Explain to me how 55 punt returns and 31 kickoff returns in college can be
completely dismissed as not applicable to an NFL special teams spot. I'll admit he only scored once. Plus I recall him on punt returns vs Arizona after Hyde and Cobb went out.

Depends on how you want to defined "completely". I'd say Abbrederis is about as close to completely dismissible on special teams as you can get.
He's at best the 3rd. string KO returner behind Montgomery and Janis, depending on what order you choose to put those two players. Throw Davis into the mix who might push him down to 4th. string.
He might be the 3rd. or 4th. string punt returner behind Hyde, Cobb and Montgomery, depending on whether the Packers shelve Cobb permanently for punt duty; he's a costly investment who's suffered some injuries of late. Montgomery returned 12 punts for a 19.8 average and 2 TDs his senior season, and Zook had some positive things to say about his punt potential early last season, though I might not necessarily share he enthusiasm.

Throw Davis into the punt return mix as well; he could push Abbrederis down to the 5th. best option.
This is a team willing to go 2.5 deep at safety and 3 deep at ILB down to the serviceable level. I don't think having a 3rd. or 4th. of 5th. option at the returner positions is a consideration in the "keep or go" determination. And if you think Davis will make the roster, he could serve in an emergency even if he's unimpressive doing it in preseason.
