Commercial hunting of deer in the 30's supposedly brought the population down to about 300,000 deer in the US. Since then the numbers are now somewhere around 30 million. I believe WI has to harvest about 200,000 a year just to maintain them from over population. I used to hate being in the woods hunting when I knew FIB's were in the area. They used to come up from Chicago, and there is nothing worse than someone who only shoots once a year. Shooting at sounds......shadows......cows.So you would find it preferable to let the deer population explode, resulting in even further competition for an already scarce winter food supply, thereby causing thousands of deer to die a slow miserable death from starvation?
