the Packers already have.

Packers have enough bodies at CB, what they need is talent beyond "bad, worse, mediocre and "developing". TT and the coaches must have a ton of confidence that the current groups performance in 2016 was just an anomaly, that or they plan on pulling a few rabbits out of their arses between now and opening day.

Here's the problem. It would also cost our 1st round pick. I like Butler but shipping a 1st out just for the right to give a guy a huge pay isn't a good idea to me.

Would've been better served simply to splurge on Gilmore or Bouye right out of the gate and kept the pick if they decide to go after Butler

Especially considering that Belichick's use and coaching of players is better than anyone. Oftentimes Patriots look better in New England than what they actually are because they're deployed in exactly the right way to fit their skillset. Then they go elsewhere and flop or at least regress. I would definitely not trade a first for the right to pay Butler a huge deal.

Too late for Gilmore or Bouye. Randall is a first round pick and has been horrible. Butler is a top ten CB by all accounts and worth a first rounder.

It's nonsense to say that a capable player won't help just because they aren't a "#1." By your logic, we shouldn't sign anyone, Claiborne or otherwise. Not a #1, therefore won't help right?

House has played well in this system, is young, and has always been talented. Claiborne had like 7 good games last year in a system dissimilar to the Packers' and is notoriously fragile. I fail to see the huge discrepancy between the two guys. Other than maybe what your PFF grades said about 2016. But that's reductive because it fails to factor scheme and is heavily colored by a recency bias.

Thompson should have signed a #1 cornerback. Unfortunately the pickings are currently extremely thin at the position but there are still better options available than House.

While House played at a decent level during his last season with the Packers he was fourth on the depth chart that year hardly covering opposing top receivers. It's a terrible idea to bring him back based on it expecting him to be capable of filling the Packers need for a veteran leader at the position.

The Packers would receive a shutdown cornerback immediately upgrading the secondary instead of having to develop another draft pick for years whike having no guarantee that prospect will ever turn into a decent player.

In addition the team has enough cap space to sign Butler to a lucrative long term contract. I would be all in favor of trading for him.

While I like the idea of trading for Butler I think we all know that is not going to happen. I don't even think I can bring myself to dream about trading a 1st rounder for a good starting cb because there is no way I see TT doing that. Although I'm not a big fan of him Claiborne if he went through a serious interview process and a serious bath to wash all the cowboy off of him could be an interesting signing.. while I'm not saying Joe Whitt is the greatest developer I do think he is a great coach and if he liked him coming out and he interviews like someone who wants to play football I would be very intrigued the guy has all the physical tools. And showed some sparks last year. For a cheap 1 year deal I would be in.
