Thats one of the reasons I’m also optimistic. Our blocking in the Run game has been good. That helps any RB to see the field more by default. Marshawn immediately busted a nice 15+ around the left edge but I think if I recall it was erased by penalty? Anyway our blocking will help his cause once he’s back.
I've noticed that our RBs are doing a decent job of blocking. You know they're going to be beat down by a guy outweighing them by 50#, and having 6" of height on them, but they have pretty much stayed in there and slowed them down. Can't expect much more to be honest.

I'm looking forward to Lynch hitting the field, but right now, I don't think we're getting hurt by either of our two back ups to Jacobs. They've done a respectable job.

I don't remember when the last time was the Packers could point at 4 RBs and say that all of them are quality backs.

It’s merely projection, but Marshawn has the ability to be a strong RB2. Once he gets in the open field he becomes a problem. He’s short and compact with exceptional burst and 4.4’s long speed. His added benefit was in a smaller sample he was a grade A receiver. He punished teams in space and the Packers need to use him in the short passing game and let him use his burst and elite ability to break tackles. He needs some refinement in Blocking and being patient inside the Tackles, but he’s very talented with a 7+ yard Rushing average for USC in 2023

The one thing he needs to do is run lower. He is a little too upright. You can get away with that in college, but in the NFL, they'll knock you down. It's not going to be a problem for him, it's just a matter of getting him to work on it in practice, and it will come.

Predraft Marshawn fell more squarely in Round 4 by most scouting accounts. In that best 6-8 RB’s area. The Packers using their first of two 3rd Round selections speaks to the fact they felt Lloyd was undervalued by consensus ratings pre draft. Brian said so himself. When Gutey traded Rasul he claimed that with a 80-something overall draft selections they were often eyeballing a top 50 area value player in our draft board. Based on his own statements we can reasonably deduce that if we trust Brian, we just drafted at least a guy boarded in the 60’s overall worst case. If they are correct Marshawn is going to be a really good complement to Jacobs in fairly short order. If not? Imo We would’ve never wasted a top 88 selection at a position that’s largely been devalued in recent history.

I do think Marshawn will need some time to acclimate. His biggest concern is holding onto the ball so that must be addressed also. The other concern is his injury history. He recovered from an ACL in 2020. In 2024 he’s been injured 3 times. Once to start camp, once to start preseason and once to start regular season against the Colts. The culmination of overlapping injuries landed him in IR. I think we had the luxury to do that with Wilson being a pleasant surprise early on.

All this said. It’s highly likely this high ankle sprain is temporary and they want to be careful we don’t compound his injuries. I suspect he’ll be back in the next 2-3 games at latest and gradually ramped up for the last 6 or 7 games. I don’t be expect immediate results game 1. I do think we’ll see some explosive plays down the last 4-5 games if he’s out there healthy.
High ankle sprains, for some reason I don't understand, take a long time to heal. My guess is that more muscles are involved along with the many tendons and ligaments in the ankles and feet that get strained or sprained.

If he plays this year will depend on how healthy Jacobs and Wilson stay. That's a good 1-2 punch in the backfield. Lloyd might have to wait until next year. I'd rather he was completely healed before stepping onto, Lambeau or Soldier Field in winter. That's an excess of caution, but again, their current run game is very good.

I'd still like to see him. He looks like an intriguing back.

Agreed and running lower better protects the ball. Well I think it does. It's certainly the best way to get past the down linemen and into the secondary.

You're right. It does help to protect the ball. It does eliminate those arm tackles by being low. They have to get lower and wrap to stop a guy.

We need McCarthy to come harp on them about Pad Level! That guy was always talking pad level. You could ask him what he had for lunch and he’d spin it into a conversation about it.

Certainly we all want him healed up before playing meaningful snaps. We logically should get a better feel in Marshawn’s status in the next several weeks. These newer protocols force teams to either activate a player if they go IR or just end their season. Certainly won’t waste a roster spot across a season.

I still believe his injuries are not season ending or we would’ve already heard that.
Keep in mind the way it happened. It was a tissue injury (leg beginning of Camp) then 30 days later a joint injury (hip beginning of PS) then 30 days later that high ankle (Colts game) He had 3 separate injuries inside 2 months and when they layer like that? Just wise to give him extra time to address all 2 or 3 that are bothering him. Highly unlikely a High Ankle sprain by itself is season ending. If it was that bad he’d have had surgery and been in season ending IR. Until we get more info it’s anyone’s guess. My guess based on tracking him a little is they’ll ramp him up next week or the week after in practice and limit his snaps for a few games afterwards to not jeopardize his season. Meaning he’s playing inside a month area.

As you inferred we have the luxury of what’s probably a RB3 playing close to RB2 level. That’s helped give him plenty of time to heal up properly. Thank You Emmanuel.

I either forgot or just didn't know he had multiple injuries. And yeah, if his injuries were serious, he'd be on season-ending IR and he's not. So that tells me the Drs have said he could recover and be able to to play. And RB is a tough position when it comes to injuries (and longevity), so it's probably best to at least have him ready.

This is a good sign. It’s the first we’ve heard a peep about Lloyd in weeks. I really think he could be a guy if ramped up could help us down the stretch

3rd Round Jinx?

I was kind of excited to hear last week that there was a good chance Lloyd would be back and healthy after the bye week. Well, he's "back", but is he healthy? The Wed. injury report said he wasn't, that he now had a hamstring issue. Then Matt said yesterday morning that Lloyd had tests done yesterday and he doesn't have hamstring issues. What is it?

Honestly, at this point, the Packers have Jacobs, Wilson and Brooks. I'd stick with those 3 and IR Lloyd for the remainder of the season. You don't need 4 RB's taking up roster spots. Of course they could cut Brooks and try to resign him to the PS, but halfway into the season, colder, wetter weather, is it worth throwing a rookie RB into the mix?

Everything will depend on his health. But he is back practicing I am reading. So it will all depend on how he does in games. He probably has that extra gear to get to top speed. I'm anxious to see how we use him and how he does.

We’re very fortunate to be in position to not need him. We’ve got I think 2+ more weeks before activating him, so I think you give him time. It would be highly unusual to carry 4 RB’s, I’d use the designation to keep him on that back burner at minimum 1 more week. Thats coming from me who’s a big advocate of his ability.
Nothing wrong with keeping a good RB fresh until that last 6-7 games or so
