Actually, a lot of backup QB's do not hold anymore. It is usually the punter. That is old school.
Somehow I'm sure that's not true

Bears cut Desmond Trufant. I havent followed him. Is he still good? he was big couple years ago but thats all I know. Also his das died recently and he wasnt there in camp so the Bears cut him. Kind of a **** move
A simple search in the interwebs says otherwise.Somehow I'm sure that's not true

"In today's NFL, most teams use their punter as a holder. New England Patriots' head coach Bill Belichick explained that punters are generally holders for the reason that punters and kickers usually have more time together to game plan, watch film, and are able to have more reps during practice than a player who has to play another position."
If it is a trick play then the punter will practice it enough to be efficient at it. They usually only have one read anyway and if that is a bust they chuck it out of bounds. The fake extra point went away when they moved the extra point back, so if you are going for it teams just go for two. There's really no need for a third QB anymore, especially with the practice squads. They need that roster spot for other positions. The one thing of it all is that I'm not sure your hang up on Benkert.Hmm ok, well I stand corrected for that one. But I still would have Benkert hold that ball and have a high likelihood of completing fake FGs

Are we completely positive we are not already at 53 on the roster?
Yeah, I just can't get onboard with that. Summers plays special teams and contributes that way. Lancaster contributes in the DT rotations (unfortunately). Benkert wouldn't even hold a clipboard. He would merely take up a roster spot for no reason. Hence the shift to only keeping two QB's. I'm not big on Summers or Lancaster either, but they contribute at least.Because he trumps Summers and Lancaster in what he brings

Very minimally. Benkert over Lancaster, easy money
I just think we are going to have to disagree @PackerfaninCarolina. I don't think Benkert is even an NFL caliber player. Probably the last we have heard of him beyond practice squad.Very minimally. Benkert over Lancaster, easy money
Yes we still do.Did you guys see Hollman got cut from the Texans? Do we still get their draft pick for him?
Sweet! What in the world are the Texans doing? Wouldn't it be ironic if the Packers signed him to their practice squad. Stole a draft pick from them.Yes we still do.
Because he won the Golden Finger award as the best holder in the league! How do you know it'll be punter? Does he have any experience in it?
I would have kept Uphoff, Gaines or Ento before Benkert really in this scenario.

Is it possible two guys have been put on IR we aren't aware of yet?Seriously...how in sam hell are we setting here an hour past deadline and still no word on final cut....
Possible sure, but someone in the big Packer insiders would have known you would think. Is it possible two guys have been put on IR we aren't aware of yet?
