I'm not feeling confident either way. We've seen how good even a completely mediocre at best QB can look against this defense at times. We've also seen they can get some turnovers too and shut some things down. Our offense has been roaring, but it wasn't so long ago I can remember they weren't.

I think our offense will keep going. I'm not ignoring that the Giants have a good defense or that they don't still have Steve Spagnulo as a defensive coordinator, but I think we've faced some pretty stout defenses lately with some pretty good results. If we're clicking, i don't care who they put out there on defense, we're scoring points. and as it should be this time of year, if you want to win, your strengths better produce.

Same with defense. I know saying we're "banged up" in the 2ndary is an understatement, but I expect the Dom to surprise us a little bit with what he has. We'll see if it's enough. If the offense is doing it's part, I think it will be.

Steve Spagnulo is their current defensive coordinator.

It's doubtful he sees meaningful snaps. It's a near certainty he has no positive effect , but could have a negative one.
At least if he gets in and makes a mistake it'll be at 4.3_ speed! Our current 4.5+ guys are getting slammed for playing too far off/behind the receivers... at least Waters has a chance to stick with or recover.

As it is we'll have at least 3 safeties on the field at all times (Burnett, Dix, Hyde, and/or Brice), Waters is emergency guy if another few go down.

My fat thumbs must have hit something funny, because I meant to point out that Spagnulo has given this offense trouble with a good defense in Lambeau before and he's still there.

How about Monty? He's already shown he can be a receiver and a running back. Why not a cornerback, too?

Hey DarkHelmet imagine my surprise at seeing the jet-powered RDC on THIS forum. (I'm a NY Central guy from way back)

Anyway this is sure to be a good game Sunday guys.

Is Dom Capers coaching for his job in this game? I've gotta think that if the D stinks it up and we lose....well bye. Than again...I highly doubt it

Every train should have a jet-powered locomotive.

Looking forward to a great game. The old teams are the best teams.

I think if they let him go, it's because they already made up their mind on him regardless of the outcome. I'm sure they'd not base this decision on one game given the health status of so many players

They couldn't of made up their mind though. If the Packers win the remaining games in shootouts ( Including SB) with the D being awful, he will be back. Coaches don't get fired from SB teams. Than again l don't wanna see the D play lights out in a losing effort Sunday...making the front office believe something is there that isn't.

All in all, every team has injuries. Enough excuses. Realistically we know they will get lit up again. Time to move on from big money, low impact players like Matthews and Peppers. Yes I'm calling out Clay. Anybody else tired of him?

I don't think so.

I would like a change but I doubt it happens unless they win the SB and he retires..

But there is always the off chance something happens and they let him go.

Last meeting in Lambeau, early this season, we were clearly the better team. We nearly doubled the Giants in yardage and time of possession. Manning overthrew 1 easy TD.. but we threw 2 INT. The score didn't reflect how bad we beat them. Looking at the stats the score should've been 33-16 GB.
Eddie Lacey had some nice spin moves and good blocking but IMO Monty would've also exploited those same holes (or better) RIP played smash mouth FB looking like Super Kuhn+
Janoris had 2 Aaron INT.. but after that their was a sharp drop in the Giants D pass coverage and we exploited it.
This could be a narrow Giants victory if we get shredded in the D secondary due to injuries.. but more likely if we see the same team as last week? GB wins by 2 TDs. GB 33 Giants 23

P.S. If Cobb is back this would be big as he was a mismatch for them

I just meant, this game isn't going to make or break him and his future with this team. I don't think he's going anywhere anyway, but I don't think they'd use this game as their deciding moment. And yes every team has injuries. Zero teams are needing to call up converted WRs to play DB in a playoff game besides Green Bay because no team has taken a hit like that at one position and kept themselves in it.

I know injuries can't be an excuse, but let's not act like they aren't significant either

This is a damning statistic:

"Fun stat as Manning goes for his third Super Bowl title: He has as many playoff victories at Lambeau Field as Aaron Rodgers."

People say can't use injuries as excuse as you mention and I tend to agree..

But let's flip this..

We have Jordy and adams out along with Rodgers..

Wouldn't that be an excuse? I know the ones missing on the Def isn't that horrible, but it's same principle. At some point injuries do have an impact

At a certain point injuries are absolutely an excuse. It depends on position of course but one missing starter at QB is a great excuse for losing. You think the Raiders honestly think they'll be as good without Carr? Corners are another area in today's NFL that you can only take so many injuries. You go into a game missing multiple corners and that becomes a very good excuse. I would also list tackles and dlinemen as positions that can't take many hits. Interior oline, RB and ILB can take more hits because they can be compensated for more easily.

And it's not the level of the players that are missing on defense, it's just the sheer quantity at ONE position. I mean, the Packers are going to be playing against Odell freakin' Beckham minus Shields, Goodson, Rollins and perhaps Randall. That's potentially four of the five best corners on the team not playing. I'm sorry, having to start your sixth best corner (seventh too, if the defense has to play nickel) is an excuse. If the injuries were more spread out amongst positions then the team would be able to compensate.

Yeah, every team is missing four of their top five players at ONE position; a position, btw, that commonly requires THREE guys to be playing at the same time. The Denver Broncos defense would be a pushover if you took Talib, Harris...ya'know what? The Broncos only have four corners on their roster, I can't find any more guys to remove! There is not a team in the NFL that can field a decent defense if that team is being forced to start their sixth and seventh (in nickel) options at corner.

And there will still be 3 or 4 in chat Sunday complaining to the all mighty that Dom. Sucks.

It's not just this year though. It's a culmination of reoccurring years the defense is bad.

Fans need to vent. It's far easier, and more comforting, to believe that simply replacing one coach can fix a team's problems. Actually admitting that personnel is a problem means facing the reality that everything can't be fixed in five minutes.

Except for the year the defense lead the Packers to a Super Bowl, or 2012 when the defense was good, or just last year when the defense was the only reason the Packers actually made the playoffs. There have only been two seasons since 2010 when the defense was actually BAD; 2011 and 2013.
