Wow, what a different looking team last night!

Anyone who caught the Badgers square up against Marquette at the Fieldhouse last night in an exhibition, might have checked their audio to see if they were hearing the players names correct. Well, you were. With graduation and TP losses, this is almost a whole new team that Kelly is coaching.

Carter Booth is the only player that has been a Badger for more than a season. With Charlie (Fuerbringer) and Lola (Schumacher) as the only other 2 players on the roster, that have seen a fair amount of playing time (1 season each) with the Badgers.

Una Vajagic is a red-shirt freshman, that was rehabbing a knee last season and never saw action. Tosia Serafinowska, Morgan Wie, Maile Chan and Trinity Shadd-Ceres saw a bit of action at the beginning of last season and then weren't seen playing again. Otherwise, the rest of the team is new to the Badgers.

The newcomers through the Transfer Portal:

- Mimi Colyer (TP from Oregon)
- Grace Egan (TP from OSU)
- Grace Lopez (TP from U of Miami)

Lopez injured her knee and appears that she will redshirt this season.

The New Freshman class is also impressive. Some are playing this Spring and some are still finishing their Senior year in H.S. and won't play until the fall:

- Madison Quest
- Kristen Simon
- Addison Horner
- Natalie Wardlow

Mimi Colyer, Grace Egan and Maddison Quest really jumped out at me last night. Colyer and Egan were both really good at their previous schools, but man, Maddy Quest, she's going to be great by the time she finisher her college career.

Kelly played everyone last night and even with that, for the most part, they all played pretty well as a team. Serving looks better and the biggest change for me, this looks like a much more athletic group. Hard to replace Franklin, but Colyer is going to come very close to being a lot like her.

Love this team already!

Additionally: Forgot to add. When the broadcast started, I thought I was seeing Anna Smrek warming up in the background. Turns out it was Tosia Serafinowska. I should have known it wasn't Smrek, Tosia is "only 6' 4", Smrek is 6' 9".

Thanks for the analysis. I didn't get a chance to watch it. Didn't know it was available. It sounds like we're going to go into the new season with a new look but lots of firepower. Maybe we give away a little height but gain a little more speed and mobility. That's really what beat us last year. Teams that were more athletic could beat us off the blocks.

I honestly expected to see a lot of unorganized play and mistakes by the Badgers. But this group, even with a lot of people rotating in and out were pretty impressive. Even the 2 commentators kept saying how impressed and amazed they were that the Badgers looked this good during "Spring Ball". Without knocking the graduating group from 2024, there just seems to be better athletes wearing red and white. A ton of hustle and execution. Colyer, Eagan and Quest hit some real hard lasers last night.

Colyer was interviewed after and she had nothing but praise for her teammates and coaches.

It's going to be a fun team to watch. With the way the Transfer Portal is still being lit up in Football, it wouldn't shock me to see a top player realize what is happening at Wisconsin and try to join in on it.

I'm already excited for the start of the season. Kelly and his staff are amazing. They seem to know exactly what's needed to make the team better. The Badgers may become the most productive team through the portal constantly the way it's going. It's great building home grown talent but quite frankly, it looks like a lot of kids are going to be jumping ship in the future to gain playing time elsewhere, so grooming a freshman isn't the same as putting a freshman on the floor and giving them playing time from the start. I'm anxious to see where it goes this year.

I'm also holding on to some high hopes for the women's basketball program as well. They may have lost their stars through the poral with a coaching change but it might be all for the better. A new coach with a new approach, and with any luck, a good handle on portal recruiting.

Now there's a program that has been at or near the bottom for a long time. They haven't had an above .500 record since the 2010 season. It would be nice to see them find success.

I don't know where it will end up, but I like the energy I'm seeing surrounding women's basketball at this point. I think it's a shame that the Badgers haven't pushed the envelope with all their successful women's programs to give them even more exposure. They're really pretty high in the hierarchy of sports based on combined teams.

At this point, I think McIntosh is taking them to the next level. I think Barry had taken them as far as he could. It was going to take someone versed in the 21st century to make the next move.

I didn't watch the game today between the Canadian & US women in hockey. I wish I did. It was a scorcher from what I've heard. Lots of Badgers out there playing on both sides. Enough to make a person smile. The US coming out on top is something to smile about.

The talent being developed through Madison is awesome.

Was a great game to watch. Lots of talent on both sides of the ice and as you noted lots of current or former Badgers on both teams, USA had 9 Badgers, Canada 6.

This Tournament started in 1990 and has occurred 24 times since. Here's a fun fact, the American team has played in EVERY one of the 24 final games, taking home the Gold on 11 of those occasions. Canada is no slouch either, they have made it to every final game, except 1, winning 13 gold medals in the process. If you do the math, you will notice that Canada and the US are the only 2 teams to ever win the tournament.

No doubt about it, hockey rules in Canada and the US, as far as numbers competing, and levels of competition, therefore making them more of a breeding ground for hockey player. It's a lot like it was for basketball over the years, with the US dominating the sport, but that's slowly began changing, and a lot of countries have upped their participation at grass roots level and are now competitive.
